What are THE best Wellies?

Sonolanona · 17/12/2023 17:29

I walk the dog. I also now have an allottment and am spending large amounts of my spare time digging, mulching and generally up to my knees in muck.
I've pretty much ruined my nice Ariat Wythburn boots as a result. My cheap wellies are rubbish for walking the dog in, and my feet are frozen.

I want really comfy wellies that I can walk in, are warm, and crucuially fit slim legs as I hate baggy ones and am slim calved. I don't mind spending a fair amount of money on a pair as I basically live in them.

I've looked at Muck Boots but suspect they might be a bit loose. Le Chameau wellies look promising but I don't want to pay for a brand if they aren't actually brilliant. I'd love any suggestions!!!

I bought joules wellies, they're not high end but I liked them as they were neat fit and not baggy on my legs. I invested in proper welly socks for the warmth as the wellies aren't lined.

Not wellies but I love my dubarry boots, they're waterproof too. Expensive though.

Birchvalley · 17/12/2023 17:37

I’m on my 5th pair of muck boots - love them. So comfortable and I have never had cold feet. I’ve walked up mountains in them.

Dubarrys are awful for dog walking, they are so heavy.
I've got 2 pairs - one from Le Chamau and a pair by Aigle, I would recommend either of them.

PostmansKnock · 17/12/2023 17:56

I've got aigle wellies and they are so comfortable and warm.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 17/12/2023 17:58

Le chameu are fantastic

twistyizzy · 17/12/2023 17:59

Aigle Parcours ISO are the absolute best. With horses + dogs mine get worn 365 days of the year.
Hunters/Joules/Barbour are crap quality

PuppyMcPupFace · 17/12/2023 18:00

Aigle neoprene lined. Had them for years and they've had very heavy usage. I was getting through two Joules pairs a year

justforthisnow · 17/12/2023 18:02

I second Aigle, with fleece liners purchased separately for extra warmth.

The ISO are already thermal lined 😁

Katherineryan1986 · 17/12/2023 18:04

Le Chemeau neoprene lined.
I found the Aigle wellies too wide in the calf.
I’m on my 2nd pair of Le chemeau and wouldn’t have any other brand now - and when I say my 2nd pair, the first pair lasted 6 years of constant horse riding, mucking out, gardening, dog walking etc

FlyingCherub · 17/12/2023 18:04

Aigle parcours. I've had 3 pairs and they do weather eventually but I had 5 years out of each pair which isn't bad going.

Also, I got a pair of Hunter hybrid Balmoral - they're neoprone with a mega thick sole and I walk 5 miles a day in them. They're super warm and cosy and for Hunter, I'm actually really impressed. https://www.wellywarehouse.co.uk/hunter-womens-field-balmoral-hybrid-tall-black

MaisyMary77 · 17/12/2023 18:05

I’ve got Aigle parcours for cold weather and Le Chameau for wet and muddy weather. They’re both fantastic. Each pair is over ten years old and still going strong.

Whatabouterry · 17/12/2023 18:06

Another vote for Le Chameau. I can’t imagine buying any other dog walking wellies now that I’ve worn these for the past couple of winters.

Justmemyselfandi999 · 17/12/2023 18:07

I spend all day every day in wellies, have tried every brand and spent hundreds. Most recently purchased the new Le Mieux boots, neoprene lined, memory foam sole, very warm and comfy, best boot I've owned, and only £90. Highly recommend

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/12/2023 18:08

I keep adverts for Merry People Boots on FB. They look pretty sturdy, but I've never seen them in real life.

louderthan · 17/12/2023 18:09

Muck Boots. I used to work as a groom at a livery yard/riding school and do 20,000+ steps a day, up and down hills, in ankle deep mud and snow. My feet were always warm and dry, no rubbing, no slipping, they are lightweight and grippy. Can't recommend more.

SirChenjins · 17/12/2023 18:13

Muck boots - my feet are always freezing (sometimes my toes go white) and these keep my feet warm in even the coldest of Scottish winters. Love love love them.

F1ymetothetoon · 17/12/2023 18:14

Aigle Parcours are so comfy and designed to be cool in summer but warm in winter and to coin a MN phrase will have to be prised from my coldwarm? dead feet.

GlobalCitz · 17/12/2023 18:15

I could walk all day in my Aigle and they're truly waterproof

muddyford · 17/12/2023 18:15

Aigle. I think it's the Parcours range that have a neoprene lining but mine are plenty warm enough without.

Fleur405 · 17/12/2023 18:32

I absolutely love my merry people Bobbi boots. They are super warm and easy to put on. I wear them at the play park with my daughter, in the garden, to walk to work when it’s raining.

1AnotherOne · 17/12/2023 18:36

La Chameau here too - customer service is fantastic. A colleague had a problem with a pair and they sent a new pair out straight away

Twentymorequestions · 17/12/2023 18:41

I have been through so many wellies it’s embarrassing!

I wear them daily in muddy fields. I have bought really cheap ones, and much dearer ones (£90 which is a lot of money for me) and every single make I try has split and let in water within a few months. Usually just above my toes where they obviously flex when I walk.
I don’t think I walk any differently to anyone else, but why does every pair of wellies I try do this with me?
I just put up with wet feet now.

It firstly depends on the quality of rubber but then secondly how you clean and store them. Rubber degrades so needs to be kept out of sunlight in a cool, dry place and actually cleaned with a rubber cleaner.
Also the really good ones are around £150+. Ones under that price point are usually made in China and inferior.
