I hope you all had a lovely Christmas & managed to relax a bit 🎄

I'm just brewing my first cuppa, after having a bit of a lie in. No-one else is up yet & the silence is lovely 😊

We have no real plans for today other than to potter & straighten up the house. Both bathrooms need cleaning & the rest looks a bit rough round the edges after the last week. The washing basket's full to bursting too 🙄

Hopefully that won't take long & I'll have time to start on some peg people for when we return to school. I've been working on a crochet sausage dog too so want to try and finish his body tonight.

Tea is a help yourself affair tonight - I'll cook the rest of the buffet type food at some point. Personally, I'm going for cheese, followed by mince pies and Bailey's cream 😋

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning all.
Parkrun done. Need to get some new work shoes before I go back on Tuesday as have worn holes in my last pair!
Meeting a friend for coffee and a catch up later.

dothehokeycokey · 30/12/2023 10:46

Currently the only one awake in our house.

I've been I'll for a week with a bad sinus and throat infection so got meds from dr yesterday.

Plans to pop out later with dd and dh to try and find dd a pair of jeans and I have a full ironing basket and more washing to get on to.

Finally bought a eufy robo vac this Xmas and we set it up yesterday so am going to set that to do a hoover round while I sort washing and dishwasher out.

Think yea tonight will be the rest of the buffet type food left and a chilled out evening

Good morning @lucysmam and all.

A special day today as dp and I are on the train going to the theatre. We have become big fans of matinées, and there should also be time to go to the National Portrait Gallery. Then home and starting to shift back to normal food, courgette risotto tonight.

Frenchyq25 · 30/12/2023 10:52

Taking DD and her boyfriend to the train station in a bit as they've been staying for a few days. It's been nice having them here but it will also be nice to have my house back!. Then will have a mooch around the shops (going with husband and son but they will go and do their own thing).will meet at 5 guys for some lunch.Son is working tonight so me and husband will probably go out for a bit.

belge2 · 30/12/2023 10:52

Been for my weekly cold water plunge and then home to shower. Now chores and some shopping. Going to take down Christmas decorations too.

Purplerain0505 · 30/12/2023 10:56

I’m trying to salvage something of the day. The sciatic pain that I’ve had all week finally reduced me to tears this morning. It’s such a horrible, non-stop pain that’s stopping me from enjoying anything. I might just sit on the sofa and drink wine!

I think we’ll make sure we get out at some point for some fresh air and to let DS run around. We also need to pick up some nice food to have NYE since my bloody back issues mean we’re now staying home. I might try and crack on with some housework if I feel up to it and will have an afternoon bath as well.

BloatedBrenda · 30/12/2023 10:59

@lucysmam it is so easy to get sidetracked generally, let alone this time of year and you've had a lot to cope with/do. I've been struggling with a uni commitment on top of my ft day job in recent months and not like me but I just couldn't be bothered to listen or read to anything at the end of my day.

I've just looked up Merry Midwinter - looks fab, I might listen to the sample chapter on audible, sure it will be there.

So many people with COVID, I hope you all recover soon - took me over a month to feel right after a bout of it recently. My GP said it was really affecting people this winter when I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago.

Hope your husband gets the all clear @Mumdiva99 .

Crunchymum · 30/12/2023 11:00

After several lazy days (kids been indoors as weather is crap, I've been WFH, DP is renovating our staircases) we were looking forward to visiting friends they've cancelled due to illness.

So we're going to have an early lunch and head out for a canal walk, have hot chocolate at the nature reserve we pass and have a mooch around Camden Market.

Fajitas for dinner and we've "agreed" on Peter Rabbit 2 for the kids this evening.

lucysmam · 30/12/2023 11:07

3 sides cleared, wiped down, and put back together. The next one contains pot mountain so I've stopped to make another coffee first. Table will be the last thing cleared, before mopping, as I'm using that to dump homeless things as I go.

@BloatedBrenda yes, you're right about it being easy to become sidetracked anyway. Totally get the cba to do anything at the end of the day thing - quite often I stick Food Network on the box & just sit not really taking any of it in.

@Purplerain0505 that sounds awful, can you take something to help?

I hope everyone who's unwell is on the mend soon 💐

Exciting times here - I've ordered a replacement window latch for one of the downstairs windows, and today I'll see if I've ordered the right one. And the excitement doesn't end there - if it's the right one, I've another two to order and fit. The fun just never stops.

Aside from that, an Aldi run (and a little trip to Costa afterwards), laundry, and a gradual return to real food after a week of grazing.

@Mumdiva99 hope all goes well for your husband

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 30/12/2023 11:10

Good morning Lucysmam and others. I should have met a friend for breakfast, however we both decided it was too cold so cancelled. I went to Tesco instead and got the food in which will do me most of next week. I'm having a cuppa and being really thankful I did go to Tesco because the snow has started and it's heavy. I should be going to relatives for New Year. If the snow keeps up, that'll not happen so I'm glad I thought ahead. Have a nice day all

jmh740 · 30/12/2023 11:12

My eldest should be visiting today but I've not heard from them they are as reliable as a chocolate fire guard! They have confirmed they are in our town but no reply to 3 messages I've sent asking what their plans are, Also just had a message from neice who lives in NYC to say she's in the UK and visiting my dad today, eldest isn't talking to my dad at the minute after narcissistic dad said some hurtful things to them, I don't know if I should go to dad's to see neice or hang around at home incase eldest shows up I haven't seem them since summer.

