£200 to spend on me

WutheredOut · 29/12/2023 21:42

My Mum gave me £200 to spend on myself for Christmas

I’ve realised I am very very bad at spending money on me … usually I can persuade myself out of spending because I don’t need anything so any spending tends to go on the house or on the kids

I am not allowed, and don’t need to, spend it on anything sensible

So… if you had £200 what would you spend it on?

Clothes, a show or or put it towards a hotel stay/weekend away

Notimeforaname · 29/12/2023 21:46

Sometimes I hate actually shopping for things so can spend a few hours online in bed with a bucket of tea looking up/ordering all the bits I want

Guavafish1 · 29/12/2023 21:48

I would go to a nice restaurant

catsanddogsandrabbits · 29/12/2023 21:49

Earrings

NoelJo · 29/12/2023 21:52

I’d buy some perfume and a reasonably nice jumper or sweatshirt then I’d pop to the nearest supermarket and pick up a book I fancied, a bunch of flowers and a big bar of chocolate.

GeneCity · 29/12/2023 21:58

Boots and a fair isle jumper 💛.

mynameiscalypso · 29/12/2023 22:00

I've just bought myself an Apple Watch. It was a little over £200 (I went for the basic model) but I'll get a lot of use out of it.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/12/2023 22:02

What DONT you get to do op?

Buy new clothes?
Have time out?
Treat yourself to nice stuff?

£200 would get me a few new books, possibly a day at the spa or a theatre ticket, some decent boots.

caringcarer · 29/12/2023 22:04

A vintage gold and ruby/sapphire ring.

Ambi · 29/12/2023 22:09

Jewellery / perfume/ a nice purse/ decent bras/ smart watch/ new phone / full body massage.

What are you interested in OP? There much be something that makes you think, I'd love one of those....

WutheredOut · 29/12/2023 22:22

DH bought me a pile of knitwear (and books) for Christmas - although I have nothing to go with the colours he bought me but I am trying to lose weight so don’t want to buy jeans or trousers just yet

Can’t do jewellery or perfume as I have rubbish sensitive skin

We already have four shows booked in 2024

Thought about an apple watch or Fitbit type thing but I haven’t worn a watch for over 20 years and I’m worried I’d not like the addition on my wrist all the time

See …. I am proper picky!

A new bag? I've just bought myself a new AllSaints one. They have some nice ones in the sales at the moment.

hattie43 · 29/12/2023 22:42

Lego

BeaLola · 29/12/2023 23:22

Not sure but perhaps a kindle , perfume , a decent haircut and proper manicure or an amazing massage.

Maybe a picture that I could put in my study and everytine I looked at it would remind me of my Mum and make me smile

clpsmum · 29/12/2023 23:48

Think a Fitbit is a great idea you'll soon get used to it. I never ever wanted one and was given one for Christmas last year and I absolutely love it

jhy · 30/12/2023 00:12

I wish I was a disciplined spender! I have the complete opposite problem.
Things I've brought myself recently (last few days) & all of it I could have lived with out:
2 candles
1 diffuser
Dressing gown
Underwear
Gym wear (you mention you want to lose weight so some nice gym wear could be a start!)
Boots
Shower gel & body mist
Candle holder
Socks
A coat

I am eyeing up some cute bow earrings, don't need them. Like them but
I'm going to try and do no spend January so trying to make the last few days of December 'good'!

Outandabout43 · 30/12/2023 00:20

Shark flex style. Have wanted one for over a year, but I'm like you OP, when I have money I just think I don't really need it and buy things for the kids

headache · 30/12/2023 00:32

I’ve just spent a little over that on myself tonight. I bought
a pair of nice boots I could wear to work, dress up or dress down, they were £60 off in the sale
a new bag, not like £300 designer but a little over £100 my old one is falling apart and looks tatty so I needed a new work one

CarrieMoonbeams · 30/12/2023 00:34

What a generous gift!

I'd buy:

£40 - A Le Creuset milk jug and sugar bowl set, in Volcanic (I know it's kind of sensible but it's SO cute and would make me smile every time!)

£30 - 2 or 3 nice plants for the garden.

£120 - a framed print of or from a place that meant something special to me and DH.

£10 - I'd keep £10 back to buy myself a bunch of flowers from the supermarket when I particularly needed them at some point during the year.

Daisy12Maisie · 30/12/2023 00:37

If I had £200 to spend I would get a nice hair cut. Or use it for the next few hair cuts.

forcedfun · 30/12/2023 00:55

Bath oils, scented candles, books, more books, a few more books, jewellery, books, stationery, a manicure, some plants, a new swimming costume, oh and maybe a couple of books ...

Bestyearever2024 · 30/12/2023 00:57

I'd definitely use it to add books to my kindle or audible or both. 🙂

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 30/12/2023 00:58

I would have a massage, a new pair of trainers and a nice outfit. Enjoy OP.

MsMaraschino · 30/12/2023 01:01

I’d spend it all on Audible.
