Wellies or walking boots for dog walking?

Pretty much as in the title! We’re getting a dog for the first time. I anticipate muddy chilly walks regularly. I currently have some very uncomfortable wellies or completely unwaterproof trainers so need a better option but wasn’t sure what to go for.

Will wellies be uncomfortable for long walks? Walking boots too open to water?

Wellies are my choice. I have long Dunlop, short Barbour and short Croc. Wear with good thick socks.

I have leather walking boots (need to clean all mud off them every evening or they rot) plus gaiters (knee high kevlar type bought online) in the winter. Keep you totally dry and warm. Wellies are useless except for paddling in ponds or in the garden. They rub my feet when walking in them and my socks disappear gradually off my feet. Also they are cold and your feet can't "breathe".

Muck boots arctic sport. Have cold feet and live in Scotland. Good for wet grass, the beach, mud and snow. Use yaktrax on them if icey. On my 3rd pair of muck boots and 3rd Labrador, so out whatever the weather.
A proper waterproof long coat is also essential.

Walked dogs for 20 plus years, tried every kind of sturdy shoes, wellies, muck boots and walking boots, then discovered Lakeland ( link below) I WILL NEVER WEAR ANYTHING ELSE NOW. Easy to slip on, good for skinny or chunky legs, like walking on air. I do 5 miles a day and have bought a pair in every colour. Absolutely love them. Even been known to go to pub and supermarket in them. Total bliss to wear and there are ankle ones for less wet days. All my family have bought too and are converted. Even my hardened hubby loves his.

I've got some Timberland walking boots that have done really well. Not quite 100
Per cent waterproof but ok .
I also recommend fitflop wellies. They are really comfortable for walking.
And some warm waterproof hiking trousers .

I work as a dog walker and I’m in my wellies 6 days a week currently. They’re very comfy and keep me warm and dry. They’re from fat face and have lasted well so far.

Although I know what you mean this conjours up such a lovely image of a debonair dog.Grin
