What is the worst accident you’ve had?

Thought this would be interesting to read peoples stories.

All mine have generally involved sharp objects. Knives, graters, rocks!

I think the worst was walking in Spain across a very sharp and rocky rocks when I tripped (wasn’t clever enough to be wearing shoes, I was on the beach before I decided to walk), I proceeded to slice the top of my big toe off on the rock. With toe flapping and blood dripping I somehow had to hop to get back and have top of my toe reattached. That wasn’t much fun.

A full jar of peanut butter fell out the cupboard. I had my hands full so attempted to break its fall with my foot. It just broke my toe instead.

BeyondMyWits · 27/12/2023 21:29

I fell on my stairs at home, was near the bottom thankfully. But my bum hit the edge of the bottom stair, partially detached a buttock muscle, knee went into my face and a front tooth ended up imbeded in it, and there was much blood.

Sprained my ankle in Spalding. I don’t have a very exciting life (which can be a blessing).

And it's so flat there too!

BiffandChip1 · 27/12/2023 21:32

After a particularly heavy night out, I went into the bathroom to be sick and passed out while doing so. Fell to the left of the toilet where the radiator is... second degree burns to my back. No idea how long I was there. Still have a good 8cm scar 4 weeks on. Worst pain I've ever felt.. despite 3 chn in 4 years. (Or maybe the epidural was needed for the back burn too).

BiffandChip1 · 27/12/2023 21:34

Oh and the pain a week later when it had got infected and had to be cleaned had me screaming and sobbing. Absolutely vile.

glossylippsthickhips · 27/12/2023 21:40

Not really. I'm careful

Gliblet · 27/12/2023 21:41

@LaughingCat I'm not dyspraxic, but... 😆

  • Spent a day as a 4ish yr old sliding on ice and then discovered I could slide just as well on the floor in a shop if I took my shoes off and kept my socks on. Found the one damaged section of floor and broke my leg.
  • Bumped into a boy at school (he was running), fell backwards awkwardly and broke the other leg.
  • Fell on gravel and scraped all the skin off the palm of my hand (as well as filling it with embedded gravel)
  • Sliced my hand open deeply enough to need stitches on the lid of a tin of rice pudding
  • Shut my finger in the car door cutting it open down to the bone
  • Broke a front tooth in half playing rugby
  • Went for a nice family day out at a wildlife park and got attacked by a chicken (little bastard drew blood)
  • Walking through a shopping centre with DH somehow managed to fold my flip flop in half under my foot resulting in my foot shooting out from under me and dropping me knee first like a sack of spanners into an inept scissor split. Bruised my knee so badly I couldn't walk for days and pulled my groin.
  • Walked downstairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, missed a step, slid down the last three or four steps and slammed kneecap first into a doorframe at the bottom of the stairs. Fractured kneecap and ligament damage.
Mylobsterteapot · 27/12/2023 21:46

Fell off a horse over its ears. I landed on my back and knocked myself out . Then the silly horse backed away, with my foot still in the stirrup. I pulled all the ligaments in my knee, which was then same fetching shade of purple as my back.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 27/12/2023 21:46

We moved to Oz and were settling in to the Aussie way of life. One morning I woke up to dds who were ready for the day. I was walking down the stairs and slipped, smashing my right leg against the wall. I shouted to dh that I’d broken my leg, he asked how I knew, I heard it snap like a branch. We called an ambulance I was whisked off to A&E where they realigned my leg. I had X-rays to tell my I broke my tib and fib in 3 places. Two weeks later I had the surgery as it was that swollen.
I now have two metal plates and 19 screws in my right leg.

weegiemum · 27/12/2023 21:48

Tripped over the cat in the living room and on the way down got my ankle caught in acrylic yarn. Open fracture plus dislocation of my left ankle plus lots of yarn embedded in the wound. Needed 2 ambulances to get me out of the room through the patio doors and a 3 hour operation to fix my ankle, was in hospital for 10 days! Definitely the worst!

mewkins · 27/12/2023 21:50

Knocking myself trying to put the loft ladder back up.

louderthan · 27/12/2023 21:51

Fell off my pony head first into concrete when I was 15. Broken collarbone, fractured skull, two days in an induced coma and a week in intensive care.

