All I had was a little action figure that I found months later buried in the garden.

I listen to a podcast and someone on there find two names written on the attic that had their birth and death dates - death dates being the same.

OP posts:

A pool table, a wall unit and a roll of Christmas paper

LangMayYerLumReek2024 · 02/01/2024 01:34

Everything

I bought a shoe house so got every single piece of furniture, decoration, picture, plant.

Even the fake TV, fake computer, fake wine bottles.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 02/01/2024 01:35

An elephant key ring and a house plant. They had loads of house plants that I’d seen in the viewings and they took most of them but this one was in the bathroom for some reason so they must have forgotten about it. I took over watering it and it’s still doing well and is now twice the size it was. I’m not usually good at keeping plants alive. They also left a sign up on the wall about loving your dog more than your partner. It’s still there as we have a dog as well and think it’s funny.

shieldmaiden7 · 02/01/2024 01:38

A hair brush in the loft that was it. I so wanted it to be something exciting but that was all.

NewtonPulsifer · 02/01/2024 01:42

A soft porn book that was tucked behind some sponge on the wall in the garage where the previous owner must’ve gone for a wank when his wife wasn’t about.

A full Royal Navy suit.

Some old records, boxes of kitchen pots and a wooden ladder. None of this of any value.

LauderSyme · 02/01/2024 01:50

A large holographic picture of a dinosaur.
Blurry family photos apparently from the eighties.
A baby girl's Christening trinket.
Cans of paint and a rusty bedframe in the attic.
Several broken scooters in the garden.
A nearly full pack of dishwasher tablets under the sink.

I kept the hologram and the dishwasher tabs!

SinnerBoy · 02/01/2024 02:13

A 1960 Daily Mirror and similar vintage Newcastle Evening Chronicle, under a carpet.

Some very old, crumbling dolls and a couple of ball pit balls.

A projector screen stand, in a cupboard in the loft, along with a non-functional air rifle.

Behind the chimney wall in the kitchen, an empty 10 pack of unfiltered Senior Service, possibly 1940s.

We found shoes in the fireplace when we knocked it down. Back in the day it signified a child’s death and their shes were left to keep their spirit there.

we do know a child died here.

That is both poignant and creepy.

hulahoopqueen · 02/01/2024 02:42

A full carton of Oatly milk, in date (used it for my Weetabix, it was decent)
All the curtains and blinds, v handy
The rotary drier
My favourite, though, was the box of Lidl's version of Mars ice cream bars in the freezer. A god tier breastfeeding snack, as it turned out. Very grateful for those.

Different houses:
House 1: The previous owners and all their belongings, completely unaware they had completeted the sale. Belongings included a gun safe - plus guns. (London)
House 2 : A Morris Minor in the shed. A bin full of water and fermenting onions. Deathwatch beetle infestation. (Cornwall)
House 3 : Dozens, literally, of pigeon corpses in the loft. (Manchester)
House 4: A bricked up victorian stove complete with a pressed tin tea-tray on the top, carrying an ash tray in the form of General Kitchener. (London). Also, massive fire damage under the boards and staircase.

Probably had enough of moving house now.

RampantIvy · 02/01/2024 08:24

Christmas decorations in the loft.

PuttingDownRoots · 02/01/2024 08:40

Saws in random places. The attic, the garden hedge, under the bath....

RampantIvy · 02/01/2024 09:55
Shock Are you going to dig up the patio?
DRS1970 · 02/01/2024 10:11

A small yacht wind chime, a commemorative medal, a tiny hedgehog garden ornament, a boot shaped garden planter, a decorative wall hung tea plate, and a bunch if keys that didn't fit anything in the property. All rather random. 🙄

rickandmorts · 02/01/2024 10:24

Only stuff the old owners had left and we knew about. There is however a cellar that's been closed up for around 50 years. As part of our house reno we're uncovering it this year. Dying to see what's down there!!

Coastalcreeksider · 02/01/2024 10:29

Current house, nothing but last house, lawn mower under the stairs and an old fashioned small range in the fireplace that had been boarded over. I gave it to my neighbour who wanted it and she cleaned it all up and put it in her fireplace in the kitchen. It looked really lovely too.

Mossstitch · 01/01/2024 22:36

An old very solid wardrobe that wouldn't fit down the stairs, my son had to take an axe to it (only tool we had)..........but how did they get it up there🤔

My brother had to take an axe to a massive solid wardrobe in my grans loft when the house was sold. My great grandfather had built it up there.

cawcaw · 02/01/2024 10:37

I found a copy of my childhood, fairytale book in one of the attics. I'd never been able to find a copy in bookshops, though many years searching. Great coincidence.

Also a huge box of seashells and an aerobics step in the outside lav.

dressedforcomfort · 02/01/2024 10:45

About 20 years of greasy, sticky food residue inside the kitchen cupboards, 20 years of burnt crud inside the oven, unhoovered carpets and toothpaste crud around the sink. 🤢

EnjoythemoneyJane · 02/01/2024 10:49

blueismycolor · 02/01/2024 01:25

Did you watch the videos?

No! I might have done but they were handed to me (along with a bunch of really nasty nylon underwear) by my builder, in the manner of the secret policeman in Allo Allo, because he thought they were mine and didn’t want it ‘the lads’ to see them, so I just told him to chuck them straight on the skip 😂.

Would have been interesting to have a quick look though - the lady vendor was full of airs and graces, all la di da condescension & hard card invitations on the mantlepiece etc. But what with the dead cats, the slutty underwear and the gin bottles stashed everywhere, she probably had quite an eye-opening private life!

bombastix · 02/01/2024 10:49

Hydrangeas, fatsia plants, a watering can, gardening hoe, a brush with no bristles. Also a very old and nasty fridge.

But took the lightbulbs!

Crossinsomekindaline · 02/01/2024 10:50

My old house had a kitchen knife in the attic with what looked like old dried blood all over it. I left a halloween skeleton mostly hidden in one far corner when we left 😂

Current property had a lovingly handmade wedding photo montage frame hidden behind a kitchen cupboard.

My parents sold my childhood home and moved whilst I was travelling in my 20s. Who knows if subsequent owners ever found my secret floorboard stash of porno mags, a huge hunting knife my grandad gave me, and probably about £30 in bug out cash (I was an odd teen 😂)

110APiccadilly · 02/01/2024 10:58

A very nice American style fridge freezer. Full of food. Previous owners had moved out 2 years previously. I leave the state of the fridge to your imaginations.

There was also a lot of random junk - towels hanging on the back of the door, bits of gaming equipment in the living room, a Barbie shoe in the hallway (this one was odd as the previous owners had no kids), a rather nice motorcycle jacket in the garage, about 20 cans of screen wash.

If anyone ever takes up the floorboards in my childhood home, they'll find a load of dolls house cutlery which used to fall down the cracks with depressing regularity.

FrenchFancie · 02/01/2024 11:17

Mixed bag of things from this house purchase:
a massive dog paddling pool behind the shed - no idea how we can fit it in the car to move it so to be frank, it’s still there. Possibly also the shed as I can’t remember if it was included or not.
a bathroom cabinet that think they forgot but it fits really nicely in the en suite so I’m afraid I’ve never mentioned it to them. Other than that the house was absolutely spotless and I was really grateful as to how they had left it.

previous house purchase was nice! And a load of hardcore Dutch porn. We burnt the latter…

gettingolderbutcooler · 02/01/2024 12:48

We found a war time ration book- none of them used! Gave it to a charity shop.
