I've not been up long, had a nice looong sleep, unusual for me. I'm just settling into my kitchen spot while I drink my first cuppa in silence.

I've got a load of washing go in the machine shortly & last night's pots to wash up, when I get to them.

The girls are off shopping for my birthday today, with their dad, so I'm going to spend the day pottering. I want to mop in the living room once the tree's away - I'll shift the furniture about to get underneath it. Once that's done, I have two peg people to finish off, then varnish the ones I've painted over the Christmas hols.

Dd2 wants to cook later so tonight is home-made chicken nuggets with honey bbq sauce to dip, and salad on the side - one of her favourites 😋

Later on, I'll crochet a stone for the turn taking avocado, ready to return the avocado on Monday and read some more of my book. I'll probably do a few more Murdle puzzles too.

Both girls could do with making sure they've done all their homework so I'll get them to do that before chilling for the evening.

What about all of you? 🙂

I’ve come here for some positivity and motivation. I woke up at 10.45! I have terrible sleep issues so it’s great to have slept but now I feel groggy.

No grand plans today. DH has done most of the chores already. I will put some washing on and I think take the dog out for a nice long walk as it’s so sunny and bright.

DS is working 3 to midnight. DD is starting her TEFL course today. It’s the start of Very exciting travel plans so this feels like a big day for her. I’m very proud 😊

I might try and convince DH that we need a takeaway tonight.

Motnight · 06/01/2024 11:51

Good morning! DH away this weekend. Have taken down the tree and decorations (still to tidy), done 2 loads of washing and 1 load of dishwashing. Had a fresh croissant for breakfast courtesy of Waitrose freezer dept!

Am now feeling smug and also tired! Still got lots to do today, vacuuming, changing bedsheets etc. But so much easier without children around!

MrsMarzetti · 06/01/2024 12:09

Sat on the sofa in front of the fire after having managed a 5 minute walk on the beach and a quick cuppa in the garden. Now on the sofa exhausted as i have had Covid for 2 weeks and even talking takes it's toll. I am going to search for a new craft project to see me through the winter.

Good morning! I do love these threads when I can find them.

Had a nice lie in this morning, had a coffee and fruit loaf in peace before everyone else got up. Put a wash in and one in the dryer. Made pancakes and strawberries for the DCs and now going to get showered and ready.

DD2 has a party at a play centre this afternoon, I was hoping to take the dog for a nice long walk as it's a lovely day (finally) so she'll have to make do with the usual until tomorrow.

Making fancy sausage and mash for tea as DD1 has a hankering after seeing something on tiktok 🙄 don't actually mind though all suggestions are gratefully received! Will all chill tonight and catch up on some TV, might have a sneaky wine with DH. Was going to do dry Jan but not sure if that's going to work out!

gingercat02 · 06/01/2024 12:48

@ToriesAgainstHumanity we are watching Fool Me Once too. Only 2 episodes in but it's very good. Did you watch Stay Close, same writer.

CeriB82 · 06/01/2024 13:16

Feeling seriously menopausal, crying, not hungry, fucked off with everything and everyone.

so I’ve cheered myself up and bought…..

a Karcher Power washer. And ive been jetting the patio.

don’t know if I feel better but my patio is now clean

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 06/01/2024 13:17

Good morning/afternoon @lucysmam and a very happy birthday 🎂
I’ve spent the morning following an online art course and making notes. DH has taken the dog out and there’s paella for dinner 🥘
I have sorted my art stuff out so all set to get going on some actual art work!
Blue skies here but chilly, I’ve lit the wood burner so it’s toasty downstairs.
Nothing planned for this afternoon so probably either more art or crochet I think 😊

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 06/01/2024 13:19

Good afternoon Lucysmam and others. Happy birthday to you. I've been for breakfast with a friend at the local garden centre where I also bought new house plants. Then I did food shopping for the coming week. I've put the washing on but it'll go in the tumble dryer as it's bedding I want to put back on. This afternoon I'll do the housework. Trout for dinner with salad. Enjoy your day

daffodilandtulip · 06/01/2024 13:32

Morning everyone!

I'm absolutely exhausted after being back at work since Tuesday. No sleep after neighbours being prats all night either so really feeling it today.

Had a few cuppas first thing and then had a lovely silent dog walk to rest my brain! Stopped and chatted to some nice horse riders because the stupid dog was terrified.

Just going to have a picky leftover lunch and quite possibly some leftover chocolate then finish the book I started last weekend but haven't had chance to touch since.

Can't decide what to do for tea.

Ihaveated · 06/01/2024 13:34

Oooh I like this thread!
We've had a nice lie in after staying up late last night to finish Fool Me Once. Then been and done the Aldi shop- the fridge is full of nice healthy foods. Currently watching the Newcastle vs Sunderland derby. I'm on edge!
Nearly half time so I'm going to make beef sloppy joes.
We have no real plans other than a nice long dog walk later. I will do a bit of PhD work (determined to finish it this year) and then make something nice for tea. Thinking maybe a chicken laksa.
Also need a new series for tonight- thinking maybe Inside Man. DD has started watching stuff with us in the evening and it's really nice.

Tarkan · 06/01/2024 13:35

My brother and SIL who were ill with Covid over Christmas are travelling up to stay with my parents this weekend so we're popping over to see them and swap Christmas presents. DD1 turns 20 tomorrow so she's staying at home today as she's going out with friends tonight but she's going to join us over there tomorrow.

lucysmam · 06/01/2024 13:44

@JenniferJupiterVenusandMars I do like a good sort out of my craft things - I did my things that live by my chair yesterday & they're now in individual bags 😊 Tempting to get out my next peg dolls (if I have enough of the size I want!) but need to finish the ones on my dining table first 🙄

Upstairs craft stash is rather a mess & needs a good sort one day too.

