Lego for adults

I got some money for Christmas which I want to spend on Lego. I have quite a few Harry Potter sets already. I want something that's a bit more of a challenging build. Budget of up to £200. I'm considering either the newish whole Hogwarts set, or the book shop. Does anyone have any thoughts on how fun these are to build, or have any other recommendations? Thanks

I’ve got the friends central perk set, doctor who tardis and the Big Bang theory set. Have only built the friends set so far. I’ve had them for ages but i also covet the bookshop. I’m also quite taken with the medieval blacksmith set. It depends on your interests though, have a look through the website to see what takes your fancy. Then look elsewhere to find it cheaper 😆

The treehouse as well. I’d love that.

I like the look of some of the Lego Architecture range. I also want the Eiffel Tower.

My daughter (18) has the bookshop and loved doing it. There is a lot in the same series that link together. She got the Jazz Club last year and the Town Plaza out of her money. She buys them new on eBay.

Neveraga1n · 27/12/2023 18:08

I have several of the flowers, not exactly challenging but I like them.

froomeonthebroom · 27/12/2023 18:10

Get Assembly Square if it's still available. Really great build, loads of detail.

Alwaystired23 · 27/12/2023 18:10

I had the pac man set, and some of it was tricky/fiddly, if you're after a challenge.

I have lots of sets, and still have the tree house to build!

Op i have a bad yearning for the Concorde model.....but I'm very short on space sigh. Also love the architecture range

The modular buildings are the most fun to build and the most beautiful to enjoy once built, so from your selection I’d go for the bookshop. All the sets marked 18+ offer a more challenging build experience and reward you with clever building techniques and lovely details. The bookshop is super, and really two builds in one as you get the bookshop AND the townhouse next door. I have it and really enjoyed building it. I’ve got Christmas money for Lego too, so I am currently going through the same selection process!

Sorry, the clip is a little video tour of all the bookshop sections

SuitYouSir · 27/12/2023 18:12

We’ve just done the modular Boutique Hotel and it’s gorgeous.

MulledWineBeMine · 27/12/2023 18:16

I like the look of Grimwalds.

though what I love best is buying a big load from private sales that have the instructions & making as many of the sets as I can.

The tranquil garden was a fun build . I really really like Rivendell but I fear it's too complicated for me and I'll lose interest .
I also have a few plants / flowers / houses and my next buy will be the botanical garden .

Needmorelego · 27/12/2023 18:20

Do you plan to build and display? The various flower sets are very pretty and interesting to build - but they are big dust traps !
The modular builds are great. There's a lot of detail inside.
I'm not into Harry Potter but the big Hogwarts sets are very much a lot of the same colour bricks - which personally I find a bit dull.
If I had a spare £200 I would definitely go for a modular. The Bookshop is a nice one.
I personally am waiting excitedly for the Jan 1st releases and sending £9 on this little guy....

We have loads of Lego and are an all adult household . Our son bought me the Lego colosseum for Christmas , we already have the Taj Mahal and the large Eiffel Tower . Last year I did the Motorised Lighthouse (£250) and that is really nice , we have it in a display case in my husbands office .

I just came here to suggest Concorde. Although it might not be your bag, and she takes up a lot of space- she is beautiful.

I got DH the US Office Lego set for Christmas. It’s still sitting in his Christmas present pile, I wish he’d hurry up and get it out so I can help build it!

shellyleppard · 27/12/2023 18:34

Definitely 🙂 i was very lucky and flew on her when I was 9 years old.... the experience has stayed with me for my whole life ❤️

TheMousePipes · 27/12/2023 18:37

I love the winter village sets - we have the gingerbread house, the train, Santa’s visit and the elf clubhouse.
Dd has just finished building the bonsai tree, that’s a really nice set too.

ChicoryDip · 27/12/2023 18:41

It's a bit more than you wanted to spend but the Natural History museum looks fun to do. I have it on my list for when I'm a lady of leisure!

AlexCabot · 27/12/2023 18:44

I bought DH the Home Alone house last year. It's absolutely amazing.

Worth investing in the additional light set too, it's been our Christmas centrepiece!

Ribeebie · 27/12/2023 18:46

Loved the hogwarts castle build, liked the little details. Concorde looks great, got it as a family treat at xmas but not started yet

Also assembly square lovely and Vincent van Gogh starry night meant to be a more challenging build.

Also like look of natural history museum but that's a bit more expensive. Hoping for that as my next big build!

hattie43 · 27/12/2023 19:01

Book shop has been retired . Have been searching and can't find it on uk sites .

bluechameleon · 28/12/2023 22:33

Thanks everyone for the advice. I decided to go for the bookshop because lots of you said that range is fun to build. I think all the towers on Hogwarts might get a bit dull. I'll let you know how I get on!
