Is this weird?

Last week I called the GP about something and the receptionist booked an appointment by phone for yesterday. I actually forgot about the appointment and wasn't with my phone and when I got my phone again it had 50 missed called from the doctor! Is this not really weird? It wasn't an urgent issue at all and even then I would be surprised at the amount of calls. 50 missed calls? I am of course going to call back tomorrow in the morning as the receptionist said if I called in the morning I could usually get a same day appointment so don't need to be told to call them but honestly 50 missed calls?

50!

Well they are definitely making sure you can’t come back and complain they never called you 😂

it’s a bit PA making sure you know you’ve missed your, much sought after, appointment isn’t it? Ours call, leave a voice mail, then redial in case you suddenly pick up. They will then try once more a little later.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/12/2023 20:00

Maybe they have a not very intelligent automated system?Confused

AchillesHeelys · 19/12/2023 20:04

50! Wow, super keen GP.

Better than ours who give an 8 hour window for the call and only give one chance. If you miss it you need to spend another hour on hold to the receptionist to get added to the list for another day (usually several weeks away)

YABVU to make an appointment and not keep it. That costs money and denies someone who actually needs it an appointment. I think you need to review your own behaviour before criticising the doctor, to be honest.

kimchio · 19/12/2023 20:07

Don't book another appointment. You had one and clearly couldn't be bothered about the issue or you'd have answered one of the 50 calls

You clearly didn't read the OP. The 50 missed calls all happened during a period when she wasn't with her phone.

Because she forgot she had an appointment. If she actually had an issue which needed medical support I doubt she would have.

Coolstorysis · 19/12/2023 20:15

That's weird, if ever I accidentally missed a phone appointment they didn't even call back once!

I did read it. If she had have been bothered she would have made sure she was available one of the 50 times she was called

AmazingDayz · 19/12/2023 20:52

I don't want to go into detail why I forgot as it's private! That isn't the issue and I don't care they called so many times just wondered if it was weird this isn't about whether you think I'm unreasonable for missing it!

OP posts:
AmazingDayz · 19/12/2023 20:54

I didn't post in aibu so not asking if you think I'm unreasonable for missing the call the calls were one after the other not throughout the day they were literally on repeat

OP posts:
VisionsOfSplendour · 19/12/2023 21:01

Maybe something went wrong with their phone system but forgetting the appointment isn't really on when it's so hard to get one if you had an unavoidable reason couldn't you have let them know?

AmazingDayz · 19/12/2023 21:06

I did NOT have my phone! Do you understand how life works? sometimes emergencies come up. Not asking if I was unreasonable for missing the appointment!!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 19/12/2023 21:17

I suspect it was some sort of autodialling function that kept trying within a set period of however many minutes. It probably wasn't the GP themselves repeat calling you by pressing redial.

Cas112 · 19/12/2023 21:18

How have you missed 50 though😂

Evidently it's beyond some peoples comprehension that someone might not have their phone with them for a while, and might be dealing with something more important than a non-urgent phone appointment.

If you're expecting a doctor to call you'd have your phone on you though? Unless perhaps you were flying an aeroplane

AmazingDayz · 19/12/2023 21:23

Something came up which meant I left the house in a hurry leaving the phone behind. None of your business what that was though... Things happen. I've never missed a call before ever from them. The calls were all one after the other so that's why I missed them as I was out.

It’s beyond my comprehension that someone could forget an appointment for something important. She wasn’t dealing with anything. She just forgot - that’s what it says in the OP. It’s only when people started criticising that that she comes up with a ‘something came up’ excuse…

Not when I've got a doctors appointment no

Luckingfovely · 19/12/2023 21:58

I've a) never forgotten my phone and b) never missed a call from the doctor and c) never forgotten a doctor's appointment.

Lazy and sloppy and really silly to complain about the number of missed calls when you weren't with your phone as you should have been.

It's very obviously an automated system, which calls up to 50 times, trying to connect you to the appointment YOU asked for and YOU missed.

And then you complain about it. Jeez.

AmazingDayz · 19/12/2023 22:09

I wasn't complaining I asked if it was weird. I wasn't asking whether I was being unreasonable to miss the appointment I KNOW that was unreasonable! Which is why I didn't go into detail about it because I already know it was bad to forget and I'm not asking that!!! I'm sorry you are perfect and I'm not, you want a medal? It happened and of. I was asking if this was normal as it had me concerned! Not "complaining" and yes I was shagging my brains out 😌 ( mumsnet is a weird place!)

Bloody hell! I wish my GP was as dedicated as this! About a year ago,I had a telephone medication review booked. I was told the GP would phone between 3 and 4pm,but for some reason,he called at 2.20om. I was busy with something and didn't hear my phone. First I knew of it was when I checked my phone volume was up at 3pm and saw the one missed call. That was it. Tried calling me 40 minutes early, just the once. Made no allowance for the fact that they calling early so I might miss the call.
