Going to a concert, standing tickets, but my feet hurt!

As the title states, I'm going to a gig next week, we bought standing tickets ages ago, but my feet have been more and more painful recently and I'm not sure how to survive the night. I have fibromyalgia, it hasn't been too bad recently, but is flaring up a bit now, maybe due to the cold.

Any suggestions for how to protect my feet? Recommendations for some really good trainers/footwear or insoles? I don't drink, so will probably take painkillers beforehand.

No seated tickets available to swap for and dp is really looking forward to the gig, as am I.

Any suggestions welcome!

Have you contacted the venue and explained that you have a disability and need to be seated? Might be worth a call to see what they can suggest.

I hadn't thought about that. I hate making a fuss about it when I'm ok some of the time. Dp will want to be standing though and I'd like to be with him.

Get some gel inserts and wear almost flat (but not absolutely flat) shoes. Move about frequently so the blood doesn’t pool in your legs.

I Google the set list for the night. Go to the bar for a drink and a break for any songs we don't like or when they are doing 'songs from our new album'

Sidebeforeself · 30/11/2023 07:12

@Lovely1975 Your user name is a bit of a misnomer isn’t it? Did you not see the OP has a health issue?

chorusline79 · 30/11/2023 07:20

@Lovely1975 yes I think you need a name change?!
If you've nothing nice to say and all that...
Sorry you are struggling OP. Defs might be worth speaking to the venue if you are going to potentially be in pain all eve instead.

Mumof1andacat · 30/11/2023 07:22

Gel inserts or something like sketchers trainers would be comfortable

Tighginn · 30/11/2023 07:24

It's the wall of death you need to be worrying about!

dontforgetme · 30/11/2023 07:28

Op I would stay near the back, so you can lean on the wall if needed.
Which gig are you going too?
Is it worth giving them a call and arranging a wheelchair to be available if needed? I know my friend who suffers with this sometimes does the same.
Comfy trainers, gel inserts, can you make your car/a taxi without much walking after the gig?

Ostryga · 30/11/2023 07:30

You can sit down at standing gigs! I do it all the time, just go near the back and get your husband to stand behind you so you don’t get squashed.

Wear Sketchers arch fit trainers with an insole. I have horrendous tendonitis in my feet and these are the only thing that help.

CesareBorgia · 30/11/2023 07:33

Would taking a walking stick to lean on help at all? It might also signal that you need consideration from surrounding people.

Are you planning to be a dick all day or have you now got it out of your system?

theduchessofspork · 30/11/2023 07:37

Trainers

You can probably sit down at at the back, and call in advance to see if there might be a seat you can swap to

icebearforpresident · 30/11/2023 07:38

I wouldn’t during the gig but once I arrive and the support act are on I usually sit at the back on the floor then move forward before the band. I don’t like being right down the front at gigs and never had any problem getting a spot with a view and a bit of room around me and usually it’s early enough that the floor isn't sticky (but I wouldn’t wear my best trousers either!)

Uncalled for

coffeetofunction · 30/11/2023 07:47

Do you have any platform converse? They are great. I also suffer with pain and can understand still wanting to do normal things. Is it possible to get right to the front? Or along the side? There are often rails that you can lean on to help take your weight.
You can sit until the acts start and tbh in these situations I sit during breaks or when needed. Generally people around are very understanding and will help to protect you from the crowd and to get up and down. Take pain relief before and during. Wear good comfortable socks. Also try to rest the day before and without doubt the day after. If you use the pace technique then use it.

Remember to be kind to yourself, being in pain is exhausting and when people can't see it they don't understand but it is very real. I hope you have an amazing experience

😂😂😂

OldTinHat · 30/11/2023 08:40

I'm another one voting for standing at the back. I have disabilities and use a stick and find the back easier to sit on the floor and not get trampled on if necessary.

alloalloo · 30/11/2023 10:15

Thank you for all the suggestions everyone. My trainers are getting on a bit so I'll look into the sketchers. Converse are too flat for me, no support so I can't wear them these days.

Unfortunately the support band are great too so I don't want to miss that! 😂

Staying near the bank is a good idea. I can't sit on the floor really, I wouldn't be able to get back up again, but leaning against the wall is a good idea. I don't like the thought of a wheelchair, hate drawing attention towards myself, will go down the comfy trainers and plenty of painkillers route and see how it goes.

I have an arthritic knee which plays up unpredictably and a liking for standing at gigs. When the two things coincide I usually find the enjoyment of the gig takes my mind off the pain until after/the next day...
Getting to transport at the end is often the worst bit.

I'm not sure it will but I'm glad it does for you 😊

I ordered Arch Fit Skechers but looks like they won't get here in time as they don't offer express delivery 🙁 I had a 20% off discount so I'll lose that if I cancel. Could go to Pavers tomorrow, but doubt they'll have them in stock and like I said I won't get money off them. I've emailed Skechers, asking if they can post them urgently but haven't had a reply and it says they could take up to three days to reply online.

Have a look at Flitflops or Hoka trainers @alloalloo theyre both really comfortable with great arch support.

Growingoutthegrey · 30/11/2023 18:29

I've seen some chairs that literally fold into a frisbee shape. So you could have it there for when you need it, keep it in a backpack when you're standing.

Telescopic stools, available at b&q and Amazon etc
