Bath or shower debate

pastypirate · 17/01/2024 20:09

Can you settle a debate? We are refurbing a bathroom in a holiday let. Dp thinks it should be bath with shower over. I think walk in shower all the way. Agent suggests double shower!!!
It's a dinky cottage.

Bath with shower. I wouldn’t book anywhere without a bath.

ArcticBells · 17/01/2024 20:53

Hate showering. Bath night and morning for me

mondaytosunday · 17/01/2024 21:01

Bath with shower. No question. I wouldn't rent a place without a bath.

@pastypirate put a hot tub on the patio. they can relax there. then they can rest and have a cool refreshing shower in the double shower base after their rest. best of both worlds then.

XmaswasbadNYisworse · 17/01/2024 21:01

Definitely a bath.

I'm on holiday, I have time I don't usually have at home, I like to relax in the bath late in the evening.

Shower for practicalities, but definitely bath for relaxation, so you want both.
And also, as pp said, young children usually get bathed not showered, if that's your target market.

Chickydoo · 17/01/2024 21:35

Although I love a bath at home, the thought of using a bath in a holiday let gives me the ick. I just don't want to plant my naked body in a bath where naked strangers have been.
I know it's odd, a shower all the way for me.

Tinkerbyebye · 17/01/2024 21:35

Shower

ronoi · 17/01/2024 21:45

@Frasers

What? Why would you not book somewhere if they have a bath, do you have a phobia?

No babe, a disability.

OpalOrchid · 17/01/2024 21:48

I'm not fussed about baths. I'd much rather have a walk in shower.

ConciseQueen · 17/01/2024 21:49

Bath, definitely.

We do lots of walking about on our holidays and I love coming back to where we are staying and soak in the bath.

Shower-only bathrooms are fine for business travel but not holidays.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 17/01/2024 21:55

Walk in shower. I probably wouldn’t book if there was only a shower over the bath… you can’t please everyone!

I love a bath. I’d never use a hot tub, especially one outside on a patio in the UK

rainbowsparkle28 · 17/01/2024 22:03

Bath with shower, I imagine people will want the chance to have a nice warm soak whilst relaxing on holiday!

It is NOT the best of both worlds. I adore a bath. You couldn't pay me to get in a hot tub.

I've spent ages trawling sites for holiday cottages without hot tubs.

Snugglemonkey · 17/01/2024 23:18

As pp have said, you really need to think of the target market. As a family with small children, we will not book without a bath. Though also when I went away pre children, I mostly did walking holidays in the UK and I still wanted a bath. Where is the let? Who is likely to stay there?

pastypirate · 17/01/2024 23:52

So......it's literally a one bed cottage that will be adults only (no room for kids). I'm considering allowing dogs but not yet decided.
It's in a small town with loads of antique shops very close to the coast. Agent seems to think it will be couples plus older couples and has suggested a brand of bed that can be split into two singles with older couples in mind.

My thoughts are I just want to tile up to the ceiling and get a new bathroom suite in whilst it's empty so I don't have any kind of emotional allegiances to a bath or a shower!

House is on the flat in the town centre with off road parking but it does have somewhat narrow stairs. As much as I would like it to be, it's not suitable nor adaptable to a wheelchair user nor anyone with moderate mobility issues.

Garden wouldn't fit a hot tub thank god!

Shower. I hate showers over baths and won't book anywhere that has that.

Now I am 70 I struggle to get in and out of the bath but have always hated showers over baths. In fact hate baths totally. Waste of time and water

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 18/01/2024 10:58

Bath and shower. DP showers and I (with mobility) issues need a bath to soothe my joints.

EmailAddress · 18/01/2024 11:02

Shower for a one bed at adults. I rule out anything without a walk in shower. Don’t get those beds that split. They’re horrible. You have to physically move them, have two sets of bedding and duvets and when they are together there’s a horrible gap/ridge down the middle which a couple won’t want.

MissusKay · 18/01/2024 11:07

Shower

ToothFairy2023 · 18/01/2024 11:40

In that case I’d go shower and have a king or sk bed if room allows not those joined together singles.

DilemmaDelilah · 18/01/2024 11:51

For me personally, a shower because I am not able to climb in and out of a bath to have a shower.
For people with young children, a bath.
If you have a 1 bedroom cottage then put in just a shower. If 2 beds or more probably the bath with shower over. However I wouldn't rent somewhere where I had to climb in and out of the bath to have a shower.

LaurieStrode · 18/01/2024 11:54

Shower over bath.

LaurieStrode · 18/01/2024 11:55

Sometimes it's nice to soak one's feet or rinse out items of clothing or whatever in a bathtub. They aren't just for full-on bathing.

Marblessolveeverything · 18/01/2024 12:01

Given your update, shower.

I am a fit 48 year old I hate having to step in and out of bath for a shower.
Walk in shower allows for a small stool to be used if mobility issues.