MeinKraft · 30/12/2023 11:14

We are all snuggled on the sofa in pyjamas still, watching the rain lash against the windows (me) and paw patrol mighty pups (children) the electricity company sent me a late Christmas present...our quarterly bill Xmas Sad so that's paid and I have a load of washing hung up (still a mountain of stuff to wash!) then tonight DS and I are going to watch ice hockey so that should be fun!

crackfoxy · 30/12/2023 11:17

2ww breast clinic appointment Hmm. The giving blood. Need to squeeze in a food shop as well! I'm so tired! Have a good day all

starynightskys · 30/12/2023 11:21

Im still battling yesterday's migraine and watching It's a wonderful life on tv its a very quiet here today.

Eggsley · 30/12/2023 11:26

Morning all, I hope all the ill people are feeling much better soon.

I started de-cluttering, tidying and cleaning yesterday so I've more of that to do today. Have listed a load of things on our local free cycle site so have been arranging collections for people, mostly for tomorrow.

I'm 40 next month and have decided 2024 is the year I need to get my act together - so I'm starting with a room-by-room declutter, tidy and clean. I'm only 1 room in but it was an awful mess, just a dumping ground. I've nearly finished though! The next room is just the downstairs toilet so that shouldn't take too long. Living room and dining room are ok generally so they also shouldn't take too long hopefully. Then the kitchen. Eek.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 30/12/2023 11:27

Good morning from a rather damp Cotswold hillside.
I was completely exhausted by the time everyone left yesterday, I went to bed mid afternoon because I didn’t know what to do with myself 😵‍💫. All the Christmas stuff has been put away and the house is tidy.
Consequently I slept badly but at least I don’t have anything planned for the next few days.

On Boxing Day I spent several hours having a really good sort out of my yarn stash etc, I put a big black bag of yarn up for grabs on the local Facebook and it was taken within 3 minutes!
My yarn is now all under my ottoman bed so I know exactly what I have, my craft room/little bedroom cupboard is tidy and I actually feel rather pleased with myself 😊

Today I am going to play with my new art materials that I treated myself to for my birthday and Christmas, knowing that I wouldn’t get any presents other than from my friend, and I hope to start a coloured pencils online course. I have also booked some online sessions starting on New Year’s Day.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend 🌹

Shergill15 · 30/12/2023 11:30

Taking DD into town to spend some Christmas money and to see Wonka, if she gets her backside in gear that is! Chilled out evening at home I think, possibly tackling some of the laundry mountain and trying to find homes for all the Christmas lego/barbie paraphernalia

lovelyjubbly888 · 30/12/2023 11:33

I’ve got the hairdressers at half 1 so looking forward to getting my hair sorted out, but at the same time really cannot be bothered leaving the house!

EsmeeMerlin · 30/12/2023 11:37

Having a lazy morning. I work in a school and in the school holidays get into a really bad habit of staying up late and then struggling to get moving in the mornings. I am enjoying a bit of a slower pace though. Watching the boxing day episode of death in paradise and then I will get on with some housework. Later I have to take my children to a soft play party. Feel very sorry for the party girl, mum has hired out a soft play for exclusive use and more than half the class have RSVP no because of sickness bugs, colds, chicken pox and Christmas plans.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 30/12/2023 11:54

I’ve got the house to myself for the first time in ages, I got up early to see DD off to work, fed the cat, had a bacon sandwich and now just lying on the sofa browsing on my phone. Planning to have a shower and wash my hair in a bit then into clean pjs and back to the sofa to read one of the new books I got for Christmas, listen to some podcasts and enjoy the peace. I’m planning to roast a chicken later for dinner and use up some of the veg in the fridge.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 30/12/2023 11:59

DD 13 has gone to a football match with her dad.
I’ve to do an Aldi shop at some point before we all go and watch Wonka later on.

Decafflatteplease · 30/12/2023 12:09

Morning @lucysmam and all!

Weve had a really lazy morning and it's been lovely!

Just having lunch then we are all going swimming this afternoon I'm really looking forward to relaxing in the pool. Hopefully it will be quiet! We had it to ourselves the other day so 🤞🤞🤞

Easy chicken pasta for dinner.

Then TV and bed!

Beezknees · 30/12/2023 12:13

Had a lazy morning. I'm going to meet a friend this afternoon for a drink and late lunch. 15yo DS is meeting a mate at Mcdonalds then his mate is stopping over at ours tonight. Tomorrow DS will go to his hobby in the morning, I'll do a bit of tidying and food shopping and go to a class at the gym. Then home for a glass of 🍷 to ring in the new year.

mamaduckbone · 30/12/2023 12:17

Good morning @lucysmam and mumsnet, although it seems to be afternoon already.
A lazy day here too after lots of entertaining and visiting over Christmas. I managed a very slow run this morning and we had yet more scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast to use up the smoked salmon mountain that Dh purchased!
I've cleaned the bathroom and emptied the dishwasher, and Dh has sorted the recycling and put the washing machine on. That's about it for jobs.

I might start my jigsaw this afternoon and read my book. If the weather improves we may go for a walk. Ds1 is still in bed and ds2 is full of cold so he certainly won't want to move far.

Ds1 needs to go and look at a car that he wants to buy (passed his test before Christmas and had money for his 18th plus savings) but I'm secretly hoping not today.
