Eyelash extensions novice here… I’ve got some questions!

I am getting semi permanent eyelash extensions tonight for the first time ever tonight (going for the classic look). I’ve wanted to try them for ages, and just have a few questions:

  1. how long will they take to apply?
  2. how long will they last?
  3. I don’t know if this will be a one off or I’ll get into the habit.. if it turns into a regular thing, do you just go for infills?
  4. can you feel them when you have them on?

l have only ever worn fake eyelashes twice in my life (for weddings so for one day only!), but I loved the look!

I had extensions. They ruined my natural lashes and they took ages to grow back normally.

But you can get infills, the advise every couple of weeks.
You should use a clean mascara brush every morning to comb them.
There were times I could feel them and times I couldn't.
They take over an hour. It's hard not to keep blinking even when your eyes are shut.

I did like them but all three places I went to they ruined my natural ones.

Newmum110 · 21/12/2023 14:06

I get them regularly with no damage to my own lashes but it's an expensive habit to get into. I think a lot of people feel they have damage after because their lashes look so sparse compared to the lovely full lashes.
Mine take about 2 hours to apply, sometimes I fall asleep, infills recommend after 3 weeks only take an hour.
I find a set lasts approx a month, then infills another month & would then need a fresh set.
Due to the expense I now only get them for special occasions.
Edited to add I wouldn't even notice that I have them only when I look in the mirror

CornishPorsche · 21/12/2023 14:09

Mine were falling off within a few days and all gone in a week.

Took a good hour to do, I fell asleep!

I never bothered with them again.

Yes you can feel them - I felt like a Disney Princess and not in a good way. I only had a "natural look", fuck knows how other women tolerate those ones as thick as plastic combs.

Classics would usually take about an hour to two hours.

they should last for 3/4 weeks, you can get infills very 2/4 weeks.

I’ve never really felt mine. It’s important not to wear mascara, use oil make up removers etc. but you do need to clean them and brush through them with a spooly, usually the beautician will give you the one she’s used for application.

Aw fun!!!

  1. about an hour 15
  2. They’ll look amazing for two weeks, then look good for a third
  3. yes peopel book infills every two or three weeks. I personally only get them as a one off as I find they damage my eye lashes
  4. yes but they don’t hurt
needsomeinspo1928 · 21/12/2023 21:40

So I got them!! Really pleased, they are natural looking but you can’t definitely see them!

I have to say though, the process was actually a lot more uncomfortable than I thought it would be! It’s like when you know you can’t open your eyes, that’s all you want to do!! My eyes were quite itchy / scratchy during it as well and afterwards but they have settled down now!

I didn’t realise you had to clean them daily! So I’ve ordered myself some lash shampoo.

needsomeinspo1928 · 22/12/2023 22:07

Hmm okay so 24 hours later and my eyes are still quite sore and red? And a bit itchy? Also earlier today they became so watery. Is this normal? I’ve ordered a lash shampoo so will clean them tomorrow.

OP posts:
Dubonet · 22/12/2023 22:12

It's not normal for your eyes to be sore or itchy! Did you get a patch test beforehand to check you were not allergic to the glue?

CaribbeanCupcake · 22/12/2023 22:15

I used to get mine done all the time and then randomly I had a terrible allergic reaction and my face ballooned like the elephant man 😫 5 different types of medication later and they swelling came down!

Take a picture and send to your technician and see what she recommends but if still sore after 24 hours the advice might be to take them off 😭

needsomeinspo1928 · 22/12/2023 22:26

Yes I had a patch test and it was fine.

When I say sore and itchy, they just feel a bit … tender, but I’m not actually rubbing my eyes. I can’t feel the extensions, just feels a bit stingy? If that makes any sense?

My eyes are a bit red though.

needsomeinspo1928 · 22/12/2023 22:54

Anyone?

OP posts:
TheWeatherOutsideIs · 22/12/2023 23:04

Not normal for it to last that long.

Beachwaves127 · 23/12/2023 00:13

Mine are sometimes like this for a few days. I once had an allergic reaction and it was pretty darn obvious it was that as I was so swollen. I changed lash ladies and I don’t get the reaction anymore, although last time randomly I did have the symptoms you have said for a few days. The symptoms must have gone after. Few days (I don’t remember exactly when). How are they now?

needsomeinspo1928 · 23/12/2023 09:11

My left eye is absolutely fine. My right eye though is sore in the corner, itchy and eyelid is visibly bigger.

SerCrispin · 23/12/2023 09:31

Not normal OP. Can you take a photo?

That doesn't sound normal, I'd go back and get them removed, if they can't fit you in try to remove them yourself using something like baby oil or moisturiser on a cotton bud.
Check if one has come loose and is poking into your skin, sometimes happens to me, I brush them off with a little brush.

BranchGold · 23/12/2023 10:23

Have you tried taking some antihistamine tablets op?

Beachwaves127 · 23/12/2023 14:03

I can’t tell how bad it is obviously but with my first bad reaction I had them moved immediately. With my recent red weepy itchy eyes I left them on and it subsided within a few days and I then had a few weeks of my lashes looking amazing (so worth it for me!). Obviously I don’t know where you sit on that scale. Fingers crossed xx

bryceQ · 23/12/2023 14:23

Hmmm not normal to be hurting that much. I sometimes sting the evening of but then it goes.

Keep a close eye on that and I wouldn't use any products on them.

Summergarden · 23/12/2023 23:08

Hope it feels better soon OP.

Sorry it’s a bit late now, but instead of getting extensions I get LVLs. This only involves using your own lashes but they basically perm them to give them a curl and then tint them (as well as the lower lashes if you ask). Lasts about 6-8 weeks and I pay £35. Would definitely recommend, makes a massive visible difference.

Moveoverdarlin · 23/12/2023 23:10

I think they look like little stuck on spider’s legs.

MCOut · 23/12/2023 23:21

OP just to be on the safe side, maybe go and have your eyes checked, just because it’s a sensitive area so better to be safe.

I’ve been doing them for years and have never experienced what you’re talking about, except the sore corner. The problem might be that one of your bottom lashes has got caught in glue and is pulling or has been pulled out. Usually I listen to an audiobook, or will just sleep to get through it, the boredom we go through in the name of beauty

Takenobull · 28/12/2023 06:54

I own a hair and beauty salon and what you have isn’t an allergic reaction. Believe me, if it was you’d really know about it. Your eyes would be so swollen and oozing and you’d be fearing for your sight.

What you’re experiencing is a reaction to the fumes from the glue. I get this so, I have to follow a few steps to ensure it doesn’t happen. If I don’t my eyes are red and sore for about 3 days after. They feel bruised almost.

You may be like me and even when you think your eyes are closed- they’re actually not fully. As a result the fumes creep in and start to burn the eyeball.

I do the following…

  1. ask your lash tech to tape your eyelids down. If they are unable to do this then find another lash tech as they’re not experienced enough

  2. don’t talk. Talking moves your face/eyes and you run the risk of the under eye pads moving as well as your eyes opening thus allowing glue fumes in. I now listen to an Audio book. It’s actually bliss

  3. make sure your lady tech uses a fan to dry the glue before you open your eyes

  4. there is a lotion that can be applied to set the glue and help with fumes once the lashes are all in place. This is a game changer!! Ask your lash tech to use it if their lash brand has one. I know lash bomb do.

Good Luck.

Anna79ishere · 28/12/2023 08:34

Reading this thread as never done fake eyelashes and wondering - why in 2024 women need to spend loads of time, money, expose themselves to nasty chemicals and risk allergic reactions to put some eyelashes?!

like really???!
It feels sad to me.
