can’t say i come across many Koreans tbh

where are you that you do?

2fast2upset · 04/12/2023 16:49

plastic surgery and tweakments are alarmingly commonplace

if you are going based on social media and Korean slebs - probably something to do with it

qwerty222 · 04/12/2023 16:50

religiously using spf and staying out of the sun.

Hubblebubble · 04/12/2023 16:51

I used to live there. No sunbathing/active precautions against tanning. That must help.

NectarinesAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 04/12/2023 19:59

I stayed out there for a while. Lots of treatments were available to those with money, but there were still the usual people with spots and bad hair, just like everywhere else.

HanSB · 04/12/2023 20:04

Korean skincare is a huge market, they are obsessed with beauty which is why plastic surgery is commonplace. They apply SPF religiously, multiple times a day and always have it in their bag but I think it comes down mostly to genetics.

Toomuchcawfee · 04/12/2023 20:04

Oh yeah I’ve seen the placenta creams! Weird. They are super in to their skin care, and take SPF very seriously.

piddocktrumperiness · 05/12/2023 07:33

@sugarandsweetener just been watching The Devils Plan on Netflix, and was admiring how clear their skin was with minimal makeup

I have seen the Korean 10-step skincare routine before. Also spf, and lots of it!

icebearforpresident · 05/12/2023 07:46

I once watched a YouTube video of an American woman trying a 15 step Korean skincare routine (no, I don’t know why). It took her 40minutes. It may work but screw that on a busy morning while trying to get myself to work and the kids to school.

Minimal makeup? On TV? Are you having a laugh?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 05/12/2023 08:41

Making sure that nobody with less than perfect skin is on TV/music/gets anything less than constant abuse if they think about going online?

piddocktrumperiness · 05/12/2023 09:11

Watch the show ladies and then come back to me. I said minimal makeup. It was a reality show/quiz game.

This.
Also applies to my Chinese Singaporean SiL and her female relatives.

cutecockerpoo12 · 05/12/2023 09:45

Just looked on you tube at some of their skin Omg it’s stunning just like glass.
I am looking forward to some tips c

squeekychicken · 05/12/2023 10:06

I think Koreans are big on skincare. When my dh travelled there he would bring me back these amazing facial sheet masks (fish eggs or fish sperm 🤣)

cutecockerpoo12 · 05/12/2023 10:17

cutecockerpoo12 · 05/12/2023 10:17

Sunblock but largely genetics. Genetically Asians have thicker skin with more collagen, which is less likely to sag or get lines and wrinkles. Koreans also move their faces much less when they speak, to pronounce their language the mouth is more static than with English, so that helps too.
So naturally good skin in terms of tone and plumpness, helped by religiously applying sunblock and using good skincare.
As a thin skinned Celt I am very envious of beautiful Koreans !

Covetthee · 05/12/2023 10:27

Think their diets play a massive part as well, generally they don’t each much processed food, and their foods are low in sugar and fat.

Plus being heavily into their skincare from a young age.

Pandapoppss · 05/12/2023 10:33

Avoiding the sun, my Father's skin was virtually unlined by the time he died aged 84, he grew up in Hong Kong and just avoided the sun totally. His hospice nurses remarked on his beautiful skin.

Being tanned denotes being a manual worker.

I wear hats in the summer and was raised to avoid being in the sun, I remember getting my first small line on my forehead, I was about 47 at the time. I studied my colleagues faces and realised that they had more lines and were 20 years younger but they were white English.
