Leaving a newborn in a shopping bag.

It's currently 2 degrees in my area. Last night it was 0-1 max. There are a dozen places you could potentially leave a tiny baby and someone chose to place him/her outside in a shopping bag.

The person who did this (no idea if it was mum, dad or someone else) should be charged. With what, I don't know. Attempted murder? I mean the baby was found by a dog walker, completely chance.

I'm sure the apologists will be out in force - whoever left the baby must be in distress, they need help etc. That may be true. But I cannot get my head around this.

Came to see if this had been bumped. I wonder what sort of circumstance could cause that three times?

Modern day slavery? Cult follower?

It's very odd that healthcare providers have not been alerted to a very pregnant woman who then suddenly doesn't have a baby.

Exactly what I'm thinking. I have no sympathy nor understanding for the mother to be honest.

Is it really that hard to imagine the awful scenario someone could be trapped in and not feel able to protect a baby in? If this mother was safe and well and free she'd likely have accessed maternity services or an abortion. Her situation must be dire to have to go through the repeated trauma of carrying a baby safely through pregnancy to then have to abandon them and hope for the best.

We only got abortion provision in the area I live relatively recently. There were a number of women who killed their babies before that happened. That's not the case here, all babies were left where they were likely to be found quickly.

Even if the mother has been trafficked and abused without being given access to money/internet/the outside? It is possible that it wasn't her who had abandoned the babies, but whoever is controlling her.

Yes, actually this is the only scenario when I would feel for her. I didn't really think about it at first because of how angry the article made me, so apologies for a heated comment. I should have said that I have no sympathy nor understanding for whoever was the one abandoning those babies.

OP, your first post says who ever abandoned the Anya should be charged, your most recent post says you hope the parents of the babies received help. That a a massive u- turn. Do you now realise not everything is black and white, and it's quite possible the mother is actually a victim?

Most women aren't walking around much an hour after birth, let alone trotting down to the local park. I very much doubt any one ever abandoned a baby lightly, let alone three.
