I’m really scared about a disciplinary

I posted yesterday in reference to the speeding issue I have and that I have made the decision to attend a court date and be honest with my employer about everything. I work in education. And I’ve NEVER been in trouble with the law. I was driving over the speed limit near a camera and I’ve been caught, as I work in the education sector. I’m really scared about disciplinary action etc. I’m obviously a nervous wreck. I’m scared they’ll give me a warning or that I’ll be in a lot of trouble for all of this. I don’t know what to do. I really don’t. I know I’m going to tell the truth but I’m actually very scared of what they’ll say to me. I know that what I did was stupid. But if I lose my job I lose everything

@Hammondhugh which records?

Thing is with ADHD, it makes you catastrophise and think that everything has gone to shit, you've fucked up again and are just waiting to be in trouble with everyone!

A speeding offence won't affect your job. You're not a criminal. No child is at risk from you teaching them. That mountain of shit you're imagining is actually only a little blob on the floor that's easily cleaned. It'll be okay.

I don’t understand why you have bothered to go to court
theres no dispute or mitigating circumstances that will change anything

The OP's 'moment of madness' could easily have put other people’s relatives in hospital - or else the morgue. It's only luck that they didn't. 80 in a 50 is really dangerous. And yes, I've done emergency dashes to the hospital but you can't speed like that not least because you're likely to cause a much bigger delay by having an accident en route

It could have resulted in an accident,

But it didn't.

And in life, consequences matter. If I fall asleep and crash my car into a tree nobody will care. Might get done for careless driving, probably won't.

If I fall asleep and end up crashing onto a railway line and a train goes into me, killing five people, I end up in jail (google Gary Hart).

Therefore it's irrelevant to the OP's teaching practice.

People can get sanctimonious the character of teachers if they like but it is irrelevant to the OP's ability to teach.

Losing her licence is different - that is directly relevant to her offence.

You are massively catastrophising about this.
I don’t know what to say to reassure you. All I can say is that whenever I have worried myself into a state over something, it was because I was struggling with depression.
Please be kind to yourself.

No one in the court will care what your job is, don’t even mention it unless directly asked. They definitely won’t ask what school.

Go in to court, explain why you were speeding, that you know it’s no excuse and be very apologetic.

The worst you’ll get is a 2 month ban, but based on experience I’d say you might just end up with points.

I doubt the school will care.

LIZS · 30/11/2023 16:36

Will my school name appear on the record what record, why would it?

Your legal adviser can read your contract and advise. Have you asked the court if you can still accept the penalty without going to court?

TheOtherSideOfTheStory · 30/11/2023 16:48

I do agree it's irrelevant to the OP's teaching practice @enchantedsquirrelwood - what I was responding to was the idea that any sensible employer would take the hospitalised relative into account. It's still a very stupid and very selfish reason to speed - I don't think it's a mitigation, truly. But it doesn't affect their ability or fitness to teach. However, I wouldn't know whether it comes under the 'bringing the profession into disrepute' part of teaching standards - I would doubt it, but I certainly don't know for sure.

As a teacher. I have to declare any involvement with courts.

You said on your other thread that you had a choice of 6 points or go to court. Given that you have to declare that it begs the question why you chose it.
