All I had was a little action figure that I found months later buried in the garden.

I listen to a podcast and someone on there find two names written on the attic that had their birth and death dates - death dates being the same.

Home-recorded video tapes inside a shoebox in a secret compartment under the floorboards & two mummified cats wrapped in blankets in their baskets. My friend found the previous owner’s urine samples in the fridge when she moved into one place.

NewYearNewPyjamas · 01/01/2024 23:13

4 cats which were slowly collected by the rspca. I would have adopted them but my dog thought snacks were being delivered.

We also found quite a lot of photos of just her head and shoulders in various places - any diy we did such as carpets being ripped up there was a picture. So weird.

A garden full of dog shit, some of which had been there so long it had mould growing on it, and a large pink stone statue of two pigs mating. Our sellers were very classy.

I did leave my wedding dress in the lift in one House, no idea which one come to think of it!

CalFran · 01/01/2024 23:32

A lot of undisclosed issues.

On the bright side - a water softener

festivetinseling · 01/01/2024 23:40

Bodged wiring. Bit unexpected, since we bought the house from an electrician.

elonmusk · 01/01/2024 23:44

A three litre bottle of holy water. We are truly blessed :)

PickAChew · 01/01/2024 23:45

Earrings everywhere, including in the dishwasher. Tampon wrappers in all sorts of nooks and crannies. A cupboard full of cheap booze.

HandsomeGreta · 01/01/2024 23:45

Some flowery size 12 knickers from George at Asda, so very dry they were crunchy. Stuck down the back of a radiator.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 01/01/2024 23:50

Twelve bottles of (probably made and distilled on site ) eau de vie ✌🏻🫠. This was some compensation for the old and extremely dirty bath which had materialised in the utility since we last saw the house.

The owner took the connectors to the gas cooker with him though, so we didn’t find them.

Victorian coins hidden in the walls (1800s house). They will stay in the house if I ever leave. A lovely handmade wooden stool. A lump under the newish carpet, for years I've meant to check if it's hidden banknotes, but never looked 😅. Some dog graves, some paint cans, a road sign, ugly concrete garden ornament, garden chair. There's two attics and I've only actually looked in one, so there could be treasures in there for all I know

DollyDaydreamW · 02/01/2024 00:03

Oh, and a kitchen knife and some enamel plates buried in the garden, which went through the dishwasher and get used every day 😅

maximist · 02/01/2024 00:09

A box of ammunition under the floorboards and many many teaspoons in the garden...

Ariela · 02/01/2024 00:14

Previous house was a do-er upper bought and extended by a group of 4 lads - who then had a falling out and had to sell it unfinished as they ran out of money. It was opposite an off-licence. Aside from the nail through the wiring which was shorting the electricity, we also found that they'd simply swept the upstairs floor into the void, and put the floorboards back down. There were around 250 empty beer cans in there. No wonder not a single wall of their extension & alterations was square.

For me, a massive wall hole where the water softener was supposed to be…

Couchant · 02/01/2024 00:17

A stash of 80s porn magazines with the pages stuck together.

themuminator · 02/01/2024 00:18

A file of police interview transcripts, court and solicitor info from the previous owner going to prison.

The most interesting read was the police interview transcripts. (Possession of cocaine with intent to sell, and possession of ammunition)

And a load of thongs behind the boiler. It was the plumber that found them. I didn't realise until he left that he'd left them all out for me thinking they were mine 🫣

2/3 Mates condoms in loft expiry date August 84.
One purple stocking in cupboard.
Mould

When I was a child we moved into a large Edwardian house that had been a home to a family for 60 years. It was really hard on them moving out but they were so elderly and couldn't cope with the house or upkeep of the huge garden. They both sadly died within a few months of leaving. They were both late 80's. We found a lot of stuff in the loft and my bedroom had built in wardrobes that had cupboards on the top. In those we found a pair of spats and a top hat, some
grainy photos of their wedding (heart rending!) and a pile of newspapers from the early 1940's. I remember my dad being fascinated with those. They had raised four children in that house and it was full of their memories. My parents lived there until my mum died, so 20 odd years. The house has been massively developed since then and I do wonder what the new owners found in the nooks and crannies!

You bought my Nan's house. She'd buy it in bulk 🤣

tiberseptim · 02/01/2024 00:44

A big wooden box full of empty Kilner jars wrapped in Radio Times' from 1948. Three rotting beehives in the bushes at the e d of the garden.

Runningandtired · 02/01/2024 00:45

Letters from scientologist in the USA asking if the recipients would change their mind and come back. Plus letters telling them if they just levelled up and paid more all would be forgiven. Think they did a runner because we had scientologist knocomg on the door 3 weeks in a row and helped themselves to the garden to check through our windows.

Naiveinthesematters · 02/01/2024 00:58

Some front teeth caps in a bathroom cabinet and a hand made sculpture of a naked man under a shrub in the garden.

penjil · 02/01/2024 01:20

A bath full of turds and a sleeping Jamaican man.

You must live in London......
