Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. Up bright & early with an alarm so I still get to sit here in silence before everyone else gets up in 5 ish. The washer's on & there's a bowl of water run for pots already so they can be done as they come down from the girls' rooms.

We're getting the 10:11 train to York for the day for a wander of the Christmas market. I think we might spend an hour at the Railway Museum too. I'm very much looking forward to it & have saved up Vinted sales money for the train fare & railcard 😊

I'm hoping to find something for my dad while we're there, and dd2 has requested a browse in Waterstones. I still remember buying my favourite book there when I was 13 ish - still have the same battered copy of it.

No idea what time we'll be in but I have about 10 rows of a crochet penis to finish when we get in so I can deliver it to work for my colleagues Mum on Monday, so I'll do that and then head to bed.

What about all of you? 🎄

I’m on my third coffee waiting for ds to stop playing computer games and do his homework 🙄. Already had pancakes for breakfast and dp has taken dd to her gym class. Off to my mum’s this afternoon to exchange presents then home for mulled wine and something Christmassy on the telly.

Love the crocheted penis 😂

Off to food festival later, then the housework and I suppose I'd better put the Christmas tree up.

Purplerain0505 · 16/12/2023 09:56

I have zero plans for the day! I’ve been up since 6 with DS and we watched a Christmas film. I just had a coffee while DH is getting up. We’re both shattered because he was up half the night unwell so I’m expecting a chilled out day at home. I was off work yesterday and got loads of housework done so I’ve not even got that to do today!

It’s lovely really, but it means I’m not sure what to do with myself. I’ll probably take DS for a walk to the shops at some point. We’ve also got some nice cheese in the fridge so I’m looking forward to that for lunch.

Bloody hell its a bit early for surprise penis.

We’re very lucky as we’re on a little (child free!) weekend away in our little lakeside allotment cottage. Here allotments are more like plots that have some crops, but mainly a nice well kept garden, with a little cottage/summer house you can stay in. It doesn’t have heating, but it has a wood burner, electricity and water. I guess its like a more livable bigger version of a beach hut, cheaper too!! I don’t think my mum expected us to run away quite so quickly when she offered to have the small people 😁

Its quite mild here, so we’re off for a walk along the lake in a bit, then we’ll either go somewhere for food, or come back and cook something quick, depending on how far we fancy walking. We’ll be watching the strictly final tonight, so we need to make sure where back for that.

Have a lovely Saturday

Good morning @lucysmam and mumsnet!
Been for my morning run with an added stop off for coffee with my running buddy which was lovely.
The house needs a once over and this afternoon I'm taking my mum for a wander round the garden centre - it has a lovely Christmas room so I need to resist spending. I need to go into town for a couple of last minute bits, but might avoid it and write the last of the Christmas cards instead.
This evening we're out for drinks at one of dh's friends' houses. I don't really know anyone so not sure if I'm looking forward to it or not.

I've cleaned upstairs (felt really good to get it done!) and the tree is finally going up this afternoon.

Still got a few presents to buy and loads to wrap but it'll get done. I'm trying to not get stressed because this week is going to be busy and awful at work (primary school). Excited children, ill children, exhausted children, a panto trip, biscuit making, Church, swimming, assembly practise... Everyone has had enough now after 8 weeks 😭.

Decafflatteplease · 16/12/2023 11:08

Morning @lucysmam and all! Thought I read it wrong with crochet penis but it appears not 😂😱

We are off to the panto today, it's an accessible performance so hopefully good 😊

Then a wander round town looking at the Christmas lights, got a few bits to pick up in town then home for takeaway tea!

Snap @ShipshapeShore in our school everyone has just had enough it's such a late finish this year!

Well I'm Up Up. Taken dog, got home, DD has decided she doesn't want to go to town with me today... She's going out with her friends instead... You'd think I'd be sad because my.little girl is growing up, but instead.. FUCK YEAH!! I'M GOING FOR LIE DOWN AND STREAM SOME RUBBISH WHOOP WHOOP.. 🤣🤣

(Edit.. I predict a Justeat in my future too.. I love my kid really, but freedom? As a single parent? It's still new and unusual..)

SydneyCarton · 16/12/2023 12:09

Back from taking the DDs (9 and 7) to football and just finished a cup of tea. Got a couple of hours before swimming lessons this afternoon so will write Christmas cards and start wrapping DPs gifts as he’s off at football with DS.

Think FiL is dropping off our Christmas tree later so we’ll decorate it and then watch a film or maybe Strictly, although we’ve not kept up with it this year. Also the ever present laundry to do <sigh>

@Silverstoat how did you get on?

@Simonjt your little cottage sounds bliss 😊

We've been in a while - I bought cheeses, and a candle to replace one that's almost gone. There were some stunning glass baubles and ornaments but the stallholders were only wrapping them in bubble wrap & I'm not sure one would have survived, had it been squished in the crowds.

Unfortunately, didn't find anything for my dad or dd2's friend 🤷‍♀️
