Fat- getting fatter and still can't stop eating

I'm coming to the conclusion that I'm defective. Literally broken. I have stood on the scales and I'm 4 stone too heavy. I've known this for ages but I can't stop eating unhealthy food. I'm literally at a loss as to what to do but I need to get my fat finger out of my ass!

Me too.

I lost 4 stone in 2020 and got really fit. Then hit an injury and couldn't exercise for a while. Starting eating again. Never got back into the exercise and gave now put it all back on.

Just can't stop and just can't get motivated.

Worse because I did it once and know what to do but every day put it off again.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 06/12/2023 21:05

Sorry for typos. On my phone.

wafflingworrier · 06/12/2023 21:14

Go to your GP and ask for help. I was very nervous about doing so but it was a very supportive conversation. She suggested lots of things and it is working so far.
It is OK to find this hard, if it was easy everyone would be slim. be kind to yourself about it, and seek help and support from a medical professional. It's the best thing I ever did.

Life would be easier if I had someone to cook healthy meals ( no excuse really) but I'm so busy working two jobs and juggling the children that as long as they're fed and watered, I just eat convenience food or McDonald's. I also don't like cooking which doesn't help but I'd enjoy it a lot more if I had time to batch cook but I simply don't.

I'm thinking of buying healthy ready meals from our butcher they are pricey but it would be a healthy hot meal in a quick and easy way.

No help but I feel the same. With me I'm sure it's tiredness, eat so much sugary stuff to keep going.

Morechocmorechoc · 06/12/2023 21:56

Me too unfortunately, it's so hard to get motivated, eso this time of year.

weechubby · 06/12/2023 22:02

Almost considering keto ? Wondering if I could get into it

I had a health scare last summer.

I cut out fats (except olive oil), most wheat (have one portion of wholewheat pasta once a fortnight and one slice of wholemeal bread a week).

All refined carbs: white rice, pasta sugar.

It means no puddings, sweets, pastries, pies, quiche, mayo, etc.

Red meat once a week

Far more fruit and veg, chicken (lean), beans and pulses.

No processed food: ham, salami, sausages, etc.

No alcohol - 0% OK

I have eaten what I want with the above restrictions. Funnily enough all aches and pains have gone, cholesterol is down to 5.6 from 7.8, all eczema has gone. The best thing that's gone is 25lb. Still a way to go. Funnily enough the hunger spikes and sugar cravings are gone.

How hard is it to pan fry (olive spray) a salmon fillet and bung it on veg stir fry or some salad or have it with asparagus?

Chicken breast, dollop of philly and a sundried Tom inside, wrap in foil and serve with some oven baked sliced potatoes (light spray of olive oil), cherry Tom's on the vine and spinach

Bean casserole: aubergine, courgette, yellow pepper, tin of tomatoes, tin of kidney beans, tin of cannelloni beans, puree, pepper, pinch of chilli. Chuck in a bag of spinach. Serve with brown rice. Does 8 meals and freezes

Turkey bol with wholewheat pasta and salad. Leftovers mixed with rice and stuff and bake some peppers.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 06/12/2023 22:14

@RosesAndHellebores

Yep I know how to do all that. I did all that and it worked. And then it didnt.

But right now I can't get the discipline going again to do it.

PermanentTemporary · 06/12/2023 22:21

Yeah it's bloody difficult.

I've only properly realised recently that I've had a BMI in the obese range (usually about 30 or 31) since I was about 26, with very short periods in the overweight range. That's just shit. The only times I have managed to kick it down is when I am traumatically bereaved, when I'm too busy to sit and eat, when I'm doing so much exercise I don't have time to eat, or when I don't keep any food in the house.

