Anyone up? In so much pain and don’t know what to do

Long time poster; name change as details are outing.

Woke up this morning feeling like I’d pulled a hip flexor. Context: day before, my father’s funeral and got to bed very late on a makeshift bed. Ouchy, but thought would be fine for a bath and stretches.

Have a long family lunch with elderly relatives. My left hip is sore, but OK. Sit in the car for two hours to drive home and it gets worse, so have hot Epsom salt bath and do relevant stretches and get massage gun out.

Fast forward to now and any position is absolutely agony. Just tried to go to the loo and impossible to sit down or put weight on my left leg. Can’t roll over in bed or sit up. I’ve managed an hour or two of sleep and no idea what to do. Left hip is absolutely excruciating. Worse than childbirth.

As husband rescues me screaming in pain from the bathroom and says A&E in the morning but that seems dramatic and I’m worried about wasting people’s time.

I’m scared though as I had a microdiscetomy on my L4 L5 and I’m worried this pain is somehow related.

If you’ve got this far, please tell me what the best route for medical help is, or there is some hope this will magically stop.

Or send a handhold as I’ve just said goodbye to my Dad and all that’s got me through the last four weeks is the thought of a lovely quiet Christmas at home with my 8yo DS and DH (after last year I was recovering from spinal surgery / wrist fracture and the Christmas before that my boy had appendicitis).

Personally if you are in that much pain I would call 111 now

what pain relief have you taken ?

You could call 111 for further advice

DyslexicPoster · 23/12/2023 02:32

I'd agree. If you've had disk surgery I'd be cautious. I have a disc pushing right into my cord and it's all a general mess in there.

Any tingling or numbness especially so. If you can get into any position pain free, does your leg feel normal?

WhereIsBebèsChambre · 23/12/2023 02:32

111 and let them decide, did you get to the loo? If so how painful was it the actual 'task' definitely speak to someone this eve.

Jenda · 23/12/2023 02:33

Oh I'm sorry, what awful timing. I think you need to be seen now though. I'd call 111 as appreciate you might not be able to get to A&E while DS in bed. I really hope you get comfortable soon

Painpanic · 23/12/2023 02:38

Thank you. I’m fully dosed up and poor husband got woken up for a fresh hot water bottle an hour ago.

I have prescription anti inflammatories, and paracetamol. Plus a diazepam which has helped the spasm sensation.

Thank you. A tiny amount of leg pain this morning but that’s not unusual as my disc was wrapped around my sciatic nerve for a couple of years pre-surgery.

Thank you. Everyone is in desperate need of sleep - end of term exhaustion plus my Dad died suddenly which was a huge shock.

Ps I’m sorry to hear about your disc issues - they are incredibly tricky!

it was trying to stand and then sit, plus get knickers up and down that was utter agony. What have I done to myself??

whateveryouwantmetosay · 23/12/2023 02:47

OP, can you buy some co-codamol tomorrow? I agree with others that you need to be seen but it sounds like you're in agony and a stronger pain killer might be needed while you wait.

operafiend · 23/12/2023 02:47

Phone111, take 2 codeine tablets. 111 will ask a lot of questions but are ultimately helpful in my experience, your husband can speak to them if you are unable to. Try lying flat on your back with pillows under you knees on a blanket on the floor. I hope you feel better soon. Take care.

Thank you. I absolutely hate causing a fuss / using resources and am quite fearful
of doctors and hospitals (especially as I’ve been dismissed with pain issues before, before eventually being diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis / prolapsed disc in my spine).

Thank you all very much for your replies in my middle of the night panic. You’re absolutely right that I need to get in a queue to be seen.

I’d be going to a and e now I’m afraid - 111 if you need help getting there.

lovinglaughingliving · 23/12/2023 03:17

Yep another voice to say 111 because of your medical history and the intensity of the pain. X

Browniesandcustard · 23/12/2023 03:47

How are you doing now @Painpanic

BCBird · 23/12/2023 03:53

Sending u a hand hold OP

3luckystars · 23/12/2023 03:55

If you are in pain, you are NOT wasting anyones time!!!!!! That’s what they are there for in A and E. I would go now because you are going to have to wait there so the longer you leave it, the worse it will be trying to wait as the pain is getting worse.

I think you need mri to see what’s going on.

Im so sorry for you. If you go now, you might be home for a quiet Christmas, I really hope you are x

Amdone123 · 23/12/2023 03:56

Sending you a handhold @Painpanic , and I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. My mum died suddenly and I still remember the shock ( it was 30 years ago).
You sound lovely, thinking of others but I agree with everyone here - you need medical help. Please put your lovely self first 💐

Weefreetiffany · 23/12/2023 04:03

Another one saying go to a&e, this is what it’s for. I hipe
you feel better, this is the kind of thing that needs to be seen straight away so please prioritise yourself

Closerandcloser · 23/12/2023 04:06

I loathe the 111 service, unqualified people reading from the computer, but I did have a Male nurse call me back with sensible advice once.
Sadly you have to go through this stupid process to be seen at our walk in centre.
Call them and be seen.
I slipped holding a trolley and have done something to hip or pelvis, and ha a few uncomfortable nights.
in your pain, I’d go to A&E
