It looks it.

Depends if you annoy him or not.

catin8oots · 01/01/2024 20:43

No more dangerous than boxing or MMA I should imagine

Tbf I do enjoy watching those massive blokes carrying those huge stone balls

This lad here is pulling a bus. It can't be good for you.

I have watched this over the years, it fascinates me

It looks dangerous to be honest. Plus they usually have massive stomachs and I worry about them getting hernias and stuff.

1AnotherOne · 01/01/2024 20:46

A lad I used to go to the gym with competes in strongman. He’s only had a couple of minor injuries. He works hard and within his limitations.

Lotrehin · 01/01/2024 20:46

I think they wear the belts to stop them getting hernias.

I say this, but it's literally me thinking it and I have no idea if it's true.

Ive seen them pulling buses and trucks before. Unbelievable.

These sort of competitions go back centuries though to be honest, just different things that they demonstrated it with

AllIsWellish · 01/01/2024 20:52

My friend does it, she pulled a car recently, don't know how she dies it she's tiny

CharlottePimpernel · 01/01/2024 20:54

I don't know but I love it. I bloody love a big bulky muscle man.

needastrongoneagain · 01/01/2024 20:56

As with any lifting, it's about technique. These guys technique is impeccable, which allows them to do/lift these incredible things.

My guilty Christmas pleasure 😁 got a bit of a thing for Pablo Kordyaka now.

Nat6999 · 01/01/2024 21:08

The diet is probably the most dangerous, I follow Eddie Hall & he can eat 12,000 calories in a day without trying.

Me too. Completely turned off of Evan Singleton though

He's lovely (and quite smiley!) and much leaner than your usual strongman with the 'powerbelly'...am def enjoying watching him!

Tanaqui · 01/01/2024 21:28

Tom Stoltman who won last year seems lovely, and it's great to see a sportsman talking about having autism.

TroglodytesTroglodytes · 01/01/2024 21:35

My father was watching this over Christmas. I was panicking that one to the weights they have to chuck over the wall was going to bounce off the wall onto the guys heads.

QuickDraining · 01/01/2024 21:40

My brother watched Eddie Hall deadlift 1/2 a tonne, and he had blood coming out his eyes or something. I must admit I wouldn't fancy watching a man have his giblets fly out his arse or anything doing a lift. But when it's all good it's super to watch.

Mirrorballsocial · 01/01/2024 21:46

I watch it every year. (no spoilers please!)

I think there's risk but no more so than mma or boxing.

TackyTimes · 01/01/2024 21:54

Them throwing the kettle bells behind them gives me the eeby jeebies.

I’m reliably informed that his eyeballs were not the only orifice that blood came out of! I believe it was his nose and ears as well. And then he couldn’t remember how to do standard stuff for a while afterwards. I think he said that he thought he was going to die.

So yes, I think it can be quite dangerous.

barkymcbark · 01/01/2024 22:06

No I'd say it's not, a lot less dangerous than professional motorcycle racing or downhill skiing. But like anything, you're pushing your body to the limit so you will get injured. Mark Felix has just retired at 57 and if you watch him he's limping and can't straighten his arms. I expect his joints will be fucked in a few years.

A friend of mine does string woman and she's fit as a fiddle and follows a strict exercise and nutrition routine. I'm sure it's a lot better for you to be a strongman/woman than sitting on a sofa eating leftover Christmas goodies and drinking alcohol

barkymcbark · 01/01/2024 22:08

@Rockfordpeach agreed regarding Singleton. He's got quite a reputation for not being very sportsmanlike either.

Love Luke and it was a shame Brian Shaw didn't do better this year. I was rooting for him.

Rockfordpeach · 01/01/2024 22:14

@barkymcbark that's what put me off: the arrogance and unsportsmanlike attitude. I think part of what I enjoy about WSM is how the competitors are usually so supportive and encouraging of one another.

I love both the Stoltman brothers, Brian Shaw always comes across well and I wish he had finished on more of a high. WSM won't be the same without Mark Felix next year

It looks it.

Well I seem to remember there was a British bloke who won it and he had to wear a ventilator type thing at night as his sheer weight wasnt good for his breathing🤔
