The problem with Christmas Eve boxes..

Do you think they are pretty pointless?
I mean most give pjs don't they but what's the point of a new pair of Christmas pjs the day before Christmas when you can't get much wear out of them as my ocd wouldn't want to wear them in January 🤷🏻‍♀️

I gave in last year and bought a personalised Christmas Eve box but now I'm thinking of giving ds the box on school break up day so it's a little way off the big present opening day.

What's others thoughts on it? It was never a thing waaay back in my day.

I have no problem with what anyone does btw, just wondering on general thoughts

Mine have non-Christmas pyjamas and chocolate. That’s it.

Well, we keep the crib up until Candlemas and we wear the PJs until the Spring Equinox.

We’ve got a collection of Christmas books, DVDs, cuddly reindeer etc that we’ve built up over the years. This comes out for 1st December, along with advent calendars and colouring books / crafty bits. We use them all throughout the month and then put them away until the following year.

The children have had new pjs tonight, they are Christmassy but will be worn all year round for as long as they fit so not wasteful.

I love the build up to Christmas and reusing things year after year gives a lovely nostalgic feeling. There’s quite an age gap between my children and the eldest loves seeing the youngest playing with their old toys / enjoying their old stories. Some of the things are from my own childhood and I fully intend to still have all of this stuff coming out on 1st December if I ever have grandchildren.

It's not a box that I give but when the elf departs while we are out on Christmas eve he leaves behind pyjamas and sometimes a game or bath products. The idea is they wear the new pjs on Christmas eve and look nice on Christmas morning.
My parents always gave us 1 present on Christmas eve which was nightwear, this was in the 80s and 90s so it's not a totally new thing.

My Christmas eve box for my kids consists of a bath bomb to get my soap dodgers in the bath without the usual nagging and new pyjamas ( for all year round) and a new wanted book to get them to go to bed quicker. It's mainly for my benefit 😁

I don't bother.
It's an added expense and faff my DD simply doesn't need. The magic of decorating the tree, putting presents under the tree, visiting Santa, leaving him a mince pie and opening her presents Christmas morning is more than enough for her.

I can't help but think alot of this extra stuff is attention seeking for Instagram, at least that's the impression I get from people around me. But I'll probably get jumped on for saying that I'm sure.

I totally agree. We do a December 1st box instead! At least the pjs and clothes get worn all December.
spreads the joy too, as the 25th and around can almost overwhelming for little children.

DarkDarkNight · 24/12/2023 22:58

I just put the pyjamas they’re wearing on Christmas Eve in - so they are Christmas themed but not brand new, they’ve been used since the start of the Christmas period. I only ever used to do some popcorn and a hot chocolate set and a mug and story book. No e of them had to be new.

You could do a 1st December box again and put the Christmas books you’ll read, and things you’ll watch (doesn’t work so well in the streaming agar though).

In our family kids always got to open one pressie on Christmas Eve and it was always new pjs. The reason for this was so the kids wouldn’t look scruffy in the photos of them opening their pressies. Don’t see the point of Christmas Eve boxes but each to their own.

In Iceland, if you're naughty, you're threatened with not getting new clothes. And if you don't have new clothes at Christmas, the Yule Cat eats you. So maybe Christmas PJs deal with that.

Derb · 24/12/2023 23:52

I give the 'Xmas Eve box' on the day after thy break up from school. We have a separate small box with bits to leave Santa, the magic key and reindeer food etc that comes Xmas Eve with the night before Xmas book.

That way they get more time to do the crafty bits etc

The Yule cat?! Is this really a thing in Iceland? Tell me more!
