Turkey sandwiches for lunch

DisforDarkChocolate · 26/12/2023 09:07

Today's lunch will be leftovers, hopefully there won't be much left after that.

The mountain of sweets and biscuits is another matter!

TheTripThatWasnt · 26/12/2023 09:11

Bubble and squeak today, pie tomorrow, probably a massive curry the day after, which will have a couple of portions left to freeze.

mrsfeatherbottom · 26/12/2023 09:11

Boxing Day pie - leftover meat, stuffing and veg in a white sauce with mashed potato on top. We have it every year.

DilemmaDelilah · 26/12/2023 09:13

Didn't do Christmas dinner this year... but usually
cold turkey, ham and salad
Turkey fricassee
turkey and ham pie if there is enough
turkey and vegetable soup
bubble and squeak with the leftover veg
that's about it!

My grandmother used to do a turkey curry on boxing day... That includes left over Christmas pudding. It became the stuff of legend - but not in a good way! She was a terrible cook, bless her.

AlisonDonut · 26/12/2023 09:14

The only left overs I have are sprouts and broccoli already cooked and frozen. Which I'll be making into a bubble and squeak later in the week.

Catsknowbest · 26/12/2023 09:16

Not sure if this'll help as we didn't have turkey but with the beef and gammon, cold cuts today with bake at home rolls, then making meat and potato pies tomorrow

senua · 26/12/2023 09:16

Bubble and squeak, of course. It's as much of a tradition as the turkey dinner.

ExpensiveDecorations · 26/12/2023 09:23

We didn't have huge amounts of leftovers as we're not keen on them. Gave most of them to guests to take home and freezing the rest (just the turkey) today, it'll get shredded and served as a stir fry or similar sometime in the next few weeks.

Summerishere123 · 26/12/2023 09:24

Our left overs are "wet" veg like carrot and Swede mash, cauliflower cheese and red cabbage. We are just going to do another roast tomorrow night after work.

Icantfindanewname · 26/12/2023 09:31

Every year we have a pie. Shop bought short crust at the bottom, top with cuts of pork, chicken, pigs in blankets, stuffing, top with buttered leeks, pour over remains of Jaime's get ahead gravy, top with shop bought puff pastry and bake. Takes about 10 minutes to prep and 30-40 minutes to cook. Sorted. Will be accompanied by microwaved left over veg from yesterday. I am SO over cooking for a while!

TeenDivided · 26/12/2023 09:33

Freezing slices to get out overheat week or so.
Turkey reheat.
We don't have 'left overs' we have planned extras to cut down on cooking over Christmas week.

Whatineed · 26/12/2023 09:37

I've made up four full roast dinners with veg, gravy, etc into glass dishes with leftovers from Sunday nights dinner and yesterday's Christmas lunch. They are now in the freezer so DS and I will enjoy a few Christmas lunches when we go back to work next week, saving me time and money.

Planned extras 😂😂😂

Teenagersscarethelivinshitoutofme · 26/12/2023 09:43

Only got some meat/stuffing/potatoes left from lunch so that will be eaten today. Don't have any chocolate/sweets, didn't buy any. Cheese is no bother and will be eaten over the week.

Same here. The kitchen closes down for about a week after the Big Lunch! It's "help yourself" thereafter.

Yep we do the same.

TrashedSofa · 26/12/2023 10:02

What do you have left over and do you have freezer space? Cos if you do, then you can stock the freezer with curries and/or stew. But if it all needs to go sooner, you might look at things like stir fries or bubble and squeak.

OfMiceandWomen · 26/12/2023 10:03

We use the left over turkey and ham pie, turkey soup then freeze any meats that are left.
I make a crumble out of the leftover Christmas pudding and will put the remaining cranberry sauce in as well. Rum sauce served with it.
We have very little wastage of food.

AnnaMagnani · 26/12/2023 10:10

I planned this year to have minimal leftovers.

Am now feeling quite sad as apart from one bubble and squeak, there aren't any.

Normally I portion everything, bung it in the freezer and we carry on eating the leftovers into March.

ExpensiveDecorations · 26/12/2023 10:12

I like minimal leftovers, back to normal food from today.

Snackpocket · 26/12/2023 10:12

We didn’t host but did the turkey so brought some home. Already eaten that as had turkey sandwiches for breakfast! Off to my parents today so might get some buffet leftovers to take home. I love roast leftovers, we usually just fry it all in a big pan and have it with fresh pigs in blankets.

StragglyTinsel · 26/12/2023 10:15

I’m doing Yorkshire puddings and giant pigs in blankets (normal sausages wrapped in bacon - half way through the cooking process) to go with the leftovers that aren’t going into soup.

i bought the smallest turkey crown I could so I don’t have tonnes of leftover meat. A lot of cabbage though. I’ve frozen some of that already.

Babla · 26/12/2023 10:16
