If your DC was/is clever but not academic what direction did they go in?

DS is in year 10. He's a bright lad. His teachers say if he carries on with his current effort (bare minimum) he'll get Bs, if he applies himself he could get top grades.

I know he's still got time to knuckle down but he hates school work. Hates revising, hates writing, hates homework. I can't see him managing university.

His options are business, IT and Geography. He's been to some career events in school and came home with a flyer for electrical engineering, a city and guilds type course, said he liked the sound of that but does anyone else have any ideas if they're DC we're in the same boat?

Norland Nanny, lives in her own apartment in Manhattan, earns £££ and is blissfully happy.

He might be interested in looking at (Computer) Games Art courses eventually! DD considered that for a long time but realised that she didn't really enjoy using 3D software, which is a big part of it.

Yes he is interested in that. Thats what I was thinking about re the Foundation degree

If he likes outdoors stuff and geography, would he be interested in biodiversity? There are various roles in forests around the country

I wonder if my DD will be like this. She is academically able (7-9s) but not currently keen on further studies. She’s going on to a levels only because she can’t identify an apprenticeship she wants to do. Hoping things will become clearer for her over the next two years.

Nephew has tried a couple of things but neither really fitted. He's now doing a media and filmmaking course and has found his calling. Sometimes it takes a while to find your thing.

I know boys who have done apprenticeships and gone on to be very successful. University isn't for everyone.

I had come onto say Accountancy Apprenticeship, but seeing as your son is outdoorsy then maybe not so much.

It's an incredibly underrated profession, with a clear path to some well paid careers. May be useful for other people in a similar situation who are reading the thread.

(You don't need to be a maths wonderkind, just an ability to follow logic and process).
