... would be even better with a bit of Chambord drizzled over the top!

Chambord Liqueur – UK

My mum used to make a delicious thing in the 70s which pretty much consisted of ginger biscuits, cream and stem ginger. I might have a go at replicating it.

Oh my sister in law used to make something along those lines with chocolate chip cookies, I think it might have included sweet sherry too.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/12/2023 14:26

Oh wow @BIWI That actually looks bloody gorgeous.

@AdaColeman Yes, sherry might have been involved too, now you say that. Or maybe that weird ginger wine stuff that everybody used to have lurking in a cupboard in the 1970s?

@therealcookiemonster sorry to gatecrash but i am looking to make my first non baked cheesecake at the weekend.
Recipe calls for soft cream cheese, however Morrison's online are completely out of Philadelphia, would full fat soft cheese be a suitable alternative, even though it's not called a soft CREAM cheese?

No! I made this mistake and it’s not cream cheese it’s like dairylea.

AdaColeman · 17/12/2023 14:51

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Yes! Stones Original Green Ginger Wine, my Mother always had a bottle of it in the sideboard. We used to have a little glass of it if we got "chilled" while waiting for the train home!

Purely medicinal of course! Xmas Wink

Has anymentioned Delia's chocolate truffle torte? It's in her Xmas book. Beyond easy, freezes well, and is totally delicious. If I don't make it at Xmas there's mutiny in the family.

Member869894 · 17/12/2023 23:05

Any recommendations for best Christmas games for a household of adults and teenagers please?

We had great fun recently with Word Association (sing a song with this word in it) that the DC just pulled up on their phone.

My mum used to make something called lemon boodle. Trifle sponges broken up in a bowl. I think 3 lemons and one orange used to squeeze juice. Pour over the sponges then add whipped cream and mix to ether. Chill in fridge for an hour and serve. Absolutely delicious. Sharpness of the juice, sweetness of the trifle sponges and cream. Yum!

AdaColeman · 18/12/2023 06:57

I love that Boodle's Fool recipe, so simple! I usually do two oranges to one lemon, and add the grated orange rind and a splash of Cointreau.
Perfection! 🍊 🍋 🍊 🍋 🍊 🍋

Yes it's fab! The first time I ever had it was at my SIL's house. I thought she was being really mean with the small slice she gave me - till I tasted it, and realised just how rich it is. It's absolutely gorgeous.

Especially with clotted cream 😊

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 18/12/2023 07:32

Is Delias Chocolate Torte the one that needs glucose syrup? I seem to remember trawling many many supermarkets in search of the stuff back in the 90s. Everywhere had sold out.

BIWI · 18/12/2023 07:33

That's the one!

DPotter · 19/12/2023 19:10

Re Delia's Chocolate torte - I've used sugar melted into water in stead of glucose syrup. I usually lace the torte with rum......

stayathomer · 19/12/2023 19:12

Heard about a chocolate bomb on the radio yesterday- they said it can be made and frozen now for ce. Must get googling!!!

ApolloandDaphne · 19/12/2023 19:17

I'm making a trifle, DD1 is making a pear and ginger crumble and DD2 is making a sticky toffee pudding. I think we will have the sticky toffee on Christmas Eve. We do like a pudding in our family.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/12/2023 10:32

The Jaffa cake trifle was really good. I made it half Jaffa cake and half chocolate muffins, as ds doesn't like Jaffa cakes.

ChillyFeets · 26/12/2023 20:21

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I made it too! It's a great dessert. One question, how did you stop your Jaffa cakes from floating in the jelly?!
