Promise I’m not trolling - horrendous diarrhea at a relative’s

promiseimnothetroll · 02/01/2024 22:37

I actually think something’s properly wrong.

I’ve been on the toilet now for 48 hours, fever and feeling fuzzy and weird. BMs are literally just water, same consistency as when you have laxatives for colonoscopy.

I’ve been to the toilet 30+ times.

I’ve managed a glass of water tonight and two cups of tea, but can’t eat anything, even a tic tac earlier made me gag and run to the loo.

I’ve been here since 23rd, no one else is ill.

I had covid two weeks ago, was given prednisolone and amoxicillin and cocodamol for a week.

I’m also on a shedload of daily meds for mental health.

I did ring 111 earlier who said they thought it was the amoxicillin and said to avoid taking anti diarrhea meds but phone back if no better tomorrow.

I don’t want to give relative the gory details but I’m really, really struggling. I can’t move without worrying I’m going to shit myself. Started on the 31st at bedtime (so about 1am) and hasn’t stopped at all since.

After 3 days there is no way there is anything left in there to dispose of so I would start taking some immodium. How much longer do you have to take the antibiotics?

promiseimnothetroll · 02/01/2024 22:50

I finished them on the 29th

It’s just orangey water I’m passing but in massive volumes

Take some imodium! You're going to be dehydrated. I'd also consider calling 111 back as you might need proper help to get it under control!

MoiraRosesOtherDaughter · 02/01/2024 22:56

It could be the covid talking

When I had omicron, I was vomming and pooping (pure water) for a few days. The vomming was blood at one point - body just kept on going even with nothing left to give.

Diarrhoea wasn't an after effect like it seems to be for you though, however, different strains and all that...

Hope you get better soon

QuestionableMouse · 02/01/2024 22:58

You also need to drink something like power aide or rehydration salts because your electrolytes sound majorly off!

ThisBloodyWeather · 02/01/2024 22:58

It sounds like either food poisoning or Norovirus. Have you eaten and drank the same as everyone else?

Curlysusie · 02/01/2024 22:59

Phone 111 back
Clarify why they said no Imodium and take some if possible
You need to try and get some dioralyte/lucozade sport down
Continue sips of fluids
GP tomorrow
Hope you are better soon

promiseimnothetroll · 02/01/2024 23:01

Eaten exactly the same as everyone else yes, no different foods, if anything I’ve probably had the least food in the house.

Sounds like noro. It’s making its rounds at the min but I’m surprised you haven’t passed it to everyone . Drink water and get someone to get you rehydrating sachets. It takes its toll on your body. Orange lucozade helps me too.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 02/01/2024 23:03

I had this when I was 6 months pregnant. I went 18 times in one day. I think it was dodgy eggs. I was like this for 4-5 days.

This continued for 8 weeks!!!! Not as many times per day, but it was ALOT.

I had to go to my GP.

Was awful!

Hope you feel better soon!

Overthebow · 02/01/2024 23:04

How long are you at your relatives for, when do you go home? Maybe try and get a gp appointment if you’re no better by then?

Medstudent12 · 02/01/2024 23:05

Could be c diff if antibiotics. But unlikely.

Pixiedust49 · 02/01/2024 23:07

I was like this when I had campylobacter. So ill. I took Imodium but dr said it was the worst thing to do as it prolonged the diarrhoea 🤷🏻‍♀️

Whenwillitstopraining · 02/01/2024 23:10

Until meds can be bought or prescribed, flat lemonade will help to rehydrate you. Use unscented soap or sudocrem on your bum which is probably quite sore now.

I hope you feel better very soon.

MumPod · 02/01/2024 23:14

Oh my that sounds horrific. Covid can cause this. Seen lots of friends complain about this on social media. Started off with flu symptoms and now a few weeks later have awful gastrointestinal issues. I would def ring your GP in the morning and if they won't help ring 111 back. Good luck and hope you feel better soon x

NestaArcheron · 02/01/2024 23:15

I had these exact symptoms with Rotavirus, no sickness but the worst upset stomach. Caught from baby daughter and lasted two weeks, as did husbands. It was absolutely brutal. Flat coke, flat lemonade and paracetamol for the fever. I'd avoid Imodium because it just prolongs the infection if it's still present and so violent. Definitely call 111 and ask their advice on that. Hoping you feel better x

CatPancake · 02/01/2024 23:20

I had food poisoning once - suspect it was from chicken wings. Hubby also had some but it only takes one undercooked one I suppose.

you need to tell your relative. Advise them how ill you are and get a mini shopping list going. You’re reserves are about to deplete completely so you will run out of energy for cleaning up after yourself, wiping down loo etc.

wet wipes, wet toilet wipes, diahoralyte powder, tena lady (my pelvic floor went 3 days after shitting constantly), but of lukazade. Buscopan is great for stomach cramps. Paracetamol for the pain. Whatever light snack you can bear.

maybe place an order with their local boots or tescos and ask them to pick it up for you? They’re going to know how desperately poorly you are already.

hoping it’s an intolerance to your antibiotics and now you’re off them it will clear up Flowers

justanothermummma · 02/01/2024 23:20

There is a parasite called cryptosporidium doing the rounds, can cause diarrhoea for a long time, watery and non-stop - google it.

It's not bullshit, I got said bug from my daughter and it put me in hospital (we all got it), I also had sickness for 12 days and diarrhoea for 16, lost count of the drips I was on in an extended hospital stay. Nurses made me keep a log on how often I was going to the loo and checking it as my case was so severe. They tried to call it an infection in the first few days, but without my symptoms easing, they investigated and well.. hellloooo parasite. A lot of people carry this bug and many live normally, but it affects everyone differently.

Go to a GP asap/ring 111 - get someone to buy dyoralite to keep your sugar and salts up, eat plenty of potassium rich foods, if that drops too much it's a problem. Don't have Imodium, you need the bug to leave your system, Imodium will only extend how long it stays in your system, my doctors wouldn't let me take it!

JoyeuxNarwhal · 02/01/2024 23:20

My recent covid was like this.

Presume you had some other infection as well as covid because antibiotics wouldn't treat that - was that gastro related or something else?

promiseimnothetroll · 03/01/2024 03:33

I’ve taken two immodium now - whether NHS said it’s OK to or not, I’ve just woken up having been incontinent (thank God I realised instantly and haven’t eaten enough for there to have been a lot there - literally leapt out of bed and got changed etc).

That cannot be normal so have rummaged through their medicine cabinet in the bathroom and found immodium - said it’s double action or something, whatever that means.

Yes I’m in agony/exhausted.

I’m meant to be travelling later today, relatives are all back to work today so I’m meant to be getting the bus about 2pm. I suppose the only way I can do it is to hope the immodium works - will nip to the chemist for cocodamol too and pray it works to bung me up a bit.

They thought I had a chest infection secondary to covid, I was quite wheezy/rattly and spiking fevers of 39.6 so they said to take antibiotics just in case it had gone to a chest infection.

I hope your ok, just keep yourself topped up on Imodium until your safely home, then hydrate, probiotics and gentle boring food, nothing too high in fibre.

oneflewoverthe · 03/01/2024 05:19

You poor thing. Hope the Imodium works for you to get home! You must be exhausted

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 03/01/2024 06:00

If I were you I'd give your relative the gory details.
If you were staying with me I wouldn't let you get the bus and if you needed to get home I'd drive you there after work but I'd be very concerned if you were going home to an empty home.
Hope the Imodium works, I feel for you
