I've finished work for 10 days now and getting v excited about all the food and drink!
Breakfast- same as usual- not an occasion and given we are all adults we may only get up around 9.30am.
From 1pm - light snacks and fizz

from 3pm- Roast turkey, roasted potatoes, stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, carrots, honey roasted parsnips, broccoli and brussels sprouts. Cranberry sauce and loads of gravy. Followed by a 'Black Forest' type pudding from M&S with pouring cream and then a cheeseboard with all the cheese with grapes, biscuits and chutney. Around 8pm a small turkey /stuffing and any leftover pigs in blankets butty. Dips and crisps/nuts and more cheeseboard.

We do all this at my mums who is mostly housebound - then we will totter home as we are 10 mins walk away (and probably have more drinks when we get in and watch a movie) around 9 pm as she likes to be in her bed by 10 latest.

I do all the cooking (and shopping) and DH and DS do the clearing away and washing up. I also take all the food/drinks round- I don't make an elderly poorly woman cater to us. She did it all for years but I have taken over for a long time now and she is really looking forward to it- we are very straightforward with each other and if she wants us to bugger off early we will.

Wont bother with breakfast as otherwise I wont be able to eat dinner at lunchtime. Small appetite. DD 's will probably eat Christmas chocolate they have been given.

Roast beef with roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, sprouts, broccoli and carrots. Will make a trifle for my teens and I will have some Christmas pudding which I will then be eating for about 5 days.

Tea. Depends if hungry. Cheese and crackers and fruit and Christmas treats eg chocolate and crisps and nuts. Trifle if any left.

Scrumbleton · 23/12/2023 01:16

Xmas eve - slow cooked roast leg of lamb, roast potatoes, carrots, peas, broccoli in cheese sauce, mince pies and brandy butter. Christmas day - bacon, sausage and eggs for breakfast. Lunch - stilton and apple soup or chicken and veg broth - catering for group with different tastes- with melba toast. Turkey, ham, stuffing, red cabbage, carrots, brussels sprouts pan dried wirh pancetta, roast potatoes, chocolate and poached pear trifle made with home made custard
or individual baked alaskas made with madeira cake, raspberry and passion fruit compote, vanilla ice cream and meringue. Cheese board in the evening and cold cut sandwiches.

IShouldNotBeSurprised · 23/12/2023 02:28

Our big family celebration is Christmas Eve so this is that menu.

We're not big breakfast eaters so I have doughnuts and cinnamon bread for toast should we want a little something.

My daughter does a wonderful charcuterie and my son and daughter-in-law do a really nice vegetable and dip tray, so those will be lunch.

Right after what we call a "snacky" lunch, we'll do gifts. With our grown kids, spouses, and grandchildren we now number 21, so it's quite a production.

Dinner will be roasted beef tenderloin, steamed crab legs, loaded mashed potato casserole, green beans and cauliflower, and a nice salad.

Dessert is cheesecake and homemade Christmas cookies. I also make marshmallows, so coffee and hot chocolate include those melting on top.

Christmas Day is just me, my husband and our youngest, 19 with Down Syndrome. Dinner will be broiled flank steak, shrimp cocktail, scallops, sauteed mushrooms, either leftover mashed potato casserole or fresh mashed potatoes, and a vegetable. We will spend our day relaxing, eating, and watching Christmas movies.

I've had a pretty stressful year. I lost my Dad in April and was trustee of his estate. I just started to get my head above water with that and our 23-year-old had unexpected, urgent heart surgery. He had an aneurysm at very high risk of rupture, so within a few days of discovery he was in surgery. My husband had cataract surgery yesterday. I think.. hope.. we're in the clear for a while now. I'm finally losing that "high alert" feeling and am hoping from the 25th through the 2nd of January to spend as much time as possible having a little staycation. As little work around the house as I can get away with and the rest of the time knitting, stitching, and reading.

That got long, sorry!

Bacon sandwiches for breakfast

Rest of day grazing, dumping tsar cut of smoked salmon, prawns, pate, salad, ham cheeses, pickles, crackers etc on table & just eating when we want.

Fran92 · 23/12/2023 03:33

Happy to see another curry being ordered from the takeaway! So much easier and not half as much mess imo plus I’m not keen on a roast dinner at the best of times

TheClitterati · 23/12/2023 03:33

It's summer here. We do the main event on Christmas Eve with Chicken Marbella and lamb rack with thyme, duck fat roasted potatoes, fresh beans and a Greek salad.

Christmas Day involves one long grazing of platters starting with freshly baked petit pain au chocolat, fruit, Turkish pide, prosciutto, smoked salmon, cheeses, quince jelly and insanely expensive crackers, chocolate bark.

Coffee, fruit juice, bellinis, non-alcoholic cocktails, bubbly.

CICTGIGF · 23/12/2023 04:31

B - Nutella filled croissants, orange juice,
coffee with a drop of Baileys.

L - Roast lamb, roast potatoes, honey glazed parsnips, pigs in blankets, cabbage, carrots, sprouts, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
Followed by Christmas pudding and Brandy cream and warm chocolate fudge cake and custard for the DC.

D - cheese, crackers, fruit, crisps, Lebkuchen and mince pies.

We’re not doing a Christmas dinner this year. We don’t usually bother with breakfast, but there’s smoked salmon and scrambled egg if we fancy it. The main meal will be clementine glazed ham, with potatoes and whatever veg is left.

There’s lemon tart, Christmas cake, florentines afterwards.

margotrose · 23/12/2023 12:23

Breakfast (around 9am) - a choice of bacon sandwiches and various pastries, orange juice, Baileys coffee.

Lunch (around 2pm) - chicken with sage and onion stuffing under the skin, homemade roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, yorkshire puddings, vegetables, extra stuffing and loads of gravy.

Dinner - (around 7ish) - normally leftover sandwiches, mince pies, shortbread, cheese and crackers and a random selection of chocolate, nuts and crisps.

We do a big dog walk in the morning after breakfast and normally board games after lunch. We have no kids so it's just me and DH. The dog (and the cats) all get some chicken in their bowls too.

WahWahWahs · 23/12/2023 12:34
