What happened to Younique?

It used to be everywhere, women trying to flog it all over Facebook with badly applied make up videos.
Now I never see it.
Has it been overtaken by Scentsy?

OP posts:

The latest MLM seems to be being a travel agent.

What MLM is the Spanish cleaning one? I assumed it was just resellers bringing it over in a van and selling it for quadruple the price rather than a pyramid scheme.

Same! Unaware of any MLM scheme involving Spanish cleaning products!

I use some, I like them because they smell nicer than the ones in the UK, though I know fake fresh smells are the devil on MN. looks at the febreeze plug in

Eyeballpaula · 02/01/2024 20:57

I feel like I'm being spammed with 'high ticket affilate marketing'. Same BS as MLM but more cryptic about what they are actually selling - appears to be water machines that cost thousands of £££.....

tdino · 02/01/2024 21:04

Forever living gone

Tropic here

Estate agent ones

Don't mind body shop to be fair.

Scentsy seems to be the other one that's appeared

Gymmum82 · 02/01/2024 21:06

It’s all FM perfumes and tropic round here

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 02/01/2024 21:09

Know someone who still —peddles— sells Forever Living shite - or, in reality, doesn’t sell it as no one buys it!! Plus he has now added Avon - which he also isn’t selling!! I’m sad to say he’s someone who believes all the hype marketing that he’ll soon be making money without trying but, in all the years he’s been doing it I’ve never known anyone but him use it!!

Round here there seem to be a lot of NJT consultants and a fair whack of Scentsy on SM mostly trying to recruit rather than sell!!

LutonBeds · 02/01/2024 21:24

Old friend from school still plasters her FB with Younique. About 5-10 posts a day. She’s on permanent mute, just checked now to see if she’s still doing it.
Shes also selling something called Trimfit, according to Google it’s owned by Yu Beauty so not sure if it’s a Younique offshoot.

Theres about 3 FM sellers on my (small) estate. An old work friend also used to do it but all seem to have gone quiet now. A girl who ran a beauty salon used to flog Tropic and used it when doing facials etc.

Elle Beau was great. They closed her FB and Twitter, shame as I enjoyed reading her story and continuing battle against MLMs.

PauliesWalnuts · 02/01/2024 21:29

My friend (with a normal business) is in our local business network, as is one of those travel agents. They’ve obviously been told to pimp each other out regularly on social media, so my friend keeps popping up on my feed advertising this woman.
Happened to mention to her a week or so ago that I was looking to go abroad this summer and she pipes up with “oh, Cheryl has some great prices to go to Greece this summer”. Her face fell when I explained I’d be going as a singleton and if I went with her mate’s suggestion the cost would double as she advertises all her trips priced per person as part of a couple yet I’d be going as a single and would have to pay a hefty supplement.

ilovepixie · 02/01/2024 21:29

The weight loss coffee was everywhere! Thank God that's gone too.

festivetinseling · 02/01/2024 21:34

A friend of mine does the Body Shop one and I didn't mind buying a few odds and ends off her once or twice a year, but the quality of their products has gone through the floor and the prices are ridiculous now. The also have a habit of discontinuing things I like.

The rest of these schemes - well they can keep it, whatever it is.

RaspberrSeed · 02/01/2024 21:38

Is Colour Me Beautiful one? I remember it in the 80s - lots of people wanting to ‘do your colours’ around here

The water machines are Kangen I think. Crazy expensive, no idea how they think they'll ever get sales.

"just grateful the aloe shite has fucked off"

Forever Living didn't live forever then?

Sadly Forever Living isn’t quite dead yet in the UK though it’s dying. The trouble is this leads the desperate uplines to lie more and more to pull in victims and try and prop up their MLM “business” that is no longer viable. People are still falling for it which seems incredible but if you’re financially vulnerable and possibly a bit socially isolated in some way and some friendly woman corners you, lovebombs you and tells you how successful she’s been, it’s easy to see why you might ignore the massive red flags. And those fuckers lie and lie and the MLM companies encourage them.

