Poland weather-snow???

I am due to go to Poland next week. I checked the weather and it's -11.

I am somewhat prepared with a wool jumper and socks and hat.

I am anxious about shoes. I have runners but I think they might not be suitable for snow/ice.

Should I get a hiking boot/shoe for the trip? Something with a good grip at the end of the shoes? I won't be able to bring spare shoes due to baggage allowance. Would shoes be hard to break into now? I have wool socks.

I'd change the dates to April or May. Longer days and no boots, no snow, no worries.

So what sort of boot should I go for for myself. I don't want to order the two of them and return one. I would rather pick now and hope for the best.

Boot one looks like it has a roomier toebox from the other pictures and I like that. I don't like tight shoes.

Yeah, that would make more sense. The trip was a surprise for me for Christmas so I had no say in it. I likely would have picked March/April to go.

I am apprehensive asking him to change the dates to be honest because it was his Xmas gift to me.

It was 0 here today. On days like that I often find myself considering what it must have been like in Auschwitz with nothing but pyjama suits and rags (I read a lot!).

-11 in Poland is a whole different kind of cold. I wouldn't go without thermals, thermal socks, fleece lined tights and then more layers and a decent coat and hat.

I went to Lapland a few years ago and thought I'd prepared. I wasn't.

I got my fur lined snow boots boots off Amazon and wore them with two pairs of cashmere socks.

There is nothing more likely to ruin a trip than bad planning on clothing.

Boot 2 looks ok. Buy a size up so you can wear two foot layers.

@Pinkballetfrog when are you actually going and why do you think it will be minus 12 all the time??
Here's the forecast. The dips are just the lows at night.

Going next Friday. My phone was reading - 12 and - 13 sometimes but it was more like - 10 sometimes. I know that's likely nighttime and it would probably get somewhat warm like -2, -1 during the days.

I read the weather on my phone and it said some showers of sleet for when I get there.

I have some thermals and wool socks and wool leg warmers and wool shawl, jacket, hats, gloves. I think I might be ok-ish, except for shoes/boots.

I am currently wearing mens shoes and I can wear wool socks with them.

I doubt I will double up in socks so I think my own size should be ok.

The weather must be changing on my phone every day because I went back and read the weather for next week and it says -6/2. I know that would be low and hi and night and day. My phone was telling me something different last week.

I wonder would it be snowy there next week?

Those boots look more like hiking boots, would you wear them in uk on return? If not don’t get them. Get similar but in black or something so they can be worn a lot more

And yes the weather might not be that cold. It’s -9 to 0 where I live atm, -9 is middle of the night temperatures. Daytime it’s more like -3 to 0, and if the sun is out it isn’t that cold wrapped up. We usually have snow but have had very little this year, only high high up in the actual ski resorts mainly. We last had snow at house about 4 weeks ago now.

I absolutely would wear a shoe/boot like that. I had shoes like that before but not in a short boot style. I will look for one of these maybe in black. I do prefer black shoes already but I wore brown before too.

Hi op, my favourite make of shoe/boot for walking in general is keen. Usually rather expensive, but tk maxx today has several pairs on sale (they don’t have them very often). Here’s the link if you want a look
