What do you buy from Costco?

I've been about 3-4 times since I got my membership last year, and everytime I go I end up getting overwhelmed and not knowing what to buy. I want to make the most of my next trip soon, what do I need? I usually buy the crates water, the tray of sandwiches and other random stuff I fancy at the time.

I'm thinking I should buy some household essentials next. How do people rate their own brand washing detergent/tablets etc? I'm sure it probably works out cheaper in the long run to buy those in bulk.

What do others buy when they go?

Box of 6 bottles of Wine, each bottle works out about £2 cheaper than buying individual ones in the supermarket.
giant net of babybels
persil laundry detergent
dettol laundry sanitiser
collagen
mayonnaise
brownies
electric toothbrush heads

Toilet rolls, washing powder, dishwasher tablets, rinse aid, chicken & salmon ( both frozen in smaller quantities ). Oh and garlic and lemons.

I buy the bottled water as my son is a nightmare for losing reusable bottles, so in the long run it's cheaper to buy single use for this.

Binbags- a roll lasts months and they are better quality than supermarket ones.
Big bottles of ribena.
Lactose free milk
Garofolo gluten free pasta
Kitchen roll
Skippy peanut butter
Tofoo tofu
Frozen vegan meatballs
Dishwasher tabs
Cling film, foil and baking parchment, good quality and last months.
Rapeseed oil

IME Costco isn't a money saving thing, it's not cheap. Buy what you need and have the space to store.

Before we moved into a house without a garage that was mostly toilet and kitchen roll, dishwasher and laundry stuff, water.

Also used to get meat and portion it out and share with my mum. Freezer wasn't big enough for it all!

Most of what we buy is long life stuff we can store. The starting point is this list:

Passata
Beans
Tinned tomatoes
Shreddies
Cheerios
Weetabix
Lager (Asahi)
Cereal bars
Crisps (wotsits/quavers usually)
Mini cheddars
Carex
Fabric softener

We tend to get cheese because it keeps well. I'll also pick up some meat and fish when I have the freezer space to portion it up. We got a lovely beef joint for Christmas too.

Oh god this thread is making me want to go to Costco 😂 I walk in intending to buy loo rolls and washing pods.....I leave with so much random stuff I didn't plan to buy but I love it there

Minnesota38 · 06/01/2024 17:17

Washing powder and fabric softener
Part baked baguettes
Heinz baked beans
Gherkins (the giant jars of them)
Chicken soup
Falafel

.... And a slice of pizza from the cafe, then cheap fuel at their petrol station.

I'm lucky to have good storage. For me, a lot is about the convenience, so I don't need to think about loo roll and toiletries every week. A lot is cheaper, but I definitely price check some items when I'm there. Staples are -
Dishwasher tablets
Washing powder
Fabric conditioner
Vanish powder
Kitchen roll
Loo roll
Dettol surface spray
Carex handwash 5l refill
Toothpaste
Deodorant
Bar soap
Chewing gum
Coffee
Babybel
Beans
Meatballs
Sausages
Chorizo
Chicken
Mince
Kirkland batteries when needed
Tin foil/cling film when needed

For those that buy tinned tomatoes, any recommendations? I'd like to try the huge tins for bulk cooking, but don't want to waste a tin/meat if it's not good quality.

The Kirkland batteries are made by Duracell.