@Tarkan happy birthday to your dd for tomorrow, I hope she has a lovely day 🥳

@maddiemookins16mum can you share your meal plan I'm always looking for meal ideas we seem to get stuck in a rut!

@Decafflatteplease

here it is, nothing fancy and a few meals are from when I batch cooked in December (I’m a big fan of cook once, eat twice).

Sat (tonight) - Pastitsio (a sort of Greek style lasagne type dish, using macaroni instead of lasagne sheets). Served with a Green salad. The mince base is from a big batch of bolognaise sauce I made last month (but I’ll add different seasoning to it for this meal).

Sunday - left over maple glazed gammon from Christmas, I froze slices on Boxing Day. I’ll do all the usual Sunday Lunch ‘trimmings’ with it.

Monday - Sausage tray bake - butchers chunky pork and mustard sausages all bunged in with olive oil, veg, red skinned potatoes, garlic, seasonings and red onions. Served with cauliflower cheese and green beans.

Tuesday - Coconut chicken curry, veggie curry side dish and rice

Wednesday - Beef stew pie (I have a 2 person portion of slow cooker beef stew in the freezer). It won’t feed three but will go in a pie which somehow stretches to feed three of us. Served with mash and veg.

Thursday - Stuffed jacket potatoes (probably cheese and smoked bacon) with baked beans or possibly just omelette, chips and beans (Thursday night is Line Dancing so a quicker tea)

Friday - Pan fried 5 spice salmon, stir fried noodles and veg.

ilovebagpuss · 06/01/2024 14:11

Hi @lucysmam and all. I was hoping to go into town today and buy something frivolous with my Christmas money from DF. However the town car parks are all flooded and closed so I lost my enthusiasm.
Did a meal plan and food shop instead was less fun but at least it's done.
We had a busy Christmas and New Year and then straight back to work so I'm feeling a bit jaded and tired today.
DD's are just loafing around, DH is doing a few jobs in the garden.
Later we have chicken fajitas and salad lined up. Might light the fire shortly so it's nice and cozy.

Eggsley · 06/01/2024 14:14

Afternoon all, happy birthday @lucysmam WineCake

DS2 and I were up early as he had a football match on the other side of town at 08.45. He was back to school yesterday so he's tired today. I got into bed to warm up when we got home as I was frozen.

DS1 has been gaming in bed pretty much all through the Christmas break. I think the rest has done him the world of good, he's finally managed to shake off the cough he's had since August. He's back to school on Monday, which he is unimpressed about.

DH's team have had a match this morning so he's been at that.

We've just had lunch and I'm on the sofa under my wearable blanket that DH got me for Christmas. I was back to work last Tuesday and I'm so tired, and cannot get warm. Have got a bit of a headache too. About to make a hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream for me and DS2.

Need to go to Tesco at some point for dinner, we've got nothing in but DH will do a big shop on Monday when everyone's back to normal. I've also got to go over and put my parents' Christmas decorations away, as DM is ill and can't manage it at the moment. Not sure if I'll do that today or tomorrow.

piscofrisco · 06/01/2024 14:26

Afternoon all. We had a lazy morning and then went out to take something back to curry's and I had a mooch around Homesense and bought some little house bits to put on the miserable and bare looking shelves, sideboard and mantelpiece now the Christmas decs are gone. We had things there before but I didn't think they looked as good when I put them back so I've moved some bits around and added a few new things.

We were going to go out for lunch but DH seems to have had a weird allergic reaction to god knows what and his skin became very itchy and his hands and face started to swell up. We came home and he had an antihistamine and is now fast asleep. Very weird!

I'm going to do some much needed cleaning-the house is actually grubby- or I might just watch a film-probably the second. Don't want to go out and leave him in case he wakes up worse!

DD's are at their Dads, DSS's at their Mums. So a very quiet afternoon and evening here. Hopefully DH will be better tomorrow as we have tickets to an exhibition at the Tate modern and lunch out at a rooftop bar in London, which was my Christmas present and I'm really looking forward to it.

Chelsea26 · 06/01/2024 14:26

Afternoon all and happy birthday @lucysmam

i was up this morning taking DS1 to football training, came back, made DP avocado and fried egg on toast and then woke DS2 as he had friends coming over. Made him sliced apple and peanut butter and then we went to pick up friend 1 and scoop up DS1 from training.

Made DS1&2, DSS and friends 1&2 a picky lunch and DP and I have just had spiced bean and spinach soup which is delicious and super healthy.

DP is back down working on the garden room now, the boys are scattered around the house doing various noisy things and I’m about to pop
to screw fix (fun!)

Friends and my boys are leaving late afternoon so just me, DP and DSS here tonight. We’re having fake Nando’s and, I imagine, watching a film. Dry Jan so just camomile tea to
accompany!

piscofrisco · 06/01/2024 14:27

@Eggsley I also can't get warm for the last few days-it's really odd. Hopefully not the start of being poorly!

Eggsley · 06/01/2024 14:44

@piscofrisco oh I hope not the start of getting ill for either of us 🤞 I am usually cold, but I just cannot get warm at all today. Debating going back to bed and putting the electric blanket on!
