She is 15 months, found an old phone while sorting out draws gave it her to keep her amused while she was in her cot and kicking off, well she has done this to it... it did have a couple of cracks in it to begin with so don't think it would've been hard to break anyway but I'm worried she swallowed glass... she is fine in herself and it isn't like she doesn't eat everything anyway but obviously she hasn't eaten a phone before !
I have tried to rinse her mouth out the best I could
I don't have to take her to get checked do i for this ??

Check whether minor injuries will treat under 5s. Ours won't and refer you to children's A&E instead

NeverDropYourMooncup · 15/01/2024 17:01

I've dealt with kids who have needed stitches for phone glass (including with more expensive protectors). It turns into little needle like shards, incredibly sharp ones.

So A&E.

Hope she's ok. DC managed to bite into a glass when a toddler and cracked that. Fortunately I was holding it (giving a drink at the time) and got it straight of of their mouth before anything actually broke off.

Yes we are at the hospital. I won't be commenting on this thread anymore because i already feel bad enough without the Mumsnet perfect parents jumping on me. I do hope whoever gets a crack on their phone screen replaces it straight away and never lets their child play with it for 2 mins. A smooth screen with cracks under the screen didn't seem like an immediate danger to be quite honest.
Most likely she hasn't swallowed any but I'm here anyway doing the right thing

Op people aren’t acting like ‘perfect parents’ for not allowing their child to play with a broken object containing cracked glass ‘just for 2 minutes’, or for not seeking medical attention after they’ve swallowed it. It was a bad error of judgement. I hope you’re seen quickly and your dd is ok x

Hey I have an 18 month old and hindsight is a wonderful thing in reality the phone probably wasn't the best idea but we don't always think things through properly when we just need them to occupy themselves for five minutes!

How is baby doing?

No it probably wasn't but I'm glad you understand the struggle. Home now, x ray done and no glass there. Lesson learnt definitely

Why would you give your baby a phone with a broken screen to placate them? Play with them? So dangerous.

Shf · 15/01/2024 20:20

That’s good!

If I had to list the things that have happened with my DC which in hindsight could have been prevented…

Think we've been over this part enough now. Sometimes you need to do something without them screaming to be picked up. This was one of those times. As I've said, lesson learnt. Thanks

I'm sorry you are getting some judgemental nonsense on here op. You live and learn. Sometimes these things don't occur to you. As I already posted my son ate some of a glass fruit bowl when he was one. It hadn't occurred to me that I'd left him within reach of this cut glass fruit bowl just sat on the coffee table... it was stupid yes but parents make these mistakes sometimes especially with your first child. I can't believe people are being so harsh.
My son is nearly 9 now by the way and absolutely fine. We live and learn.

BrokeTheToddlersHeart · 16/01/2024 05:53

Ah no harm done then.
Chalk it up as a story to tell when baby is eighteen and move on.
Take care OP.
It's bloody hard in toddler land x
