Good Morning Everyone? What's everyone up to for Boxing Day?

lucysmam · 26/12/2023 10:30

I'm in my kitchen spot, have been here a while now, browsing my new books (Murdle and Merry Midwinter), making notes for next year before I forget, and scrolling t'interweb.

I've done a load of bedding washing (dd2 put her new stuff on yesterday), and am getting up to wash up the few pots there are in a mo.

Today is party food & leftovers picky day so I'll pop the oven on for the few extra bits I've got to cook & get dressed while it warms up.

Once they're cooked it's "help yourself to what you want" and mostly a day of chilling doing not much. I'm not good at doing nothing so will pick up one of my many crafty projects or my books again until I get ready for Panto later on.

What about all of you? 🎄

Had a lie in. Caught up on TV. Got a buffet ready for this evening; roast gammon with turkey, lots of other things in the fridge. Turned the leftover cheesy leeks into cheesy cauliflower and leek soup for lunch. Divided up rest of turkey for meals in Jan / Feb and put in the freezer sliced up ready to defrost as and when. Been to lay flowers for my Mum at the Crematorium, now have an 8 mile walk with pub stop off planned. Board Games later on this evening.

Beignet · 26/12/2023 14:13

Had a lie in this morning then a lovely long walk with the dog. Cheese and biscuits for lunch, followed by a board game with children and I'm now soaking in a hot bath while mumsnetting.

We are going to family this evening for a curry. I won't be drinking as I have to go back to work tomorrow :-(

Simonjt · 26/12/2023 14:26

We’re dog sitting for our neighbours, we have a dog, he usually completely ignores us, he is not a person dog. But as he’s jealous he’s pretending he likes us and keeps sitting with us, just so the neighbours dog can’t sit with us, little bugger. He’s a lovely staffy, so he’s a people pleaser, so our son is enjoying having a very willing playmate.

We’ve got the lion king on at the moment, this morning we went to an indoor play centre for a bit, hell on earth, but it does mean the small people are now calm and tired.

OnlyYellowRoses · 26/12/2023 14:28

Had a lie in with the plan to then get up and tidy the house, I've just woken up to find DH has put all the washing on and already tidied so he's very much in my good books now Smile Plan today is get children ready to be collected by their dads, then lay on sofa, watch films, eat more roasties and walk dog later. Work again tomorrow so for today, I shall be doing nothing and quietly loving that!

maddiemookins16mum · 26/12/2023 14:29

We got up late, it was gone 9am which is late for us! DH made bubble and squeak patties with poached eggs and bacon.
Our friends have left to drive home and I’ve had a tidy through. I even did a washing as somehow we seem to have used dozens of tea towels etc over the last three days plus I washed the table linen and some other towels.

I’m going to read my new book in a bit and we’re having Coconut and chilli prawn curry for tea later and watching CTM (as we never watched it last night).

PrincessHoneysuckle · 26/12/2023 14:32

Got up late and nipped to parents for a cuppa.
Cooking a beef dinner for me dh and ds and having lots of red wine and snacks later.

Whattheduck · 26/12/2023 14:33

Dd and her boyfriend have taken the dog for a long walk
Dh is trying to watch a film on Netflix but it’s playing up
I’m lying on the sofa in the dining room listening to a podcast called Things are about to get weird
Off to my fil’s later for Boxing Day tea and to exchange presents

SnowRoomAtTheInn · 26/12/2023 14:36

Lazy day. Lie-in, big leftovers brunch, now eating trifle and watching Beauty & The Beast Grin.

Teens still in PJs and playing Super Mario next door. DH is drinking Buck’s Fizz and putting together DD’s new dressing table <that’ll end well Grin>

Planning on a bath soon then off to my Mum’s at 6pm for a big, extended family dinner.

I love Boxing Day/St Stephens more than Christmas itself, I think. All the good bits without the fuss and faff.

LaChienneDesFromages · 26/12/2023 14:49

I’m very nosey and love reading about everyone’s plans.

We had a post-Christmas Day tidy up and DH, DD’s14 and 15, DS12 and I took the dogs to the beach. DDog1 was very keen on a Boxing Day dip but DDog2 refused even to get her paws wet.

Goose sandwiches for lunch. It’ll be goose sandwiches for lunch until 2038.

Spoke to BIL/SILs and cousins in Connecticut and Belgrade, where there is no snow. French cousins are skiing and WhatsApped us from Val D’Isere where we finally saw Christmas snow!

We are doing an hour of chores (bills, laundry, renewing kids’ passports, furtive online sales shopping.) Then I’m looking forward to a game of Warhammer Monopoly, Mary Berry’s Christmas cake and an hour with my book. DD14 hates board games so plans to make a start on building her theremin.

It’s ham, jacket potatoes and cauliflower cheese for supper. I’m a greeder and can’t wait.

dudsville · 26/12/2023 14:53

Loving all the accounts of lie ins! It's very much a cosy indoor day here. Stayed in bed with a pot of tea until quite late, had a bath. Did some laundry including handwashing a cardigan, slowly tidied up some random things (my makup and skin care drawer, a closet, another drawer). For a very late breakfast I had turkey and the last of the left over veg. Just making a very late lunch of soup with the last of the turkey and some fresh veg. Dinner will no doubt be cheese with wine - I want to return to my low fat diet after this week so I have a lot of cheese to get through (I've already stopped with the festive sweets)! I've also done a little online shopping, some shoes and socks. We're about to reconvene in the living room for another film.

