Is there reliable evidence of Biden's cognitive impairment?

I've seen quite a fews videos of Biden's confusion and physical frailty that make me question his cognitive abilities. He seems to have moments of senility and confusion that are worrying. I was chatting to a friend about this and she said that all these videos are made up by Trump supporters. I've tried searching but it's hard to find "evidence" from objective sources. Just wondering if I've been taken in by Trumpists or if there really is objective evidence from sources that aren't wildly biased?!

I don't know a lot about US politics. Hate Trump but had also come to conclusion that Biden isn't fit to be president. Interested to find out what the real truth is about Biden's health.

It’s not silly to say it’s a Republican strategy to ruin the public’s view of Biden. It’s an obvious truth. The problem is that what happened on Jan 6 was so terrifying. You think we Americans think we are more important than we are; I think the level of global destabilization of a second Trump presidency would be felt by all of us

You can’t blame the republicans for Biden’s lack of capacity!!
The republicans may be guilty of many things, but you can not and must not blame them for this. It’s called gas lighting.

If the Democrats want to win the next election they need to take responsibility for replacing Biden with a coherent, charismatic leader with vision and direction. They can not stumble through another election, and subsequent years should they win with an elderly frail man with serious cognitive decline blaming the republicans for his failure and lack of capacity.

Even I am embarrassed to watch Biden speak or fall over or mix up wars or any number of gaffes he makes which can be viewed live around the world, at any one time, and leaves others with the impression the US is weak, defenceless and as incapable as their leader. It’s mortifying to watch.

PenguinBall · 27/12/2023 07:10

It's a republican strategy to highlight the truth about their opponent, as is the role of any opposition. It's not as if they're making these things up. I don't doubt that some deep fakes etc have been created but there is also plenty of truth in what is said.

All candidates have their Achilles heel, it's up to the democrats to decide whether Biden's is too great to overcome/gives too much ammunition to the opposition.

When everyone in my country's leadership is too out of touch with their people and too decrepit to keep their shit together I'm gonna say it.

It doesn't excuse you making ageist remarks on here @flowerchild2000 its against Talk Guidelines which means you don't just post what's in your head if it's offensive.

I agree another trump presidency would be terrible for the world. So the democrats must act and choose a candidate who can actually win against him ie not Hillary or Joe...

But he IS old. It is not ageism to acknowledge someone’s age! He is 81 yeas old with corresponding mental decline, many people at his age will be in old peoples homes or have meals on wheels etc. It isn’t his fault he is old and frail. It happens to all of us. It just so happens we are not running for president, which appears ludicrous to others around the world, given the nature of the job.

What does overcoming a stutter have to do with forgetting someone had actually died, saying that your own son died in a manner that he didnt or not knowing where to go in a place that you should be fully familiar with though? I get that in years past some of his speech issues would have been due to the stutter, but now it just seems like old age. It might not even be dementia, just normal age related decline, but he is just too old for the job. There should be an upper age limit to be president.

Superfans · 27/12/2023 09:33

He won’t do live debates so draw your own conclusion from that. Totally legitimate to ask about his mental faculties. I know of very few people his age who are able to sustain the level of functioning needed for that job.

Was moreso referring to when people just totally freeze as a learned protective mechanism, or speak utter gibberish like they are having a medical event. That can be 100% related to stutter. Forgetting your son is dead, if this is the case, is obviously not related to stutter.

It’s been publicly acknowledged for years that Biden is in cognitive decline; we can’t medically label him but it’s very obvious if you watch many of his speeches. He needs to step down. My understanding is he won’t. It’s silly to say this is a republican effort to remove him, Biden should not have been made president in the first place, he does not have adequate mental capacity to run the country safely.

Really? The US economy is doing very well. Biden has got $1trillion for infrastructure projects post covid. To the envy of socialists and social democrats in the EU. You think he should never have berm given the job , despite being elected with a healthy majority?

OK.

It's not agist and I stand by it. Most of them are unfit because their mental capacities have declined which is a well documented fact. Why is this happening? They are elderly. Is it ageist to say a 7yo is too young to be a member of government? It's exactly the same. They need to have limits on how long those fuckers can serve too, not just the presidency, which doesn't hold as much power as the other appointments. I think you need to reevaluate.

ohfook · 27/12/2023 16:48

I think this is the problem with the two party system in the us, particularly one where campaign trails need such huge amounts of funding, in that people have to mail their colours to the mast and just accept whatever they get.

I don't think Biden is a good guy but he clearly has good pr but it beggars belief that in such an amazingly diverse country of over 300 million people, they best two they could come up with to run it are trump and Biden. I bet there's hundreds of people who would do a better job but unfortunately just don't have the financial backing.

I sometimes dry up in mid conversation and I'm a lot younger than Biden. Trump isn't subject to the same scrutiny because his bizarre ramblings are already priced in I suppose?

So do i but I'm not President of the USA
Tbf neither Biden or Trump should be running for President again.

Indeed my parents are both 81_and whilst neither of them have a diagnosis of Dementia ,I had certainly noticed a decline in their mental ability over recent years its not ageist ,its what happens as people get older

OK.

Most people of average IQ would expect the president of a leading superpower with nuclear weapons to have a coherent, mentally agile leader. This is the bare minimum one would expect!

Unfortunately he has very little ability to prevent his demise, as cognitive decline can not be prevented with treatment.

So I think that along with the disgraceful antics of his son Hunter means he absolutely should step aside with dignity.

lesdeluges · 27/12/2023 19:09

Where has Kamela been, or am I the only one who doesn't recall seeing or hearing her since the election?

Anyway it baffles me that the Dems have no other candidate ready, but maybe misplaced loyalty to the incumbent prevents that. Which is a bit irresponsible IMV.

She comes out every once in a while and spouts some word salad. I seem to remember Biden put her in charge of the border but considering the disaster that is the border these days, I don't think she actually did or plans to do anything. If even democratic governors are calling out the government for their inaction then it's bad.

I get that.

Biden may be old but calling someone a decrepit fucker is 100% not acceptable (which is exactly how that poster described some people in the older age category) I can't stand how ageism is tolerated on here, it's vile and disrespectful.

I'm not defending Biden's lack of mental acuity but there are ways of expressing that without lapsing into ageist insults like decrepit fuckers.

cardibach · 27/12/2023 21:09

What has his son’s behaviour got to do with anything @Newchapterbeckons ?

Southpoint · 27/12/2023 21:19

Unbelievable excuses and ridiculous that people still think Biden is up to the job. I would have more respect for the Democrats if they were honest. Neither Trump or Biden should be running for president. Kamala is also not up to the job as VP. Come on America you can do better.

Abhannmor · 28/12/2023 09:51

But can they ? I mean time was the GOP had someone halfway decent like Romney or McCain. What a shower of mediocrities , con artists and delinquents they are now.

I'd actually vote for the likes of Romney over some of the Dems people gush over. Newsom and Pritzker terrify me. Don't know much about Whitmer. Maybe I should keep it that way !

Harvestfestivalknickers · 28/06/2024 23:17

I can't fathom why he wants to do another 4 years at his age? Why would you want all the scrutiny of people waiting for your next gaffe, your next fall or your next mistake? I always think his wife looks so anxious when they are on the world stage. Surely he's earned the right to relax and enjoy his retirement?

You need to go off and google all about deep fakes.

And then when you've done that, also understand why there are warnings about how ill prepared the UK is for our forthcoming general election to be swayed by deepfake propaganda.
