Where to buy clothes for 11 year old girl who is 5 ft 4 & really skinny!

Dd is 11 & after another huge growth spurt is 5 ft 4. It is impossible to get jeans or leggings to fit her. Her waist & legs are so skinny. Help! How can I dress her?

Would womens clothes be longer? Would she fit in to a size 6 or 8

Greatballzoffire · 18/12/2023 07:33

No size 6 is swimming at the waist. At the moment, dresses, tights & boots & skirts/tops are working but she wants jeggings & jeans for practicality & for sports etc..

I would say womens too, from a cheaper store where they’re cut small like Primark.

11 is a funny age especially when puberty hits, DD was the opposite, rounded and curvy but very short, there were a few years where clothes shopping was difficult.

my daughter is the same. womens size 4/6 in Primark or her fave is Gilly Hicks leggings or Brandy Melville - seems to be for leggy thin teens. good luck x

Deeleycat01 · 18/12/2023 07:35

2 times extra small at Primark might work

LydiaTomos · 18/12/2023 07:35

My daughter was the same and had to start wearing womens clothes in a size 4 were I could find them. Some styles were ok in size 6. The children's clothes were too wide.

ChristmasTreeMagic · 18/12/2023 07:36

H&M was quite good at that age for our super skinny teen dd - now 18 & size 4...
Brandy melville was OK too but obviously more expensive
It's v hard finding things they like that fit

Unescorted · 18/12/2023 07:37

Zara sizes small and in some shops they do a size 4.
Uniqlo - have small waisted jeans that you can order in long length

DeathMetalMum · 18/12/2023 07:39

Was coming to suggest H&M, they have a fairly decent teen range. Where the trousers and skirts still have waist adjusters in. Loads of choice online, our nearest stores only have have a modest selection though.

Tiredpigeon · 18/12/2023 07:39

Hollister and Gilly Hicks are great. The xxs is a size 2/4 and they do different lengths.

Alargeoneplease89 · 18/12/2023 07:39

Buy h&m xxs / 4 or hollister go to size 2

Thanks I'll look those up

New look has a tweens section, with teeny tiny sizes.

PinkyU · 18/12/2023 07:41

Next do a slim fit size range and hollister are almost customisable with their sizes.

My (very nearly) 11 year old is 4ft 4in and wears size 8-9-10 clothes which are often too wide.

I'll look again at Primark this week. I don't want to spend too much as she is growing so quickly. No period as of yet, when will the growing stop? 😩

Got her new look leggings last week & the length & waist were good.

H&M do a size 4 and are usually cut on the smaller side.

Dance leggings might work, like capezio or Bloch.

Caspianberg · 18/12/2023 07:58

I’m 5’4 and pretty slim. I find Levi jeans fit best as I can get waists and leg length accurate. I take a 28 leg at Levi if that helps. And just measure her for waist measurements ( probably 25 at guess)

Adidas yoga leggings

Uniqlo also used to have free alteration service at there stores. So if you go there she can pick a pair and they will measure and adjust length or waist as needed

GivePeasADance · 18/12/2023 08:00

DD1 went through that stage too and basically lived in leggings which never reached her ankles. Now that she's started her periods, she has "filled out" 😂a bit into a women's size 6. As with all parenting stages, this too shall pass.

Boriswentcamping · 18/12/2023 08:05

If you can find trousers in an extra long length. Size down so they fit the waist but with the longer length version for the legs. That can sometimes work :)

Next can be quite good for having different fit options for the same clothing.

I find H&M quite slim fitting.

PinkyU · 18/12/2023 08:09

5ft 4in is not long length, it’s barely out of the petite size range and shorter than regular lengths. Unsure as to why people have mentioned long length trousers/jeans.

3Tunes · 18/12/2023 08:10

Decathlon had some sports leggings in age14-15 that were very cheap but which worked on the waist and length for my similar dd. They are still not skin tight, but not ridiculously baggy. Uniqlo XXS ordered online also works sometimes, but is more expensive.

Sgtmajormummy · 18/12/2023 08:11

When DD was that age Bershka Teens was the place for petite skinny clothes but I see there are only 4 stores in the UK, or online.

Imnoonesfool · 18/12/2023 08:15

Mango Teens very good for my very leggy slim daughter as a pre teen although she wasn’t overly keen on the style so it was more for leggings jeans etc
now she’s a teen she loves stradivarius and Bershka especially size 4 fits her perfectly and I’d say she is about 5’ 4

parietal · 18/12/2023 08:25

Uniqlo adult sizes are pretty smalll.
