Slug in the house… now I’m really worried!

Someone tell me I’m being ridiculous (please)

I had a slug in my house and trapped it under a pint glass to let it outside. It wouldn’t go when I was shaking the glass so I left the glass outside for a bit until it had crawled away. Its crawled all over the inside of the glass

I just had a drink from the very same pint glass. DH thinks it was washed up with washing up liquid but isn’t sure.

Chances of rat lungworm? I know snails and slugs can harbour all sorts of nasties 😩

You have a 0.00001 per cent chance of getting anything from a washed sluggy glass.

Rat lungworm? You wanted to be told you're being ridiculous?
You're being ridiculous. HTH.

It does help. I know I’m being stupid. I’m anxious lately and need to get a handle on that. Thank you. Probably/definitely wasn’t worth a thread

I couldn't drink from that glass again, it would have gone straight in the bin! ergh!

Whu · 03/12/2023 18:52

I mean it is a theoretical possibility if the glass hadn’t been washed.
Dogs contract lungworm frequently from toys which have been left outside and had slugs and snails crawl over them.
With dogs you can give them a treatment when they have been exposed, not sure if that’s something for people!
However, the glass was properly washed and therefore you should be absolutely fine.

Kissmystarfish · 03/12/2023 18:57

You’ll be fine. It’s rained for like 4 days straight and the cold etc

RestingCatsArseFace · 03/12/2023 19:31

If you are prone to slugs, get a thin bit of plastic ready for next time. Slide it under slug, shake slug onto garden, keep plastic for next time.

You will be fine. Soak the glass in bleach and give it a good scrub - and let someone else use it, get a special glass with your name on and don't use it for slug releases.

You caught a slug in a glass and it didn’t go straight in the bin? Madness

Brought the glass in after like an hour and it wasn’t raining or anything then

I should’ve done that.

Unless you are in Australia you are probably safe

AutumnFroglets · 03/12/2023 20:38

I thought there was only the possibility of lungworm if it was infected with it and you actually ate it but I stand corrected according to google. Doesn't bode well for me considering I frequently garden without gloves Confused

You will be fine OP although I highly recommend a double shot of whisky or brandy for medicinal (and sterile) purposes 😉

Doesn’t help that I’ve read a story about a man who was paralysed after eating a slug as a dare. Tragic

Why did you catch a slug in a glass? They aren’t exactly fast moving.

I just grab some kitchen towel and pick the fuckers up to throw them out the door.

Mummymummy89 · 03/12/2023 20:50

You'll be fine.

But separately, you need to proof your house. Do you have those skirt-thingies over the bottom of your external doors? Do your windows fit well?

If slugs can get in, mice can get in.

I have had some bad mice experiences...

Not sure, I guess because that’s what I’d do with a spider. I should never have done it! Just worried we’ll be infected even though logically I know it’s a stupid worry to even have

Yep we don’t want mice! Thank you.

So you agree with a pp but I get :S and ‘are you serious’ when we’ve said the exact same thing😂 good luck!

You’ll be fine , why wouldn’t a glass be washed properly anyway ?
Anyway , pour some salt along the edge of any entry point . Doors . Windows etc
( we have an old draughty house , with slugs getting in and leaving their slimy tracks , ) the pest controller told me this tip

Hopefully there won’t be a next time , but pour some salt on the slimy git and that will make it much easier to get rid of

CountTo10 · 03/12/2023 21:46

When I was three I licked a slug. I'm now 62. I'm sure you'll be fine! 👍
