Teens have gone 100% nocturnal!

Post Christmas. Cars broke. Skint. Nothing to do. Absolutely pissing it down every day so can't even go for walks.

They're literally going to sleep at 5am for the day after being up all night.

I keep waking them up and they just go back to bed/fall asleep on the couch. Ages 15, 17, 18.

Theyre going to be buggered come Monday.

I can't say much as I remember doing the same in my teen days but I feel exhausted just thinking about it.

Same here but mine are only 11 and 13. Lockdown was the worst!!!!

WhatsInStoreFor2024 · 02/01/2024 16:37

Switch the WiFi off at night! And hide all remotes...They will soon come round...

WhatAFoolishFool · 02/01/2024 16:37

I did the same as a teen. Their problem!

Yep. I've resorted to offering my 16yo a Nytol so he can sleep before 2am. Monday is going to be bad..

Oh yes, that was awful.

I'm going to have to insist we go somewhere tomorrow just to get them up.

My DD (18) has also turned nocturnal
It drives me insane and I keep reminding her that getting up for school next week is going to be an issue but she is 18 so .....

She has stopped coming downstairs at 4/5pm and asking - 'what are my plans!'
ummm dinner / pjs / bed

x2boys · 02/01/2024 17:02

Yea my 17 year is he same 🙄

Wokeuptired · 02/01/2024 17:04

Omg so glad it's not just my boys, they are 15 and 17 and it's driving me insane, they have starting moaning that we are not leaving them food in the microwave!!!!!

TigerOnTour · 02/01/2024 17:04

Does it help to wake them a bit earlier on Sat and Sun or does that just prolong the pain?

Rainbowshit · 02/01/2024 17:04

Same here.

Nongatron · 02/01/2024 17:05

I’m actually relieved to read this as I have been attempting with no success to prise 14 year old ds out of bed during the day. Tbh if I could I would stay in bed too. Weather bloody awful no money and dark

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 02/01/2024 17:06

OMG that would drive me nuts! My 15yo and 18yo are asleep by 11pm and get up around 9 in the holidays/weekend.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 02/01/2024 17:08

I've (unintentionally) ended up the same way myself. Despite trying I can't seem to sleep before 4am (often 5am) and sleep till 10am ish.

All I can do, and what your teens will end up doing, is fighting through the first couple of days of exhaustion until body clock adjusts again.

Lindy2 · 02/01/2024 17:08

My DD15 has ADHD and ASD and we constantly battle this. Her natural sleep cycle is to finally feel tired at around 4am and then wake up at lunchtime.

Sometimes she doesn't actually fall asleep at all and just stays awake all night and all of the next day. It's causing absolute havoc in all of our lives.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 02/01/2024 17:09

Similar with a 13 and 15 year old here. I had to boot the 15 year old off gaming at 5.30am yesterday, queue lectures about how they will have knackered up their body clock.

Glad it's not just us though.

peachgreen · 02/01/2024 17:09

Having been one of those teenagers, I am definitely going to be switching the WiFi off at night! I made myself so genuinely ill through lack of sleep.

arethereanyleftatall · 02/01/2024 17:11

Crikey, I think I must be stricter than I thought. Phones to me by 10pm in my house! (15&13).

mildlydispeptic · 02/01/2024 17:13

Puts me in mind of an elderly friend who had his late teen grandkids and their friends come and stay in his holiday home: "Honestly, they're like bloody BATS! Sleep all day and hunt at night."

🤣🤣

My 12 year old I'd the same, then again so was I when young. No phones or Internet then so I'd just be laying awake for hours or reading when everyone else fell asleep

Acinonyx2 · 02/01/2024 17:20

Yes dd18 and friend staying. They drag themselves up to get lunch (?) about 3. First year uni so weeks to go yet. I don't think they know what day it is... I'm living in a zombie movie.

jasjas3008 · 02/01/2024 17:26

Do most grow out of this? i wasn't like it after about 13 and my DD never was.

Between me and my friends, we know quite a few families whose children especially boys, who have never grown out of it and are in the 20s now, bone idle.

vidflex · 02/01/2024 17:32

I don't allow it in my house. 11am latest here. It's not good for them to be up all night then sleeping all day. It happened here during lockdown and it was not good for their mental health.

QuickDraining · 02/01/2024 17:37

Could be a way to try and get space. I must admit, this was my pattern when a teenager, but we had a very hectic household. I also loved to skip school, come home and go to bed. Felt much nicer and calmer with all the traffic noise gone. Yep it's anti-social, but hey. Do they disrupt you? With cooking, toilet etc?

Goatymum · 02/01/2024 17:41

DD still ‘recovering’ from NYE so up about 1.30 today.
General wake time has been approx midday which isn’t too bad.
The 4pm wakings in lockdown were horrendous.

Temporaryanonymity · 02/01/2024 17:42

Same here. I tried turning off the wifi but they turned it back on AND changed the password so I couldn’t access it. Never cross a teenager.