Younique had a few unhelpful things happen in the UK; the Elle Beau blog was very well timed. The BBC documentary Secrets of the Multimillionaires was also damaging (still on iPlayer I think) and also big questions about their tax evasion vehicle charity for female victims of SA in the USA which screened anyone out who had the merest hint of psychological damage - not much use then, and its agenda unclear.

Younique like many MLMs had a little boost to their general decline thanks to the pandemic. They recruited heavily among the bored, redundant, furloughed, but pretty much as soon as the restrictions lifted it was clear to those Covid recruits that the market was totally saturated and they’d all been buying shite quality products to move themselves up the pyramid, with no chance of selling them to real customers. They were the customers! A huge amount of Younique must have ended up in landfill c.2021. Now no one has the money to speculate on MLM in the same way.

BSAH was similar to Younique, boosted by the pandemic, all over everyone’s social media “raising money for the NHS” by getting people to buy product to donate to nurses etc etc. people who previously knew little about MLM got irritated by these kind of self-serving tactics and by the cure claims made for “wellness” products by various MLM such as Arbonne and its “immunity” claims. Along with all the anti MLM voices they’ve now created a much more hostile environment for themselves.

They’re all pyramid scams hiding behind a notion of product and I celebrate the demise of every one. Let’s hope that the declining fortunes of MLM will also kill off the parasitic mindset coaches who prey on MLM victims offering “expertise” when they themselves have already lost money in MLM.

I have no idea how I came about this but I got really hooked on it at the time! It's a whistle blower blog about YouNique and other MLMs, written absolutely ages ago, but still good Grin

Really enjoyed this blog- thank you!

HerbalTeaAndCake · 03/01/2024 00:20

Oh lord. A friend's wife used to
flog forever living. Now she coaches people into manifesting money. Seriously mystified as to who the fuck buys into this utter bollocks!

KenAdams · 03/01/2024 00:37

Travel is one. It's Inteletravel/PlanNet marketing.

Cincinnatus · 03/01/2024 00:43

It’s now travel agent.

Or selling their tuna canoe on OF.

Itneverrainsinsocal · 03/01/2024 00:48

The travel agent one is Travel Luxe I think…. I know someone that’s doing it. It’s based on the idea that everyone has travel needs, you might as well become a travel agent for friends and family and get commission for doing it. The company seems to get an allocation for certain holidays for the agents to sell on. There also seems to be a commission for recruiting people to join as this person regularly posts “wanna be part of it? Join this call to find out more!” Etc

these things really just prey on those who want to get rich quick :-/ I don’t think the person I know has made many bookings and when I asked about a certain hotel package they couldn’t match the deal I had found…

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 03/01/2024 00:52

It’s knee deep in ‘vibrations’ and something called Healy here. Snake oil for the 21st century.

Sunbird24 · 03/01/2024 00:53

I’ve got Arbonne and Monat but neither are particularly pushy (only see them mention it once a month at most) and the Body Shop/Ann Summers/Younique ones all went completely silent months ago.

The weight loss coffee was everywhere! Thank God that's gone too.

That popped up in my FB memories the other week. The post originally turned up in my feed because my sister was a "friend" of the seller, and I tackled her - what was so magic about this coffee, given coffee is naturally zero calories? Another friend joined in, she threw a massive hissy fit and demanded I remove my comments. I laughed in her face. Blush

Ah, I used to follow Elle beau! Brilliant!
Usbourne and shitty perfumes round here! With the biggest Younique hun still selling crappy clothes!
I'm still gobsmacked at so many intelligent women I knew fell for these stupid schemes. Not one #bossbabe has made any money or succeeded in winning that white mercedes or that trip to Vegas.
One friend was a veterinary nurse and gave up her good job to sell Arbonne. She had to get another job very quickly.

Colinorpercy · 03/01/2024 01:14

And whatever happened to Partylite-not heard from them in years either. Used to know someone who was high up in the ‘ranks’ of that….’free’ hols to Las Vegas and the like 🙄

leccybill · 03/01/2024 01:23

Plenty of raffles round here.

No, that’s a genuine franchise (similar to House of Colour) and not an MLM.
