I think this is wrong, if I show you the results can anyone help? Not good news on a Friday when doctors are now closed 😞

Your results are almost all between the numbers in brackets (the "normal" range, for reference).

Grannygoldfinch · 01/12/2023 19:04

I can't see the doctors have made a mistake?

The numbers in brackets are the range that your result should be in, the number before the bracket is your actual result-
eg. your serum total protein is 67, and the normal range is 60 to 80, so not abnormal.

Chewbecca · 01/12/2023 19:11

I don't think the Dr has made an error, there are a couple out of range, therefore there is an abnormal result and you need to make an appointment to discuss.
But most of them are within range, you can see your result and the range on each individual line. The ones out of range are not particularly worrying.
The 'abnormal' doesn't mean they all are.
Don't panic.

When blood results come through to the GP they come through in a block of results so the action (in this case Abnormal) is applied to the block of results and not individual results (depending on the system the GP uses). Please don't worry they are all in range apart from ferritin which is iron stores.

Kinneddar · 01/12/2023 18:38

Theyre not all abnormal at all. What makes you think they are?

Because they say abnormal at the top of the page?

Kinneddar · 01/12/2023 19:17

Because that's what it says on the top of every page.
Result Abnormal ...Make an appointment to see a doctor.

But its not saying they're all abnormal. Just (at least) one of them is

They were all individually posted and all said abnormal. I've had blood tests before and it clearly states satisfactory when they are normal, never just listed them all as abnormal. Anyway I think we are all good. Thanks again everyone xxx

You've got too much iron and slightly high cholesterol. That's all, afaics.

The excess iron is unlikely to signify an ongoing blood problem because your platelet counts are normal. See your doctor as, if it's not diet or supplement related, it could be an early warning sign of something.

I don't suppose you've been following MN users' advice to guzzle a liquid iron supplement, by any chance??

MildlyMiserable · 01/12/2023 19:28

I have blood tests regularly, if there is an issue there is normally H or L in brackets next to the results that are flagged for follow up.
hope this offers some reassurance.

caramac04 · 01/12/2023 19:29

Mine all came back abnormal but actually all fell within normal range. There’s something wrong with how these results have been reported.
I did say to DH that if this is common then a lot of people will be worried. I have a hcp background so it was only a short lived omg until I read the results properly.

witchypaws · 01/12/2023 19:39

If they're really abnormal you know, honestly

Mine was a call in the evening when I had bloods done in the afternoon, asking where I was and to go straight to hospital
My dad had the doctor and an ambulance turn up a couple of hours after blood tests

When it's been something like low iron or vitamin D, I've had a call to make an appointment or a letter

Hijohn · 01/12/2023 19:44

I hope you are all qualified GPs? Fair enough op posted but none of you know her medical background etc. unbelievable. Op your doctor has told you to make an appointment so follow your doctor only. Hope all ok and try not to worry.

SequinsandStiIettos · 01/12/2023 20:00

Your bloods are fine apart from high cholesterol - hence the GP, they might want to put you on statins - and your iron is high; have you been taking an iron supplement?

No not taken any supplements. Not sure what this means 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't understand the iron being high. It used to be low, years ago, and I took supplements for about 6 months until it was normal again. But this was years ago, I've certainly not taken anything to increase the levels 😞

Your iron levels are high if you’re not taking iron supplements. Your cholesterol is high too - do you eat a lot of red meat?

Mirabai · 01/12/2023 20:13

Xpost.

SJP306 · 01/12/2023 20:25

It will always say Abnormal even if only one result is abnormal out of them all. I've had alot of tests this year, always only low Iron and the top of my full blood count says Abnormal x

AnnaMagnani · 01/12/2023 20:28

Mumsnet is going to be awash with posts like this as people get access to their whole medical record.

High serum iron doesn't mean your total body iron is high, it means that your body is trying to free up iron to move it around to where it's wanted.

Going with the low ferritin - the indicator of how much iron you have stored in your body, I would interpret this as you being low in iron.

Yes I must admit, I don't really enjoy having access to them. Just makes me worry.

So you don't think the high iron is anything to be worried about? Xx

TroubleInSnowland · 01/12/2023 20:36

High transferrin saturation can be an indicator of hereditary haemochromatosis which is nothing to be concerned about. Some genetic variants can cause high transferrin saturation with low ferritin. It can cause problems if left untreated but your liver looks fine from those readings.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 01/12/2023 20:40

I agree getting access to the results before the appointment just causes worry. Maybe there should be a delay and they only go up after the appointment? I mean being asked for an appointment is a massive hint the results aren’t good but it is better than scaring yourself with Google.

I’m in a similar position. Dr’s appointment on Monday but these are my results. I had extra blood tests done as my eGFR is low (55). The rest seem fine (except excess bilirubin but I always have that!).

If anyone with more experience could help me out that would be great. It is a long wait until Monday!

DewinDwl · 01/12/2023 20:48

TLDR:
OP had a blood test

Some results are outside the normal range; the vast majority are normal

Surgery contacts OP to ask her to make an appointment to discuss said results

Very interesting. Yes the whole thing is a bad idea.
