I am a very happy sahm & I need to be due go dhs irregular work pattern which involves being on call /needing to leave the country at the last minute etc.. So I obviously need to be here for the dc.
I would love to set up a small enterprise to keep myself busy & for the extra income for myself. Would love some ideas & I am absolutely not in any way crafty. Non crafty ideas would be most welcome

Most small businesses which sell goods only make a net profit as a percentage of turnover of about 10%, so you'd have to have sales of £60k to achieve a gross profit of £6k, and then you'd have overheads and other expenses on top. Providing a service would be better, but is is difficult when you have lots of variable commitments that can throw your week into a cocked hat at a moment's notice.

I was self-employed for about 15 years doing the accounts for a variety of sole traders and small businesses, so it isn't as if I have no experience in the field.

Ok.

@AngeloMysterioso you were not being realistic you were generalising. My friend is a sahm, her family are landed gentry, she doesn't need to work & is very happy supporting her husband & kids.
What advice would you give her? I fully imagine her husband would be far worse off without his sahm wife. Every sahm will have a different set up just like every working mam will have a different set up too!

Your post doesn’t make any sense… your friend and her situation have no relevance, why would she be looking for my advice?

Do it!!!!!

Independence, self worth, keeping skills fresh, making money, savings, pension ...

Yes!

What to do?

There are loads out there offering free Facebook challenges, downloads, advice, etc - your email address is the price you pay for these. I learned a LOT. Lisa Johnson of That Strategy Group is a good one.

Get a notebook and write out everything:
You love to do
Are great at
Have training and qualifications in
Have succeeded in helping yourself with
Have succeeded in helping others with
Problems you've solved that others would love help with

Doesn't have to be businessy - can be home, personal development, parenting, pets, health, fashion - anything that ticks some of those first boxes.

Who can you help? What's your niche? Other SAHMs? Dog owners? Who?

What's their biggest problem? What do you know, have learned, got good at etc that could help?

What's your kit like - do you have laptop? You can do one hour 1-1 / 1-lots coaching on your subject to your audience
(A ring light and a nice mic and webcam are all good but not essential)

You're going to love this journey!

This is the most positive post I have seen on this thread , such positivity and encouragement. Your words have pushed me to do even more and I already have a couple of side hustles as a SAHM/W
😂😂😂

@AngeloMysterioso you tarred all sahm with the same brush. Many sahm also come by inheritance, could have made their fortune in their 20s through property etc, not all are relying on their husbands! Redundancy money!
You know zero about me, about what assets I may personally have, about my pension.
I came on here as I'd like to earn some extra cash for a nice holiday. Your speculation is ridiculous.

Good luck OP, and I hope you find your niche.

I honestly wouldn’t touch any MLM with a barge pole and all the work that goes into selling something really makes it not profitable.

Id agree with some of the OPs that it would be much better to offer a skill you are good at and charge an hourly rate for doing it.

Gardening/babysitting/hairdressing/virtual admin etc. Whatever career or qualifications you had before. Is there a way to use them.

NomenNudum · 08/12/2023 20:21

I would pay ££££ for someone to cone to my house and sort and declutter my kids' old toys.

Floraflower3 · 08/12/2023 20:23

What about doing a hairdressing or beauty course? Lash extensionists make a killing where I am. With any of the services you could set up a space in your house or be mobile. Then only open appointments when it suits you.

I haven’t speculated at all, I only pointed out things you said yourself. And I didn’t say a single thing about SAHMs… are you confusing me with someone else?!

It's how I learned during lockdown - I followed loads of challenges and picked up brilliant advice and tips, learned how to do Zoom 1-1s, how to to use LinkedIn.
