Too excited to eat

DD (7) told me she only eats a little of her lunch at school because she is too excited and wants to go and play. This broke my heart. DD is very good about being self aware or simply things that will be beneficial for her. Ex. We talk about how she feels after a shower vs before, how certain foods keep her full longer than others etc etc. She is in activities outside of school where she gets interaction with other children. My thought is speaking to the teacher? Any other thoughts on how to navigate this?

Clean eating to my 4 year old, means a happy meal in the bath…..
To my (very ND) 14 year old, it means “god mums on another diet”
Eating when you’re hungry isn’t a bad thing. I eat last nights dinner for breakfast (cold usually), yoghurts at 4am, 2 day old curry for lunch. I won’t be told when to eat because someone decided on breakfast lunch dinner etc…….
The 4 year old eats his lunch at school as he has to. He knows that is when everyone else eats. At weekends I feed him when he says he’s hungry.
The OPs little one is just learning her own mind (and tummy). If she was hungry she’d sit and eat…. Nobody comes between a woman and their food when they are hungry!!

Love the contrast! 😄

DD has brought to my attention that her dad feeds her fast food on weekends she is with him. She says "If I have to eat McDonald's one more time I'm going to be sick"! 😆 so I send a few meals with her for the weekend.

Yeah, mine aren’t fans of too much “junk”. Kids (and us I guess) go through phases. Mine range from almost 24 down to 4 and hand on heart none of them have been the same food wise. But the one thing they share is that they will absolutely eat when they are hungry…
She will soon learn that playtime isn’t going anywhere and neither is her lunch. I agree as well with another poster who said it’s good she wants to go and play. Means she’s enjoying the whole social side of school. I’d be more concerned if she was moaning to teachers she was hungry after lunch, or telling you she wasn’t allowed to finish it.
Wait till she’s 14 and literally eating anything that comes close enough to her mouth. Bottomless pits teenagers 😂😂😂

You had a bit of a hard time here but i understand your sentiments OP - most basic thing is to feel our kids have eaten well - I mean, it’s literally the first thing my parents ask me as a 40 year old - “what have you eaten today”!! don’t feel bad for caring.

Thank you so much for this insight, reminder but also reminding me of what to look forward to! So true! I am all for going at the child's pace but clearly coming on a bit strong in this area! 😊

Omg! Don't parents do this! 🤭 Thank you for this light hearted reassurance! 🥰 I truly appreciate it!

Nooooo you aren’t. You’re a worried mama, that’s never bad. It’s just cute she wants to play and really nice to read 💐

My DD is like this but tbh I don’t mind, she isn’t exactly wasting away! I wouldn’t loose sleep over it, I think it’s fairly normal.
