Anyone awake

I've had my quadriceps tendon stitched back to my knee today. Now the spinal block has worn off I'm in absolute agony. Oramorph and codeine aren't touching it. Any suggestions while I sit and cry.

Omg. That's awful. How did it happen?

Hatty65 · 09/01/2024 02:06

I'm so sorry, that's horrendous. Are you in hospital, OP? Can they give you something on a drip?

kneeagony · 09/01/2024 02:09

I fell down the stairs and landed solely on my knee. No other injuries which is why I think it's so bad.

Teasie123 · 09/01/2024 02:10

Wow. And how is it now?

Gilead · 09/01/2024 02:11

paracetamol tablets or IV? If tablets ask them to prescribe IV. Much more effective in a short space of time.

Rattenbury · 09/01/2024 02:13

Gosh that sounds so painful. I hope you recover quickly. Are you in hospital for long?

kneeagony · 09/01/2024 02:13

I thought just over night but the pain has knocked me sideways.

Would a drip be better?

OP posts:
Teasie123 · 09/01/2024 02:15

A drip actually would. It means the paracetamol would be working far better.

kneeagony · 09/01/2024 02:16

Apparently they're waiting for the doctor to call as they've given me all they can

OP posts:
Teasie123 · 09/01/2024 02:17

Oh no. What about rub in creams with ibuprofen in them?

Hatty65 · 09/01/2024 02:18

It sounds flippant, but have you got DC? And did you do deep breathing through contractions?

Yes, an IV would put painkillers into your blood stream and be more effective - but whilst waiting can you try to breathe slowly and deeply? It does help with pain. (although not as much as decent drugs)

Ladybird69 · 09/01/2024 02:21

Could you ask for a higher dose? I was on oramorph and co-codamol after a nose injury and was in agony. Just raising the oramorph dose made it bearable. Best of luck and a speedy recovery x

kneeagony · 09/01/2024 02:21

Thank you. I'm so tired and everyone else in my bay is sleeping peacefully while I writhe in pain.

kneeagony · 09/01/2024 02:22

I'm on 5ml every two hours. It's not touching it. I don't know if it's a big dose?

OP posts:
TheSkyWasMadeOfAmethyst · 09/01/2024 02:51

Following a number of major surgeries recently I tried multiple painkillers that either didn't touch it or had horrid side effects. The only thing that helps me through the worst of the pain is oxycodone. They should have some but you may need to push for it.

I really hope you get some relief soon.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/01/2024 02:54

IV paracetamol is an amazing drug. Ask for that as PP have said.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/01/2024 02:56

Have you got a brace on? Is it too tight?

kneeagony · 09/01/2024 03:00

They won't loosen the brace and the doctor says no more pain relief so I guess I sit in agony

OP posts:
Toddlerteaplease · 09/01/2024 03:02

Could you ask for a PCA?

kneeagony · 09/01/2024 03:05

What's that?

OP posts:
Cuckoochanel80 · 09/01/2024 03:11

If it was me I'd be asking for gas and air on top! Sounds painful. Get well soon 💐

kneeagony · 09/01/2024 03:51

They've said I can't have anything g else

OP posts:
kneeagony · 09/01/2024 03:52

I'm devastated

Oh OP. You poor thing. That sounds awful. I'm afraid I don't have any medical advice, but just wanted to send a huge hug. I'm wide awake if you need to message on here as a distraction.
