Away at family and forgot the pill

Caffeinequeen91 · 23/12/2023 00:13

Ive done to family for Christmas and forgotten to bring my pill. Will a local family planning or sexual health clinic be able to help?

OP posts:

Some of these replies are so unnecessarily rude. I took the pill for 15 years until recently and mainly used it as a way to control horrendous periods rather than contraception so maybe the OP is similar!

Like others have said, try a local chemist and see if they can issue an emergency supply. Worth a try Smile

StarlightLady · 23/12/2023 09:27

To add to my previous comments, the reason the OP needs her pills (you shouldn’t stop mid cycle) is not relevant.

She might want them to control periods, she may want them to prevent pregnancy when she has sex. Where is the big deal in that. Sex is something that is part of a lot of our lives.

A wise comment.

Nice to see festive spirit alive and well.

Hope you get it sorted OP. As others say hopefully a local pharmacy can help.

pizzapicnic · 23/12/2023 10:03

You can get it online (and then collect) from Lloyds Pharmacy and Boots, you just have to pay.

FiddleLeaf · 23/12/2023 10:04

Yeah, i used to get last minute topups from Lloyds pharmacy.

StarlightLady · 23/12/2023 10:35

I was once told by the pearl clutching morality police on MN that “they had names for girls like me when they were at school”. Maybe happy girls would suit!

Now you have people being nasty to the OP because she might want to have sex with a regular partner; heaven forbid. You couldn’t make it up!

Aside from that, if you mess up your cycle, the pill does not instantly start working again as soon as you take one.

Someone recently invented marvellous things called condoms.

That’s a bit rude. Some people have horrendous periods and take the pill for that. I am going to take it for my periods that are so heavy they leak and I have to get changed. That would be embarrassing if it happened if I was staying in someone else’s bed

You're right, it is. I hadn’t considered that so apologise to OP.

Spidey66 · 23/12/2023 12:28

To the ones saying "just use condoms" how do you know the OP is taking it solely for contraception and not for the million and one other reasons the pill is prescribed for? And even if she was, stopping it mid cycle causes disruption to your cycle and you have to start all over again (disclaimer: I think. It's been a number of decades since I took it, I can just imagine it would be a pain in the arse).

If I was in OP shoes i think id try and find a way round it too!

Any need to be so snarky?

OP- I would say they should be able to give you an emergency supply- you could try a pharmacy first... do you have any evidence of your prescription at all? It will help. Good luck!”

Not snarky at all. Exasperated . Very simple solution. Why is it solely OP’s problem?

Because of the years I’ve taken the pill the vast majority were for period control/symptom reduction not contraception. It’s not a solution to that, is it?

Just don't have sex, surely.

That’ll help regulate her period will it? News to me…

Sperm can live for days inside you. If you have sex and then don’t take the next few pills you could still get pregnant eben if you don’t have sex again! I can’t believe how many people on this thread don’t seem to know this.

Sidebeforeself · 23/12/2023 12:43

I sense this is going to be a festive version of “ Cancel the cheque “!

welcometothnuthouse · 23/12/2023 12:57

If OP needs it for her periods that's her business, if she wants to have sex that's also her business.
OP I was once slated on here for taking a sex toy on a three day short break. The MN pearl clutchers were really up in arms about it. "Why do you take them on holiday?" Because dh and I have sex most days, you nosy bints!

OhmygodDont · 23/12/2023 13:02

You should be able to get some at the pharmacy. Simplymeds is an online pharmacy who delivery but I doubt they will get there till after Boxing Day now.

Just be warned levest is apparently an arse to get picked up on a nhs prescription right now. Funny I can order it online next day but all my local pharmacy’s when I try to put in my nhs say out of stock.

What is wrong with people’s brains if they think the OP shouldn’t have sex over Christmas? It’s certainly on my to do list! Before people start shooting me down in flames, it’s not an actual list.

I have small bullet in my makeup bag that goes everywhere with me. I travel a lot for work and it would certainly go with me on a 3 day trip.

Oh I didn’t expect so many replies. Thanks for the suggestions of buying it. I didn’t know that was available. Ordered via Superdrug and after a tense few hours waiting to see if it would be approved before the pharmacy closed I have some pills.

I have alternative contraception called a toddler 🙃but rely on the pill to keep horrendous heavy bleeding at bay and didn’t want to deal with that while away at the in laws for Christmas. Crisis averted. Pill was taken a bit late but should be close enough to prevent heavy bleeding starting.

LorlieS · 24/12/2023 00:32

@Caffeinequeen91 I'm sure you know this already, but if you were late taking it you won't be covered contraception-wise, even if just slightly late.
