Stranded on a desert island...you can pack 10 things...

But! The island has UK weather.

I would take:

  1. Below knee raincoat (new one from Baleno I'd happily live in)
  2. Dog walking boots (lasted 3 years, from Canada)
  3. 1 spare pair pants (wash 1 wear 1), sod the bra!
  4. Jumper (Uniqlo one that never seems to bobble or stretch and very warm)
  5. T shirt (thick one from a Japanese K Mart 2 years ago as above)
  6. Dog (dubious protection but would keep me warm on cold nights and company)
  7. Medicate moisturising cream with SPF30 (very dry skin so although a tent might appear to be a sensible option I'd be miserable without this)
  8. My Swiss Army knife
  9. Turkish towel (these things are just too multi-functional not to!)
  10. My wind up torch/Radio/light

It's annoying how much has to be taken up with clothes, right? So, choose wisely/quality!
Go!

AdaColeman · 09/01/2024 23:58
  1. Sturdy tent
  2. Small flock of chickens
  3. Fishing rod
  4. First aid box
  5. Hammer, saw, knife etc
  6. Rainproof coat with hood
  7. Boots
  8. Something to light fires with
  9. An army type of portable stove with pans
10. Wind up radio or signal flares (not sure which)

I'm sure I would already be wearing clothes when I got there!

ChangedCircumstances · 10/01/2024 00:05

Inspired all in one ski-suit!

Nope, it's clothes you'd take or accept some windburn in places you've never (hopefully) felt windburn before I'm afraid.

I can get a bit hysterical about hypothetical things like this. I watched Castaway with my kids recently and kept going on about what he was and wasn’t doing 😅 I recommend YellowJackets for a survival drama, but also yes spent a lot of time muttering about their lack of usage of things in the wilderness!

It does depend on where in the UK maybe, Jersey is very different from say Skye. Also depends on if you’re going to attempt to escape?

  1. Very warm waterproof massive oversized coat
  2. My sheepskin lined duck boots
  3. Huge serrated hunting knife (I see the gist of the Swiss Army knife but I’d rather have one good knife than a load of tiny options)
  4. A pregnant Ewe (sorry lambs, and also for wool and milk)
  5. A ram to make more lambs and give me more wool
  6. A Kindle with just about every book on earth, including something like Bear Grylls survival and one of those old fashioned ‘Boys guide’ type things.
  7. Solar Powered contraption with radio and light, can it charge the kindle?
  8. A massive roll of wherever thick plastic shit the guys who did work on my house recently used to protect the floors. I’d water and wind proof everything I could with it, and use it to catch rainwater. You could twist it into a rope-like thing too.
  9. Firelighting kit
  10. Biggest ball of twine sold on earth

I’d be straight away looking for fallen branches and things to build a shelter, plus looking for any fresh water sources. I’d use some of the plastic as a receptacle. Next day after sleeping in my makeshift plastic/branches shelter, I’d set off at dawn to look for a natural shelter and see what’s what. I’d be reading my survival books and seeing what edible things are about. The tides might bring in different things at different times, welks and wot not - I’d be hoping for a book in the kindle that identifies mushrooms, too. People saying things like lipstick are stressing me out, I take this sort of thing way too seriously!!

Changing destinations midway? Having phones with battery?

I was hoping we'd get more people willing to stay and begin Lord of The Flies style exploration. Or knitters. Usually someone wants to take to knitting something weird and wonderful - i'll even throw in both needles for the price of 1 item 😁

I'm happy to be stuck on a desert island. I just want to be in the sun! 😂

I'm thinking more Joanna Lumley than lord of the flies though. (anyone else remember that? 10yr old me was very impressed by the shoes-from-bra solution!)

Omg I remember the Joanna lumley program!
She was amazing!
