I’m curious to know how regional this is?

Also if we’re ranking pakora then cauliflower is the best followed by mushroom.

Glasgow - yes. All varieties. Chicken, vegetable. Even haggis. Pakora also easily bought in supermarkets.

TurningtheLightOff · 17/12/2023 13:18

Cornwall - yes. Chicken or veg options.

London - they might not have it on their standard online menu (the one with Onion and Mushroom Bhajii, Tikka Masala and Korma and maybe one dish with Okra if they're trying to hint that there is more to life than the stuff you get in a supermarket meal deal), but the chances are that if you ask them, there will be a whole load of other things available.

Malarandras · 17/12/2023 13:21

In Glasgow yes definitely. But cauliflower and mushroom being the best? Really?

maras2 · 17/12/2023 13:21

We live in a large West Midlands city (not Birmingham) It would be very odd if any Indian/Pakistani restaurant or take away didn't. 🤔

Greenbeanmcgee · 17/12/2023 13:22

I stand by cauliflower being the best.

Fish pakora is great too.

i do like vegetable and chicken but they wouldn’t be my first choice.

Just West of London - yes, several varieties available.
I'm really longing for a haggis pakora now though, not a chance of one of those here 😪

Blueberrycreampie · 17/12/2023 13:23

No difficult to find here in SE England. As a Scot I really miss them! I do have a copy of the Shish Mahal cook book though so could make my own if I could be bothered.

whatausername · 17/12/2023 13:25

Of course! Veggie and the other one...I never pay much attention. I think it's generic meat.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 17/12/2023 13:26

Near Glasgow, Absolutely yes, chicken is my favourite, I sometimes get that and rice as a meal

I think it does and there’s a super little local store that has a fresh counter of Indian delights. Don’t know the region

BIossomtoes · 17/12/2023 13:27

Spinach pakora is the best by miles.

InefficientProcess · 17/12/2023 13:29

No takeaway round here (England) sells pakora in the way you can get it everywhere in Glasgow.

My friends and I always used to get pakora on the way home after a night out in Glasgow.

ArsenicInTheAppleTart · 17/12/2023 13:33

There used to be a great place on Woodlands Road in Glasgow that just sold pakora.

kaceylena · 17/12/2023 13:35

I live in Lancashire and basically every Indian has it here, chicken veg….

massistar · 17/12/2023 13:38

Only ever had it in Glasgow. I miss it terribly. None to be had here in south wales. Got to be chicken pakora after a night out. 😋

ReindeerSneezes · 17/12/2023 13:42

I never order them but from looking at the menu, the options are chicken, aubergine, mushroom and mixed at my local one in Thurso.

InefficientProcess · 17/12/2023 13:46

Mushroom pakora is definitely sitting near the bottom of the ranking list though.

pleasestoprainingplease · 17/12/2023 13:46

South London here and we get most varieties in all the takeaways and restaurants near us. Delicious 😋

tobee · 17/12/2023 13:49

Tangential comment, but Tesco used to sell pretty great cauliflower pakora and they haven't had any for ages! I miss it! Sad

Christmasisonitsway · 17/12/2023 13:49

Ours does, Norfolk.

Do I make them myself? Nope (sorry grandma). 😅

Aside from KL/Kathmandu, the only place I didn't see them was this "Indian" takeaway run by white people in a rural part of Ireland out of the way of the town it was technically in, where they were clearly microwaving things they'd bought in.

ANightingale · 17/12/2023 13:54

Nothing will ever beat the spinach pakora my friend's mum used to make; she used to give me a paper bag of them to take home after I'd been 'for tea' there!
