Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I've not been up long, had a nice looong sleep, unusual for me. I'm just settling into my kitchen spot while I drink my first cuppa in silence.

I've got a load of washing go in the machine shortly & last night's pots to wash up, when I get to them.

The girls are off shopping for my birthday today, with their dad, so I'm going to spend the day pottering. I want to mop in the living room once the tree's away - I'll shift the furniture about to get underneath it. Once that's done, I have two peg people to finish off, then varnish the ones I've painted over the Christmas hols.

Dd2 wants to cook later so tonight is home-made chicken nuggets with honey bbq sauce to dip, and salad on the side - one of her favourites 😋

Later on, I'll crochet a stone for the turn taking avocado, ready to return the avocado on Monday and read some more of my book. I'll probably do a few more Murdle puzzles too.

Both girls could do with making sure they've done all their homework so I'll get them to do that before chilling for the evening.

What about all of you? 🙂

pregnantmum36 · 06/01/2024 10:29

Waiting for this baby to arrive haha!! So uncomfortable.

Hope everyone has a lovely day :)

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 06/01/2024 10:31

It’s a beautiful day here up North. I’m happy as I’m trying to clear my washing backlog. Washer broke over Xmas and my new one was delivered yesterday.
Im going to make a curry from scratch for tonight shortly.
We are all going to the cinema later this afternoon. We were meant to go last week but one of the dc was ill. We might have a walk there as it’s over an hour on foot and we need the fresh air. The weathers been appalling over the last couple of weeks here.
Need to find a series to watch tonight as we have finished ‘Fool me once.’

Morning all and @lucysmam

I was up and out with the dog by 7.15, a lovely fresh morning. I came back and did an hour’s hard cardio, and I’ve just eaten 2 boiled eggs and drink my 4th coffee.

Im lying on my bed at present with a sheet mask. Taking DD for an audition later, but I can dump and run, her dad is collecting her. I’m off for tapas and wine with friends this avo, to round off the hols (work and school back on Monday, boo!).

Decafflatteplease · 06/01/2024 10:35

Morning @lucysmam love the idea of a turn taking avocado 🥑

Slow morning here we all slept until after 9! Not looking forward to the 6am alarm on Monday 😱

Beautiful sunny but cold day here today. Got the sheets in the wash, debating putting them on the line but I think it's too cold and there's no wind 🤔

This afternoon the teens are off to family for a sleepover so it's just me DH and the little ones, think we might go to soft play. Then probably a takeaway for dinner.

Have a lovely Saturday all!

SkiingIsHeaven · 06/01/2024 10:39

I'm currently avoiding sorting out my office which I really need to do. I will do it eventually I just need to find some motivation.

Enjoying reading Mumsnet and drinking coffee too much.

maddiemookins16mum · 06/01/2024 10:40

I’m just back from Aldi. £73.00 for a big full week shop for 3 adults/2 cats so feeling pleased with my haul. About to put it all away and have a cuppa.
DH is doing upstairs housework and needs to sort his office out.
I’m doing downstairs and then writing my meal plan for the week.
Homemade cream of winter veg/smoked bacon soup and cheesy roll for lunch.
This afternoon I’m slobbing of the sofa with my book and Junior Bake Off.
Spaghetti Bollocknaise for tea tonight and we hope to go to the Cinema to see One Life (but might go tomorrow late morning instead).
I even bought some of those cheap daffs (can’t believe the supermarket has them already!!!), so my house will look brighter once they open.
Oh and DH has booked the Abba Voyage tickets for my 60th birthday in August too this morning. Plus he has hung out a big wash, the sun is currently on it and there’s a decent breeze yay!

Mammma91 · 06/01/2024 10:45

Good morning all - I love reading these threads, it’s so calming. Ds age 4 is up and wrecked havoc on the Livingroom. So I have a lot of housework to do later on. I’m 26 weeks pregnant so finding everything hard and overwhelming! I’m going to see my sister today. I haven’t seen her since Christmas so very much looking forward to it! Hope everyone has a good day.

Decafflatteplease · 06/01/2024 10:46

@maddiemookins16mum can you share your meal plan I'm always looking for meal ideas we seem to get stuck in a rut!

ssd · 06/01/2024 10:47

Ohhh the thought of getting the washing outside blowing in the breeze is very welcoming!

It'll be nice not to expect wind and rain every day....

Morning @lucysmam

FlorencenotRatchet · 06/01/2024 10:51

Morning @lucysmam and everyone.
Was hoping for a quiet weekend as week has been a bit stressful. Parkrun done then off to see my dad who's not well.

MrsFloof · 06/01/2024 11:07

Happy Birthday to you @lucysmam Hope they find you something nice.

DS started the day with a big slice of his birthday cake. DH is playing the piano. Floof has been playing mousey, he knocked over the Christmas tree twice yesterday, obviously knew it was the 12th night as he's not done it before.

