Ive done to family for Christmas and forgotten to bring my pill. Will a local family planning or sexual health clinic be able to help?

OP posts:

RachelGreensHair · 23/12/2023 00:17

How many days are u away for? Is it imperative you have sex? Easier to pop to a chemist and get some condoms.

UnWilly · 23/12/2023 00:17

Is being away at your family's not contraception enough : {

Not what you're after but congrats on having the courage to think about it around family. I just couldn't.

HormonalHetty · 23/12/2023 00:18

You might be able to get an emergency prescription at a local pharmacy

Pigeonqueen · 23/12/2023 00:18

You can get the pill from pharmacies now but if you ring 111 they can access your prescriptions and reissue the prescription for one to a local pharmacy for you to collect.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 23/12/2023 00:19

I’m guessing OP mainly doesn’t want a period over Christmas- if you go to a chemist they should be able to give you an emergency supply

Any need to be so snarky?
OP- I would say they should be able to give you an emergency supply- you could try a pharmacy first... do you have any evidence of your prescription at all? It will help. Good luck!

AltitudeCheck · 23/12/2023 00:21

Pop to your nearest pharmacy and ask for an emergency supply of your usual pill. They can access your GP records (with your permission) to confirm what you normally have and can supply you with one month's worth.

Depending on what local schemes that are in place they may not get reimbursed by the NHS for this and so may charge you a small fee plus the cost of the tablets for this.

Tighginn · 23/12/2023 00:30

You can buy online from Superdrug to pick up instore.

whatthehelldowecare · 23/12/2023 00:35

This happened to me when I was visiting family in the summer and I'm now 21 weeks pregnant..

Whatever you do, don't thibk 'awk it'll be okay for a couple of days' 😂

TheWalkingDeadly · 23/12/2023 00:36

Not snarky at all. Exasperated . Very simple solution. Why is it solely OP’s problem?

StarlightLady · 23/12/2023 05:41

I hope you manage to sort things from the ideas above OP (the sensible ones) it’s not good to suddenly stop. I just hope the regular ptr Christmas craziness doesn’t get in the way.

If you travel by car, it might be a good idea to keep a spare pack in the glove compartment.

thefallen · 23/12/2023 06:18

Just don't have sex, surely.

monkeyblonde · 23/12/2023 06:53

All the comments about condoms, sex etc -really?!
Perhaps the OP (like me) needs the pill for cycle regulation rather than contraception? I'd be in a bad place without mine.
Regardless, we've all made mistakes and she's just after a bit of advice.

FortunaMajor · 23/12/2023 07:04

There's a new scheme in place that started this December, you can now get oral contraceptives directly from a pharmacy without the need for a prescription.

Find out more here and find your nearest pharmacy that offers the service.

Because OP is the one who will end up with a period over Xmas which she likely doesn't want m. Who else's problem might it be? She doesn't even mention a partner. Not everyone takes the pill just for contraception but maybe her and her partner do want a bit of holiday fun. It's still only OP who can access her prescriptions

Chilicabbage · 23/12/2023 07:06

You can just buy them. I order mine online. In many pharmacies you can pick up same day

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 23/12/2023 07:08

If it's the mini pill you are on you can buy desogestorel at a pharmacy.

If it's the combined pill 111 may be able to help and send it through to a local pharmacy.

Ignore the posts of people assuming you want it just for contraception. I understand it may well be to stop exceptionally heavy bleeding or pain or other health related issues that may otherwise spoil your break away

dailygrind22 · 23/12/2023 07:11

The pill isn’t just taken for contraception believe it or not! Maybe she doesn’t want a heavy period dropping on her on christmas day or something else that the pill helps control, or generally doesn’t want to throw her cycle off after missing some pills, she’s just after some advice i’m sure she’s aware of condoms if she’s mature enough to get the pill!
It’s christmas give the snarky remarks a rest ffs

Blueberry911 · 23/12/2023 07:43

So many ignorant people on this thread. The contraceptive pill isn't just used for preventing pregnancy, it's also used for regulating heavy periods. I have PCOS and my first thought was what if OP is about to have an uncontrollable heavy period when she's not in the comfort or her own home over Christmas 😞

Ring 111 OP or speak with your local pharmacist that you usually attend for advice, you shouldn't be left without over Christmas.

Regardless why you take it, which is no one else's business.

People take the contraceptive pill for other reasons than contraception. I take it to control PMDD, other people take it to prevent really heavy period which would otherwise lead them to need to seek medical treatment.

That’s a bit rude. Some people have horrendous periods and take the pill for that. I am going to take it for my periods that are so heavy they leak and I have to get changed. That would be embarrassing if it happened if I was staying in someone else’s bed.
