I’m really scared about a disciplinary

I posted yesterday in reference to the speeding issue I have and that I have made the decision to attend a court date and be honest with my employer about everything. I work in education. And I’ve NEVER been in trouble with the law. I was driving over the speed limit near a camera and I’ve been caught, as I work in the education sector. I’m really scared about disciplinary action etc. I’m obviously a nervous wreck. I’m scared they’ll give me a warning or that I’ll be in a lot of trouble for all of this. I don’t know what to do. I really don’t. I know I’m going to tell the truth but I’m actually very scared of what they’ll say to me. I know that what I did was stupid. But if I lose my job I lose everything

As driving isn't part of your responsibilities in work then I don't see the need to even tell your employer.

It's irrelevant. Employers don't normally discipline people for their behaviour outside of the workplace, unless they consider it brings the workplace into disrepute, or it's something that happened at a work-related event. I think you can put the worry to bed.

As a teacher. I have to declare any involvement with courts.

OP, no one here will be able to tell you with certainty whether you will get a disciplinary.

However, I think it's important to remember that in the grand scheme of things, this is a minor offence that occurred during an emergency situation.

You didn't hurt anyone; deal in illegal substances; defraud anyone; drink drive; abuse anyone; steal anything; etc. You traveled too fast behind an ambulance, once.

Also, it has nothing whatsoever to do with your job (e.g. you are not a driving instructor).

All I can say is this: if I were in charge of disciplinary procedure, I wouldn't discipline you. I'd just check to see if you were okay.

Speak to your union rep and get advice before you do anything.

I doubt teachers have to report every motoring offence, unless they are driving pupils/school minibuses etc.

The school aren't going to terminate your employment over a court appearance for speeding.

Please, find some way of chilling out, you're going to make yourself poorly.

It'll all be fine. You'll keep your job, and if you receive a driving ban, then just get a taxi to work and back for a few months.

But please, calm your mind now. It'll be OK.

Agapornis · 30/11/2023 01:25

You got good advice last night, why not post in that thread if there is new info?

I get the impression you're anxious in more ways than this alone. What is a normal amount of worrying for you? Maybe see your GP?

Choccolatebar · 30/11/2023 01:26

My points were never even mentioned by my employer, although I needed to drive as part of my job.

I needed to have CRB/DBS checks for my jobs and again, nothing showed up and I got offered other jobs I applied for in the NHS.

I have a sense of how you are feeling....Fear of the unknown, always feels worse at night. The more you worry, the more the cycle repeats.

I think it will be better than you think tomorrow.

For those who havent followed the OP's previous thread, she was speeding like that as she was nose to tail with an ambulance blue lighting a family member.

Not the same as being an idiotic speed demon.

As I said on the other thread...if she was nose to tail with the ambulance she'd have put them and her relative in danger too, as well as other road users.

But that's not what happened anyway.

According to the other thread I don't think they were close to nose to tail.

Well no, I didnt mean it literally as no one with half an ounce of sense would drive like that at those speeds. But I rather thought that was obvious.

AGain.....I did not mean it literally, and assumed that this would be implied.

But she wasn't following the ambulance and I highly doubt they were doing 80, as an aside.

if she had been following the ambulance with the correct gap, I'd still say she was endangering them as well others. But the whole story is getting more weird.

Choccolatebar · 30/11/2023 02:03

I agree with the others about being honest in court and honest if your employer asks.

Telling lies or not disclosing things when asked may be seen as being worse than the offense.

Good luck!

JamNittyGritty · 30/11/2023 05:43

School leader here, only way we would know this has happened is if you or the courts inform us. Courts would not inform for this as it’s not an offence that means you are a risk when working with children. Even if school (if it is a school) know, I can’t imagine ot would lead to any kind of action. I know a couple of staff in my school who have been caught speeding (not as much over the limit as you) and it’s never led to anything

Absolute nonsense

I read the last thread - No ambulance with a passenger does 80 and they weren’t directly behind.

Flyhigher · 30/11/2023 06:10

Do you live alone? You need to stay with someone while you are this anxious.

It's speeding. It's nothing. I was in court for an offence. Never told my education employer. It was fine.

Flyhigher · 30/11/2023 06:14

No way is this a disciplinary.

THisbackwithavengeance · 30/11/2023 06:17

Op you have nothing to worry about.

Hammondhugh · 30/11/2023 01:19

Then why did you choose to go to court? Why not just take the fine / points which you wouldn't have to declare?

Hammondhugh · 30/11/2023 06:31

Flyhigher · 30/11/2023 06:14

No way is this a disciplinary.

I posted it elsewhere and someone said it’s a disciplinary or they could release from employment for poor judgment which means I’m not in sound mind to safeguard children etc

I posted it elsewhere and someone said that legally it could be seen as an offence because of my poor judgement and that could link to an inability to safeguard students

It seems from one of the other threads that she was a way behind, trying to catch up. She said on one post about being focused on getting to the hospital fast.

Lovedthosechips · 30/11/2023 06:41

There is no disciplinary offence here. This is your anxiety. You would be more relaxed if you worked in recruitment and saw what some teachers have done - this is a non issue. Take care OP and be generous to yourself like you would be to someone else.

I have no answers. All I can tell you is that one person amongst a sea of people telling you the opposite is incredibly likely to be wrong.