During lockdown, a large commercial waste skip fell on me. Massive whiplash injuries and delayed treatment due to the pandemic. No doctor knew how I was still alive in A&E as my major neck veins had twisted and buckled. Also damage to nerves serving my arm and damaged rib. So I had surgery, and it went wrong. The surgeon paralysed my hand and arm via nerve damage, and the operation didn't even fix the vascular problem. He has been retired and is mortified. I needed two more surgeries and then it was decided nothing can be done about the paralysis. I am having my fingers amputated next year but I have cancer in the other hand that is under treatment now so going day by day.

A toss up between nearly biting through my tongue when I was 4 years old (I was jumping down the stairs, copying my older brothers and had my tongue between my teeth as I landed🤢). I needed 7 stiches,I still have the scar. Or being thrown from a horse when I was 13 and fracturing 2 ribs. On reflection,I think the horse incident was actually more painful.

I've never "met" anyone else who's had to have their tongue stitched! I don't have a scar though.

sanityisamyth · 27/12/2023 21:58

Tried desperately to shut a glass hatch door (between the kitchen and dining room) to stop my sister spraying aerosols at me to choke me. I missed the wooden frame and punched my hand straight through the glass. I gouged a 1" square piece of skin off my elbow and hit an artery. There was blood all up the walls and I passed out. My other sister managed to get us both into the bathroom and lock the door (only door with a lock) and stop the bleeding. The scar makes me feel sick to look at it and I can't bear anyone touching it. I had loads of other horrific injuries (and near misses) at her hands but that was the worst accident of my causing I think.

Mummylovesmonkeys · 27/12/2023 22:01

This:

Don't.

On holiday in Wales, we went to a beer festival in the town. Went back to the cottage we were staying at, and it was pouring with rain. The garden was very secluded, I was very drunk, and decided it would be a good idea to 'Dance (almost) Naked in the Rain' Slipped on the wet grass, and landed with my face on the stone lawn edging. 40 mile ambulance ride to hospital,10 stitches in my right cheek, and 2 glorious black eyes, with a 40 mile taxi ride back. (By the way, I was, at the time, a 60year old Granny!)

Bloody hell! Sending you my best wishes.

Spilt a whole kettle of boiling water over me whilst filling up a hot water bottle and ended up with third degree burns and skin grafts from my chest down to my ankle and over a month in a burns unit. Never experienced anything more painful than the daily bandage changes.

We had an old fashioned sun lounger - a metal frame with springs connecting to the bit you lie on (70s I think) the spring popped off the frame and into my leg , it was a coil and the hook part inside my leg. So I was attached to the sunbed. My mum called an ambulance who called the fire brigade to cut me off it.
I don't actually remember it hurting but it was all very dramatic and I went to hospital in an ambulance for them to remove the spring from my leg

Bluelightbaby · 27/12/2023 22:07

Fell off my horse, but foot got stuck in the stirrup, he bolted and dragged me under him in a gallop. Fracture vertebrae’s, broke every rib on the left, pneumothorax and flail chest, ruptured spleen, perforated bladder and bowel…..

also had an abusive husband so multiple broken bones over the years

Penguin34 · 27/12/2023 22:08

Actually worse was that when I misjudged draining the potatoes and poured boiling water straight from the hob on my feet. Had 4th degree burns and couldn't walk for a while (impossible as I was bandaged up anyway) the pain was immense but the burns unit were great. Mr feet are all scarred now

Same happened to me with my feet. Worse pain ever

Being electrocuted as a kid. The force made me disconnect and fly off and hit the wall and bounce off onto floor. I was too scared to tell anyone. It really hurt.

I grabbed an electric cattle fence once as a kid! It's awful! I couldn't even let go it was so strong.
