Day 11. Let's do this!

Wilkolampshade · 11/01/2024 06:43

Morning all. Have a calm and happy day.

BigButtons · 11/01/2024 06:45

Checking in.
well done everyone.
i did actually sleep last night. Went to bed late though.
like many have commented I am absolutely wiped out all of the time and still gassy and am retaining so much water.
woke up this morning to the news that a friend with brain cancer died yesterday.☹️

ParsnipAndPoppy · 11/01/2024 06:58

@BigButtons I’m so sorry for your loss, life can be so cruel. Did you have the gas and water symptoms before DJ or since you started?

disappearingfish · 11/01/2024 07:02

❤️❤️❤️ @BigButtons I'm so sorry.

Well done everyone for sticking with it. I was away for work on Tuesday/Wednesday and my previous habit was to get a couple of mini bottles of wine for my hotel room but this time I stuck to tea and felt a million times better the next day.

Monstamio · 11/01/2024 07:03

So sorry for your loss BigButtons ☹️

Thank you. I also went to a funeral on Monday this week. One of my daughters (18) is a mess- addicted to weed and trying to stay off it, but has lost her friendship group because of its effects. Other daughter is back home having given up university over Christmas! Cold as hell out there too!
to answer your question- no. The gas and bloating starting when I went alcohol free. Bowel movements have been odd too. I feel like I’m about 6 month’s pregnant.
i stopped the fizzy drink thinking that might have been the issue. No change.🤷🏻‍♀️

Wow that is a lot to have on your plate! Easy to see why a drink helped you to switch off at end of day, like so many of us. Are you feeling other benefits though that offset the bloating etc? Maybe some of the other posters who’ve done more DJs / AF periods can tell you what might help, the only thing I can suggest is lots of water and walking as much as you can. Take care

dudsville · 11/01/2024 07:17

Sorry for your loss @BigButtons .❤

dudsville · 11/01/2024 07:18

Fab thread title @HPLikecraft ! Also i just clocked your name 🤣

It's all going well here!

BigButtons · 11/01/2024 07:23

@ParsnipAndPoppy thank you. I appreciate the support. It was my OH sister who had the funeral on Monday. We don’t live together and he has been isolating himself due to grief so I have hardly seen him these past 2 weeks. Now he has man flu and I am trying not to snap at him. So- issues all around.
I am going to stop taking the probiotics and see if that helps.
yes- I am hoping seasoned DJers will come along and tell me this side effect can be very normal!

Iwanttheraintostop · 11/01/2024 07:26

Day 11 - still here! Friends have started organising a summer music festival. Has given my head a wobble as to whether or not I would drink then!! I am re-grouping my thoughts to focus on today and deal with July when July comes!

Els1e · 11/01/2024 07:39

Thanks for new thread OP. I’m still here. Yesterday was the first time I really fancied having a glass of wine. I got some tasks completed yesterday which I’ve been meaning to do for ages. I was feeling rather pleased and the notion that I wanted wine came on. Have realised I use wine to reward myself and equally to soothe if I’m having a bad day. Would like to think I can be more mindful about drinking in the future.

Submariner · 11/01/2024 07:39

Thanks for the new thread. Was struggling to catch up with the old one but I'm still here and still alcohol free!

asleepattheshop · 11/01/2024 07:46

@BigButtons so sorry you are going through a really hard time atm - you seem to be getting hit from all sides.🙁
The digestive issues are normal - your gut is used to using alcohol to make it work and it will now need to adjust to the new normal - if you can get out for a good walk or belly dance if you can't - physical exercise will help to get your guy working properly again. And try to eat fresh healthy food - fizzy drinks are always best avoided especially the diet kind. Hope you feel better soon.

Mykittensmittens · 11/01/2024 07:53

I have to share this. Blood pressure was flagged as an issue during a Covid vaccine ages ago, and since then the GP has monitored me and nagged me to go on medication which I didn’t want to do.

it was sitting around the 142/98 which is high, and in the red classification.

I take it every month and conceded if it hadn’t come down by the end of jan, I’d go on the meds.

just done it today, first since early December, and it’s down to 115/72 - and that can ONLY be down to doing DJ !!!!!

BigButtons · 11/01/2024 08:01

@Mykittensmittens that is excellent news!🥳
I wear an Apple Watch and I noticed that the in the day after necking a lot of alcohol that my heart rate was MUCH faster. Noticeably so. One benefit of doing DJ for me has been that my resting heart rate has gone back down to roughly 52 bpm.

ItsTapasTime · 11/01/2024 08:03

💐@BigButtons sorry that that you are going through such a rough time.
I think a big change in diet/ drinking can take it out on your digestive system. DH has commented that his ‘system’ seems out of sorts. Give it another week and see how you feel. I know from previous DJ’s, that my sleep, bowels and skin problems usually improve around week 2-3. 🤞

MeinKraft · 11/01/2024 08:09

Morning everyone! It's been a challenging week here, DH has been unwell and grumpy with it but it's also been a learning opportunity that I just can't let someone else's mood affect me to the point where I'm going for a glass of wine!

I'm on day 15 and I've been falling asleep at 8pm every night the past few nights whatever that is about. Might pop round to Holland and Barrett later and get a few cans of Trip. I've been avoiding AF stuff so far because I worry it could be triggering.

gingercat02 · 11/01/2024 08:15

Day 10 for me, busy day yesterday so didn't post. Still dry, still OK.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 11/01/2024 08:20

Still here, still not having a drink, starting the meditation again as well as the 'this flat WILL get decorated top to bottom this year' project.

I hadn't heard about Trip until last night so googled it and it comes up at £2.99 a bottle at H and B with the second one half price but they are £5 for 4 in Asda. I have a voucher so will try it from H and B and if it is OK will go to Asda.

Iwanttheraintostop · 11/01/2024 08:59

I have been reading the Goodrays is better than Trip as it has 30mg compared to 15ish of CBD so is more relaxing. I haven't tried either but I'm swaying towards Goodrays (sold in Tesco)

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 11/01/2024 09:00

Someone just mentioning mini bottles of wine just triggered me!

In my attempts to cut down and not stick a whole bottle of wine sone nights I have bought 2 mini bottles on the way home. Then of course I have no off switch and live a 30 second walk from the shop so then I have gone in and got 2 / sometimes even 3 more.

Ridiculous on so many levels. I end up drinking more than a bottle and spend -£3.50 x 4 on reality shit wine.

It's exactly this kind of awful desperate behaviour that makes me want to not go back to drinking. I just don't know if I am ready to totally give up at the end of this though

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 11/01/2024 09:01

Sorry for typos.

My last statement is ridiculous though as I am so much happier, calmer, more organised, free without it so WHY?!
