Well. We all have Covid so will have to make do with what's in the house and what will come in the food delivery tomorrow because we can't go to my mum's now as my sister is immuno-compromised. So my current plan is:

Breakfast: pancakes and maple syrup, fresh orange juice and coffee

Lunch: smoked salmon sandwiches, lots of crisps, salad and macarons

Dinner: soup, sausage and mash, gingerbread house, ice cream

We won't starve and the kids don't like Christmas food much so they are delighted. Importantly my next door neighbour is going to go to the wine shop and pick up plenty of wine for us.

Ifailed · 22/12/2023 21:20

Breakfast: Bacon sandwich
Dinner: Ham, egg & chips
Tea: bit of salad & cheese.

Inextremis · 22/12/2023 21:32

Breakfast: freshly made soda bread, topped with garlic and herb Philadelphia, smoked salmon, and scrambled eggs. Orange juice, because no wants to get squiffy that early in the day!

Various cocktails as the morning progresses and I get more involved in cooking the beef Wellington, but refuse to panic over it. A shot of whiskey to get me going on peeling and prepping the spuds and veg. This is roughly when DH will piss off to the pub.

A happy hour or so preparing spuds, parsnips, sprouts, carrots, black pudding sausage, sage and onion stuffing, and pigs in blankets that we'll have as a nibble course before the Main Thing. Also sprouts, carrots, broccoli.

30 mins trying to get DH to respond to me to tell me how long it'll be until he gets home. This is a Good Thing because it gives the meat time to rest.

DH returns home and I pile everything on plates, then remember I've forgotten the gravy, so go make that. Decide that bread sauce is worth making (from a packet) so do that too.

We eat. We can't eat it all, but there is a very hopeful dog sitting under the table. This is her favourite day of the year.

Four hours of sprawling in chairs follow - with both of us moaning about how full we feel. Then a bit of a doze, which revitalizes us
, and we start looking for cheese and charcuterie. Having found and consumed it, we now crave chocolate - and so the chocolate orange, the After Eights, and the tubs of Heroes etc. come out. DH dives into them as though he's never tasted chocolate before. I refrain.

About now I get the urge for something fishy - so raid the fridge for whatever fish patés etc are in there. Have to bake some part-baked loves to eat it with, so that takes another 15 minutes.

It's about time the dog went out - so she and I will wander down our field in the dark trying not to fall into the septic tank or other unpleasantries. We stay out long enough for her ablutions and for me to get thoroughly chilled - makes coming back indoors such a pleasure!

Maybe one more wafer thin mint before bed - or a hot chocolate. Turn all the Xmas lights off and go crawl under the duvet. A perfect day, for me :)

Snowpaw · 22/12/2023 21:37

B: Toast with Bonne Mamam choc hazelnut spread. coffees.

L: Turkey crown with sausage meat stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and mashed, honey parsnips, carrots, sprouts, candied yams and a small dish of cauliflower cheese. Gravy.

D: Leftovers plus a ham cooked in coke, with cheeseboard.

Ginger ale to drink - we're not big drinkers.

Iliketulips · 22/12/2023 21:40

It's quite simple here, but we're more than happy:

Breakfast as normal, probably throw in orange juice.

At some point in morning xmas cake or mincepie.

Lunchtime(ish), roast potatoes, parsnips, carrrots, sprouts, turkey breast or salmon with gravy or hollanaise sauce. Only four of us, but we're usually stuffed and just about manage xmas pud or chocolate bomb around 4pm. Never hungry later, but there's cheese, sausages rolls, crisps, dips for anyone that wants them. I'm usually just tempted by xmas choccies and drinkies that I've been given around 9pm!

Missikat13 · 22/12/2023 21:48

Breakfast - scrambled eggs and smoked salmon with bucks fizz, and sausage sarnies for the kids.

Lunch - turkey, glazed ham cooked in apple juice, roasties, parsnips, honey carrots and onions, cauli cheese, spiced red cabbage, broccoli, peas and sweetcorn, pigs in blankets.
Pud - Xmas pudding and shop bought berry roulade (was going to make a pavlova but it's too much work!

Tea - left over sarnies, cheese board, grapes

Yum yum yum!!

WeWishYouAMerryChristmas2023 · 22/12/2023 21:59

Breakfast - smoked salmon scrambled egg and champagne
Lunch - green salad, mussels, hand dived scallops, lobster, surf clams, razor clams, langoustines and brown crab served with fresh olive bread, aioli, lemon and herb butter and mayonnaise for dipping.
We’ll have a cheeseboard with oatcakes/crackers, pickles, chutneys etc later in the evening.

she and I will wander down our field in the dark trying not to fall into the septic tank or other unpleasantries

I can so relate to this 😂. I bring the horses in early as I couldn’t be trusted to do it later in the day while under the influence of too much alcohol.

CharlotteSometimes1 · 22/12/2023 23:55

Breakfast pancakes made by dc1

Lunch, standard Christmas dinner with the addition of Yorkshire puds, carrots roasted as well as steamed, cauliflower cheese

Late afternoon, Christmas cake for mil, cheesecake everyone else

evening, leftovers but most importantly turkey butties.

DollyPartonsLeftTit · 22/12/2023 23:56

No breakfast unless they get toast or something. Dinner at about 2 or 3pm will be turkey, stuffing, roast potatoes, veg, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. We never have a pudding. They might make a sandwich for supper, or some toast. I'm usually very satisfied and full with just my Dinner. Then Boxing day is the traditional 'beige buffet' that I make in the morning, and we graze on it throughout the day. 🙃

raspberryjuiceandpompoms · 23/12/2023 00:07