BettyBakesCakes · 26/12/2023 14:56

Had a lazy lie in with a nice cuppa. Got up and sorted the presents into slightly neater piles so I could hoover. Chucked a wash on. Had a lovely bath and tidied out my toiletry drawer. Made bubble and squeak for lunch, Banoffee pie for after and now having a nice cuppa snuggled on sofa under a blanket in my pjs.

U2HasTheEdge · 26/12/2023 15:02

I got up around 11.00 am and have just lazed around really.

Buffet is almost ready. We do Jacket Potatoes, then there is left over Turkey, Stuffing, Pigs in Blankets etc. We also have cheese boards and lots of other snacks and left over trifle and Squidgy Chocolate Log.

Will open the wine in a bit and watch a film soon.

Mulhollandmagoo · 26/12/2023 15:18

My daughter is trashing the place playing with her new toys. My husband is working, I am sat on the sofa watching TV! No cooking today, it's what ever is in the fridge, leftover meat, pork pies, crisps etc. I am fried, and back at work tomorrow so taking the opportunity to relax a little.

Diymesss · 26/12/2023 15:19

Spent two hours cleaning and tidying in the morning and went to shop to get milk in. Had a quick cup of tea before small kids got dropped off (I’m divorced from their dad). Have been playing with presents/have had them sat on me while watching tv since. Soon will make them some tea using leftovers from yesterday - ham, roast potatoes, parsnips etc. They will
probably refuse to eat it. Then it’s more playing before the long winddown to their bedtime between 9-10pm usually

MeinKraft · 26/12/2023 15:52

I have spent all day in my pyjamas. Lying on the sofa now although I did play with the kids new toys, clean the kitchen and make a second Christmas dinner with yesterdays leftovers earlier. Hoping to get both kids to bed by 9 then I can have some cava and watch Ghosts.

piscofrisco · 26/12/2023 15:55

My oldest dd turns 18 today and dh turns 47. Been for a big lunch and they are now asleep! Dd will go out later with her friends to the pub. Dh will probably shuffle down after his nap and we might have a few drinks and play some games with dd2 and her pal who is coming round.
Boxing Day is frankly a rubbish day for a birthday but dd has had a big party earlier in the month and has two more big nights out planned over the next few days so she is happy with her lunch today and it's been a nice chilled day.

Daisylou24 · 26/12/2023 15:56

We’ve been to Horsey this morning to see the seals, back home now for a relaxing afternoon of games, TV and leftovers .

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 26/12/2023 16:01

We got up quite late for us, about half 8 and had a nice breakfast of scrambled eggs on toast with smoked salmon and avocado. DH made it and he NEVER cooks so that was nice.

DS(14) didn’t get up until about 10 and made his own breakfast then he’s done nothing but play on his F1 game with his new PlayStation steering wheel. I don’t mind as he only had a little go with it yesterday and spent the rest of the day with us which I’m grateful for as most of my friends’ teenagers spent most of the day in their rooms.

DH and I took the dog for a swim in his favourite river, which he loved but I’d have preferred to do more walking myself. We were going to go to a nice cafe for coffee and cake but it was closed, they just hadn’t updated their opening hours on Google.

DS out sausage rolls etc on while we were out so I had my traditional Boxing Day lunch of hot sausage rolls, Pringles and pickled onions. DH is now watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I have a still damp dog sleeping in my lap, which would be fine if he was actually a lap dog but he’s a 30kg Labrador 😂.

DH has just suggested a mince pie and a brew and then DS will make honey roast ham, homemade chips and peas for a late tea (he loves to cook and did the full Christmas dinner yesterday!).

DH is going to watch the Liverpool game on TV later so I might go on the cross trainer as I must have eaten a million calories over the past 3 days!

DilemmaDelilah · 26/12/2023 17:05

Good evening @lucysmam . Today I had a shower and popped a load of washing into the machine before we went out to our local seaside town to have lunch, and then to sit and look at the sea. Then we walked back to the car - not too far, and popped into Sainsburys for a very quick look around the fresh produce to see if there were any bargains left. By the time we got home after that I was exhausted (still getting over cancer treatment) so we are sitting watching a cheesy Christmas movie, before popping some pigs in blankets into the air fryer. It will be an early night tonight.

Crunchymum · 26/12/2023 17:11

Kids went out for a long bike ride and I've done Christmas dinner #2 (well actually #3 as we had a beef roast on Saturday!!)

Other than that we've not done much at all. Although actually being dressed on Boxing day is an achievement for me 😂

We've had lots of new toys to keep the little people busy and I've enjoyed it being very slow paced today.

Thewokewokingwarrior · 26/12/2023 10:56

It's my birthday and I've opened my beautiful gifts received lots of nice texts and will go to town to pick up some Boxing day bargains, have dinner out and then back to watch Fargo.

Happy birthday @Thewokewokingwarrior 🥳 It's my birthday too!

marychristmas44 · 26/12/2023 17:23

Toddler got me up at 6 so I passed her to dh to deal with for a bit and got a few extra hours sleep. Then I got up and he went back to bed. True teamwork 😂

Once we'd had breakfast and put some washing on we went for a walk and visited my mum. Then I made an attempt on the tidying while dd napped. Once she was up we went out in the car with dh and dog for a stroll in the woods with a flask of hot chocolate. Then home for cheese, bread, crisps and all the other carbs.

Currently having a fruity cider and watching the Lion King. A nice chilled Boxing Day.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 26/12/2023 17:51

My 50th birthday today, friends and family visited this morning bearing gifts. This afternoon DD12 and I went to the sales. She had Xmas money to spend but somehow managed to wangle that I paid for her new clothes!

Chill time now before work again tomorrow.

gocompare · 26/12/2023 18:10

I've cleaned up
DH cooked another mini roast
