So many Koreans have beautiful skin- what is their secret? aside from genetics?

Just that really.

Also, I mean, where are you finding all these 'Koreans'? Is it on Instagram? Tiktok? Is that not just social media?

I went to a secondary school that had a large Korean overseas student population and they definitely wouldn't have stood out as having nice skin, same with uni friends. Because they were just normal people and not using £100 skin creams like all the rest of us normal souls.

I think E.Asians in general have great skin but Koreans have special facial treatment techniques that I think are better than any others I’ve tried.

can’t say i come across many Koreans tbh

where are you that you do?

I believe that London has the largest community of Koreans outside Korea. Or second largest. Anyway, lots.

The South Korean Prime Minister visited New Malden on the state visit as so many live there.

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 05/12/2023 13:08

Back to the question, lots of hydrating treatments as that glassy dewy look only comes from super hydrated skin, copious use of spf/avoiding sun, regimented skin care routines from a very early age.
Plus genes.

Sconehenge · 05/12/2023 13:29

Big generalisation but they probably also drink less alcohol than a lot of westerners.

It does. With some fantastic Korean supermarkets.

I did the Korean 10 step for a while and my skin was amazing. Then I had kids and stopped and now it is average.

Hubblebubble · 05/12/2023 16:54

@Sconehenge awesome username! I lived there for years, they have a huge drinking culture and I'd say drink more than us. Right into old age too.

They have quite a high drinking percentage more than some European countries.

plastic surgery and facial skincare clinics, really good spf creams, lots of lotions and potions at various price ranges, I get a friend to regularly send me moisturising masks from Korea as I’ve never found anything that matches in the uk. Things like the 10 step routine and general pressure to have good skincare.

Okay lol, please disregard my comment then - skincare , SPF and genes it is!!

Hubblebubble · 05/12/2023 17:38

@Sconehenge must be :) On a booze note, if you ever find yourself in an Asian supermarket and find banana flavoured makgoli (a rice wine) I recommend.

Tulipsroses · 05/12/2023 17:45

I think one of the points why North Koreans have rough skin is the harvest which they need to participate in. Every summer on matter what your profession is you help on the farms.

Something which I think will work very well in this country.

Bananabreadandstrawberries · 05/12/2023 17:45

There is more pressure to have perfect skin in North East Asia.

Abbymom · 05/12/2023 18:13

This--exactly this. Most aging on skin is 'photo aging' from the sun's UVA/UVB rays. Koreans are serious about staying out of the sun.

piddocktrumperiness · 05/12/2023 18:16

No it's not social media. I am watching a quiz show on Netflix called The Devil's plan- you can see it for yourself; men and women have great skin on that show- v minimal makeup. The contestants live together and so you can see upfront their skin. Now a couple of the men look like they've had acne but the majority have clear skin and that is what I find intriguing.

@mindutopia and I am not sure why you put Koreans in brackets? It is a Korean show and I am asking about Koreans specifically :)

@Hubblebubble I lived and worked out there for a while too. I was in awe of how much some of the tiny women I worked with could put away.
