What happened to loose leaf tea, tea strainers and Pots?

You can't seem to buy loose leaf tea anymore . It's all TBags.

Does anyone still use it? Was it any better than tea bags?

It's so much nicer. Plus most tea bags have micro plastics in them.

Dizzywizz · 12/12/2023 21:39

I drink a lot of Jasmine and green tea, get it from local oriental shop. All of theirs is loose!

Rolypoly2961 · 12/12/2023 21:40

I have a pot of tea made in a filter teapot with loose leaf every morning. I go through phases with tea - currently Yorkshire but sometimes Early Grey

I have teapigs every day tea leaves. I order directly from teapigs

I only use loose leaf tea. Dh uses Barry's Gold Blend (we're in Ireland - it's either Barry's or Lyons tea here). I buy mine from a local guy who blends his own. They sell on line too - Solaris Botanicals (https://solarisbotanicals.com/).

I mainly make a pot of tea using a bodrum pot so I don't need a strainer. Alternatively, if I'm making a cup, I use a spoon shaped tea infuser I got in the local Polish shop.

Solaris Tea - finest quality speciality teas

Solaris Tea - Buy the finest quality organic tea online, hand blended organic tea, hand stitched teabags, loose leaf tea, matcha, tea gifts and gift set. Solaris Botanicals also offer wholesale and B2B pricing.

I use loose leaf tea. The only thing I buy in tea bags is chamomile, since I've personally never physically seen it anywhere unbagged.

I don't use a strainer, though, but just let it float!

Microplastics are why I changed initially - a superior cup of tea is a definite bonus.

A friend introduced me to Jingtea for authentic loose leaf Chinese tea.

ChoupetteTheCat · 12/12/2023 21:45

You can definitely still get loose leaf tea in Tesco, Waitrose and Asda.

DyslexicPoster · 12/12/2023 21:45

I stock up when I go near Fortnum and Mason. It lasts for ages and is the best blends. Or T2

Xiaoxiong · 12/12/2023 21:45

I just let it float, if the leaves are big like some Chinese teas. I also have a tea infuser bottle which is brilliant to take on the go.

ACAC2023 · 12/12/2023 21:46

They sell loose tea in supermarkets.
I have Waitrose English Breakfast or PG Tips loose tea, tried quite a few and they are my preferred ones.
Pretty sure you can get strainers from Amazon, Whittards & places like that. I got mine in TKMAXX. Tea tastes infinitely better than teabags

I have a strainer that sits in a cup. I only drink loose leaf tea now - earl grey in the mornings, green and oolong at work and rooibos and herbal at night! I get them online and love trying new things and rotating. It's not cheap, but I've (mostly) given up alcohol, and it's far cheaper and healthier than wine!

I started with a subscription, three teas a month and the first month came with a free metal strainer. Loved it - but I've cancelled now so that I can choose my own and just order when I run out.

Very interested to hear recommendations for tea places that sell online.

I have loads of loose teas of various types, mostly from local Asian supermarket like PP

Have also bought punjana loose tea from Dunnes and made my own teas from the garden

I have a spoon strainer, a little globe one with cat counter weight & used to have a house shaped silver one too that was too cute & DC’s friend received after admiring it

I’ve also seen one shaped like a fish (so looks like a goldfish when tea diffuses) & one with a counterweight shaped like a little person lounging on the side of the cup but had other priorities so didn’t buy <regret>

I used to subscribe to a tea related magazine (Teapot Times 😁) so maybe that’s why I have seen so many tea related items 🤣 but they are available, even just the simple spoon ones (try charity shops that accept house clearances)

WrittenInBlue · 12/12/2023 22:12

I've got an Ingenuitea pot which is amazing. Even Tesco sell loose leaf PG Tips, Sainsburys sell about 6 types including Yorkshire.

We go through bags and bags of loose tea. But we don't buy from a supermarket, we buy from tea shops. We are quite fussy what we drink.

We have a metal insert in the tea pot and also paper tea filter bags you fill yourself and then discard for another pot.

I don't like loose tea directly in the pot as the tea gets too strong after the first cup.

I agree re the tea directly in the pot. Most pots with infusers in them are not great as they are too far down in to the water. I had a brilliant one where the mesh insert to hold the leaves was a relatively shallow bowl so the tea didn't over stew. When that died, I got a Bodum Assam tea press with a stainless steel filter. You seal the leaves in to the base of the filter when it's brewed. I love it.

DilkushaKitchen · 12/12/2023 22:26

I've got three(!) For Life teapots (of various sizes) with strainers - you just take the strainer out when the tea is brewed, @OchonAgusOchonOh

I can usually find tea leaves in the supermarket, but have only seen decaff in Waitrose. I order in Suki tea after having it in a tea shop and loving it.

toastofthetown · 12/12/2023 22:28

I've converted to loose leaf tea this year. I use the Oxo tea infuser basket and it's not too much more faff than a tea bag.

This Malawi single estate tea is my favourite black tea. And their silver tips jasmine is wonderful.

DilkushaKitchen · 12/12/2023 22:29

I've got reusable silicone teabags from Lakeland too, but looks like they've been discontinued.

Yes but that's a pain. I much prefer one I can leave the strainer in without over brewing.

dottypotter · 14/12/2023 16:33

looked in Asda, there is no loose leaf tea its all bags.

cheapskatemum · 14/12/2023 17:07

I use loose leaf tea. I buy Tescos Assam tea. They sell it in my local Tesco which is small, so I'm pretty sure all branches must sell it (maybe not Tesco Express). I also love Sainsbury's Kenyan tea. It's the one in the orange box. I put a spoonful of each in the teapot & add boiling water, leave for 4 minutes & pour into 3 mugs. I can't remember where I got my tea strainer from. I drink the first mug straight away. I reheat the black tea in the other mugs using the microwave when I need another mug of tea and add milk after heating 😋. Tea is one of my greatest pleasures 😀.

Nochoiceleft · 14/12/2023 17:10

I bought loose leaf in Morrisons last week.