Going swimming later today. Hopefully also putting up second kitchen blind. Silkies are fed and out. Collecting 2 parcels. May hoover up Floof's fluff from the carpet again, already malting and with 1.2 metres of fluff there's a lot of it.

RabbitsRock · 06/01/2024 11:12

That’s reminded me to do a meal plan! Really helps. I love lists generally. Remember them helping to keep me sane during lockdown.

FlorencenotRatchet · 06/01/2024 11:14

@lucysmam

Happy Birthday. Hope you get spoiled.

Simonjt · 06/01/2024 11:17

Good morning all, Happy Birthday @lucysmam

Its chilly here today -10, but the wind is very cold so it feels chillier.

I’ve been swimming with the children this morning and our son had an assessment lesson and managed to earn his 50m badge.

We’re off to the hospital in a bit as my husband has appendicitis, we’re hoping he’ll get away with a course of antibiotics rather than surgery. We’re going to have a lazy evening, so I’ve bought some snacks so we can have a film night.

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 06/01/2024 11:18

Morning all - what a lovely thread.

I’ve been for a run and done a shower and wash load.

Then sat very still with coffee and toast and MN for the last hour! Bliss. Have got some knotty work issues to sort through so planning to spend a few hours on them today so I can relax this evening with food and wine and family. Probably play cards in the evening too.

What on earth does this mean - “I'll crochet a stone for the turn taking avocado, ready to return the avocado on Monday” @lucysmam

lucysmam · 06/01/2024 11:23

Thanks for the birthday wishes 😊 they're showing no signs of getting up yet so I hope they've been listening & remember something I've mentioned so they're not wandering aimlessly 🙈

@Simonjt well done to your ds! I came across my 50m badge yesterday, when I was emptying a box of randomness. Goodness knows where the others went 🤷‍♀️

@GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas we use the crochet avocado (and peas in a pod) at snack time in work - whoever is holding them is taking their turn at speaking. The stone in the avocado was coming loose, so I'm adding a new one before Monday when we're back to school.

PurplePositivity · 06/01/2024 11:28

@maddiemookins16mum I bought some daffodils this week, I actually said out loud to DH 'yes, the daffs are back' although DH had wandered off and I was talking to some random bloke Grin

happyhouse2 · 06/01/2024 11:30

It's Nollaig na mBan - women's Christmas, so meeting some friends for lunch, then some charity shop scouting hopefully grab a bargain

MissConductUS · 06/01/2024 11:32

We have a snowstorm moving in tonight, the biggest in two years, so mostly getting ready for that. I did my shopping yesterday, and DH is making baked ham with a brown sugar and spice glaze, with potatoes au gratin.

My DD is getting married next June. I have my dress, but need to do some online shopping for earrings to go with it.

Shergill15 · 06/01/2024 11:32

Morning everyone. Cinnamon and raisin bagels for breakfast here too. Got a bit of a laundry backlog so will make a start with that. DD has her swimming lesson this afternoon, might incorporate a quick Aldi run whilst we're out. Not sure what dinner will be - need to try and get us eating a bit healthier in the New Year so might dig out the cookbooks for some inspiration.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 06/01/2024 11:33

Morning, I’m enjoying a quiet morning as DD is away on holiday so I have the house to myself. She’s due back Monday so I’ve just given her room a bit of a tidy, stripped her bed and put the sheets on to wash. Going to get ready now and off to meet a friend in the pub for a boozy lunch and a good catch up.

When I get back I’m planning to make some roast vegetable couscous with feta for dinner and watch the football. Then it’ll be a cosy evening in front of the tv with the cat. I started a new job this week and it’s been pretty full on so I’m glad of the peace.

EsmeeMerlin · 06/01/2024 11:34

Not much today. Ds2 is autistic and found the return back to school difficult, he also has a cold after returning back to school so he needs a quiet weekend. I am waiting on some parcels so if they come early we will walk down to the library and park this afternoon. The children are watching YouTube and I have been catching up on some housework. I also need to do some prep work before I return back to work on Monday.

Nomosapien · 06/01/2024 11:36

Morning everyone.

I am enjoying this thread! This morning I am trying to get rid of my hangover and be productive. It was my friends hen do last night and I am fragile this morning.

I have a 5 month old and 5 year old to occupy! My sister is coming to my rescue and bringing my nephew over so the kids can play. My partner is working then had a rugby match.
At some point I’ll pop to the shops and get the ingredients to make beef tacos for dinner this evening.

We will then watch a film as a family and relax with some treats. I feel so grateful for my family today, maybe it’s last nights drink making me emotional!

ToriesAgainstHumanity · 06/01/2024 11:37

DH out working.
Had a lie in.
At soft play with the kids.
Will be making "poppit smarties bars" later with them and taking down all the decorations.

Need to put loads of clean washing away and wash the kids coats ready for school.
Force them to tidy their bedrooms.

The bathroom and kitchen could do with a quick clean.

Will watch a bit more "fool me once" when the kids are in bed.
