Thinking of booking to see this. If anyone has been, I’d appreciate your opinions.

OP posts:

I went with a big group - ages ranged from 5 to 65, everyone loved it. It was fab.

It was Samantha Barks when I went early December I'm sure . I didn't get a programme, so maybe I'm wrong but it looked like her!

She went in August and gave birth in October so it can’t have been SB you saw. Unless it was a Keeping in Touch Day, ha ha!

DaisyDreaming · 14/01/2024 15:03

I really enjoyed it, I don’t think it’s aimed at little kids which some people think it will be!

It's worth seeing for the special effects. They're brilliant!

I went with my mum and daughter for daughters 5th birthday. Daughter absolutely loved it! We got a box at the back of the stalls which was a lovely treat as well

Duckswaddle · 14/01/2024 15:40

Me and my sister took our girls when they were about 7, we all loved it. Gorgeous production, awesome songs, and we all loved the dress reveal!

DJer24 · 14/01/2024 17:59

I'd say it's good but not amazing. Frozen is an amazing Disney film, but there are far better stage musicals. Matilda for example. Much more value for your money.

DD seemed to feel similarly. She was 6/7. Didn't seem wow-ed

Each to their own but if I was going to the theatre as an adult I would choose Frozen, if I was taking a child I would choose Matilda. I think the kids in Matilda and the way Matilda is presented make it more younger child friendly and a better intro into big theatre. As an adult I much prefer frozen!

Are there any scary bits? I'd love to take a relative but she's only 5 and a bit sensitive to scary stuff.

voxnihili · 20/01/2024 07:14

@Andherewegoagain24 I took my DD when she was 3.5. She is very sensitive to scary bits but was fine and absolutely loved it.

Good to know. Thanks.

I have been multiple times (obsessed little girl) and am about to go again with my youngest. It is enjoyable with some amazing stage production. And yes the dress is a wow moment. Even seeing it multiple times and knowing how they do it there is something quite special about the anticipation in the audience and the atmosphere for let it go.

Sam barks was brilliant but it is probably the Anna that makes the show. Saw one with an understudy and while she was good, the experience of the show wssn’t quite as good as the others.

Bunnycat101 · 20/01/2024 07:30

@Andherewegoagain24 there were a couple of bits mine found scary as did some of the other children I’ve taken- mainly in the second half where they’re chasing Elsa. I think there are probably moments in tension in most shows. Matilda has its moments for a sensitive child for example as well.

DJer24 · 20/01/2024 09:03

Ah I didn't see Sam Barks, maybe she was on mat leave. Agree, the Anna was the star of the show when we went.

mimosa1 · 20/01/2024 09:05

The staging was great - highly recommend!

The dress reveal? The bit where the person standing beneath/behind the steps pulls the outer dress off her?

That's a pretty common trick in stage productions, why is it a wow?

Because it looks impressive? Because a musical such as Frozen attracts a lot of children for whom it'll probably be their first live show, or people who haven't seen a lot of musicals? Because even if you've seen plenty of them it's still extremely well done? It's fine if you don't find it wow, but a very weirdly defensive reaction to someone's opinion to try and counter it in this way.

OP i really enjoyed it, my DC did too, keep an eye out for cheaper tickets as has been said if you're not sure!

Fraaahnces · 20/01/2024 09:08

I had a free ticket and zero expectations. Wondered how on earth they would manage to bring an animation to life like that. It was brilliant!

JanewaysBun · 20/01/2024 09:19

My almost 4 yo loved it, i had high expectations and found it a bit meh. The film is amazing but the play didn't blow my socks off. We saw mary poppins after which was phenomenal.

For young kids, it's not too long and is impressive for them. The dress reveal is cool, it's done very cleanly. Singing let it go 30 mins too late was annoying as the preschoolers i was with kept asking for it.

Ill go again to take Dd and cuz my kids love frozen but will also take my older child to see lion king which is so brilliant

User478 · 20/01/2024 09:37

Go! It's really good.

Let DD dress up, I think there were about 400 Elsa's in our section!

Do not even think about looking at the gift shop unless you want to remortgage your house!

TeaAndTrifle · 20/01/2024 10:17

We went as a family (DH, DD 7, DS9) and even son loved it. Really brilliant show and great effects. If you sit in the front half of the stalls (we were row F) then at the end there's lots of 'snow' on you (foil pieces) which was a lovely extra surprise.

DaisyDreaming · 20/01/2024 18:38

A child screamed with fright when I was there once. You can find recordings of the musical on YouTube. It will spoil the show for you but can help you judge it better for her.

DaisyDreaming · 20/01/2024 18:39

It’s aimed at 6+

DaisyDreaming · 20/01/2024 18:41

Sorry my comment about it being 6+ was aimed at the person saying that let it go was half an hour too late as the pre schoolers kept asking for it. The musical isn’t a kids show, it’s a proper musical telling a story, not kids theatre. Polka dot or unicorn theatre is aimed at pre schoolers

Bunnycat101 · 20/01/2024 19:27

@DaisyDreaming absolutely agree with this. I think 5/6 is really the minimum and I’ve been waiting to take my youngest until she got bigger. One time our first half was spoilt by a toddler who really shouldn’t have been allowed in. We got upgraded to better seats but the kid was bored out of their mind and spoiling it for others.