I may have money for personal training next year. Might give it a go.

morechange · 06/12/2023 22:26

It's really hard. I've been overweight all my life to varying degrees. I've lost about 4-5 stone year doing Fast 800/Keto. I found it the least hard option because after a few days (when keto kicks in) you're genuinely not hungry and the results are quick. Need some serious willpower to get started though, no options are easy or everyone would be thin... Good luck!

noooooooo · 06/12/2023 22:36

@weechubby

i know exactly where you’re coming from. Lost a lot of weight about eight years ago and was crazy fit, perfect ten, could have taught classes. Now about three stone overweight and just cannot make myself address it. I look at old photos and think ah shit, ya clown. The thought of exercising exhausts me, I just cannot begin to be arsed. Even as I eat rubbish I think ‘you’re going to have to lose this again.’ Yet scoff scoff scoff I go. There’s a switch in my head and it won’t switch on! I both care and don’t! What’s the answer 😂😕

Sausager · 06/12/2023 22:49

That does sound amazing but can you eat out? What if the kids want take out? What will you eat at Christmas?

This was to the poster with the health scare & fantastic weight loss! Quote didn't work!

arlequin · 06/12/2023 22:52

Could you do Gousto 10 minute meals and eat them over 2 days? I find it really helps with portion sizes.

Of course you can eat out. And get take-out if you choose something healthy for you. And Christmas is just a day. Eat Turkey and veg?

Nicole1111 · 07/12/2023 01:15

Read intuitive eating. Absolute game changer

GotTheTshirtx1000 · 07/12/2023 01:22

I've been doing fast 800 keto, the book is £6 the front half tells you about how it works the second half is recipes. I've lost a stone and a half saucer the start of October. The food is nice, I haven't struggled with feeling hungry or felt deprived and I haven't increased my exercise much because I have health issues. I really hope this helps.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/12/2023 01:52

@Sausager yes of course you can eat out, you just make healthy choices.

My dc are grown-up but as children, we didn't have takeaways. I have never understood why people do, aside from the expense and for rubbish food.

At Christmas we shall have turkey (v low fat), and I'll cut down on the trimmings, chocs and booze.

@weechubby regrettably only you can do anything about it.

Ridingaroundonbuses · 07/12/2023 02:24

I was much more overweight than you when I stepped on the scales and after a while of having enough and having ‘that moment’ I joined Weight Watchers. I did it purely online, bought food weighing scales and scales to measure my weight. It took a while to get used to the plan but O was able to have sweet things so long as I was eating stuf like veg. It’s worth looking in to.

PonyPals · 07/12/2023 02:37

Suffered all my life with this problem and have finally realised that it is my head. The thoughts of food are always there, it is relentless.
Have started a new medication (similar to Ozempic) and it has turned those thoughts off. Honestly it feels like a miracle!

garlictwist · 07/12/2023 06:18

I've been trying to eat more healthily for the last 2 months as I suffered a stress fracture and wondered if it might be from poor nutrition. I've stuck to it but my God it's so boring and I almost dread meals. I have no enthusiasm for healthy food (I am a sugar fiend!) and just shovel it in mechanically until it's gone. I get you with the discipline. I have it - somehow - but it makes life very dreary so I understand why it's hard to muster it up.

CornishGem1975 · 07/12/2023 06:43

It's not that hard @RosesAndHellebores but if you're someone that really enjoys food and gets enjoyment from eating it - it sounds completely joyless your way.

However there is a balance.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/12/2023 07:44

@CornishGem1975 I do love food and I also love cooking. There is nothing joyless about any of the following:

Vine tomatoes
Cucumbers
Salad leaves
Avocados
Beets
Salad dressings with exquisite oil, wine or raspberry vinegar
Almonds
Walnuts
Brazil nuts
Fruit: all the berries, melons pineapples, mangos, grapes, oranges, apples, etc
Veg: all the veg
Chicken
Turkey
Some red meat
Eggs
Lemons, herbs, spices
Gravy (whizzed with carrot and spud to thicken rather than fat and wheat)
Salmon (smoked and plain)
Mackerel
Herrings
Haddock (smoked and plain)
Trout
Low fat: cream cheese, quark, cottage cheese, etc.

What is more edifying about a steak bake, doughnut, curry takeaway or McDonalds than any of the above. How long does it take to whip up a delish Greek Salad served with grilled and marinated chicken kebab?

CornishGem1975 · 07/12/2023 07:54

I eat all that too @RosesAndHellebores what is joyless is not sitting and enjoying a piece of cake with friends or family. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

RosesAndHellebores · 07/12/2023 07:57

@CornishGem1975 you can have fruit instead of cake. What is joyless is shovelling in something you know is bad for you.
